Your children are not your own.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
for they have their own thoughts.
You amy house their bodies but not their souls,
for their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and he bends you with his might that his arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the Archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so he loves the boe that is stable.

Khalil Giban.

Put this poetry into cultural, religious, national, raciel, sexual...and all social perspectives.....

Do you find it too radical a view??????????

I am very interested in your comments...please!

Typo...Khalil Gibran.

I wonder if Khalil Gibran took genetics into view :).

To a great extent he is right but sadly, in our cultural context, his poem does not apply to the many sons begot by the mothers.

Just like as I always say. You can give your potted flowers water, probably some plant food and see if there are any unwanted elements and remove and sit back and watch grow and even flower! You can take care of those plants but you *cannot* put flowers on them by yourself. That flower *has* to grow from itself.

You can nurture your children and give them love and sit back and watch.

And suna is so right. The apron strings are too long of Nepali mothers or is it the hand of the sons too willing to reach that string? I have not figured that out. Not yet.

NK, if you like Khalil Gibran, you'll love Pablo Neruda (thanks Nuru for introducing me to Neruda). I’m sure you’ll appreciate Neruda's unique and liquid-like style of poetry and agree with me when I say his poems are an intoxicating experience. Here's just a tiny sampling of Neruda's work:

The Well
By Pablo Neruda

At times you sink, you fall
into your hole of silence,
into your abyss of proud anger,
and you can scarcely
return, still bearing remnants
of what you found
in the depth of your existence.

Opps! For some odd reason, I thought NK started this thread. Apologies. But Sitara, my posting above should apply to you too.

>Do you find it too radical a view??????????

not at all. in fact, it's become so mundane as to be a hallmark greeting card sentiment. now, try twisting it to "your life is not your own"--now, THAT'S what i would call a revolutionary view. still, i will not give up using the first person possessive...will you?

ummmmmmmm! hi to Sitara and frens:)
STILL MEDITATING......
RELIGION:i am a tree rooted deep in the soil of tradition and whose branches grow in the power of continuity.

SPIRITUALITY:i am a cloud moving in the space. It turns into drops which, as they fall, form a brook that sings its way into the sea. Then it rises as vapour into the sky.

RELIGION: i am a fortress that neither gale nor the lightning can shake.
My thought is a tender leaf that sways in every direction and finds pleasure in its swaying.

SPIRITUALITY:i am a tender leaf that sways in every direction and finds pleasure in its swaying.

RELIGION:well i overheard that" i am an ancient dogma that cannot change me nor can i change it".

SPIRITUALITY: i am synonomous to life, every life is unique, life is fresh, its new, it tests me and......
I test it morn and eve.........
