... Well, I just did a search. It did not work for me. I was not able to locate this particular parliamentarian's phone number.
Orion Posted on 30-Aug-02 11:36 PM

Perhaps calling 977.1.197 or simply 977.197 might work?
paramendra Posted on 30-Aug-02 11:50 PM

Thanks Orion.

Well, I got hold of the DSP office phone number in Kathmandu. Listed as an Emergency phone number at NepalHomepage.com. Called there. And got Hridayesh Tripathy's phone number from there. So it worked out.

I called. Immediate security has been provided. Shobha Tripathy has been hospitalized.

This act can be compared to Dr. Martin Luther King's home getting vandalized. This has to be widely condemned.

Mr. paramendra,

What the heck..... You called the DSP of Kathmandu to get hold of some sucker minister or something?

You sure know how to misuse political power man. Just some high talk and the ppl at DSP's place must have submitted it to you. Other wise the police don't even talk to junta properly and listen to their legitimate requests.

What I don't understand is that - "When you could just dial 917 why did u have to call the DSP office." To show to ppl that you can get things done by hanky and panky?

Satya:

I hope this thread does not balloon out of proportion.

(1) The incident at Tripathy's residence. I hope you have read about it. Well, I felt the need to call Hridayeshji. His wife is hospitalized for chrissake. The incident is like a vandal act at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s house. Tripathy is more a civil rights leader than a former Minister to me.

(2) I checked my e-mail account to see if I had saved his phone number. I called a journalist friend in DC (classmate, fresh from Nepal). I wrote to the editor of People's Review. I posted this thread at Sajha. I followed the lead provided by the first response here. Nothing worked.

(3) So I looked up a public number at the site. I also called the Lion's Club, but noone picked up the phone there.

(4) I was just trying to have someone in Kathmandu look up the local phone book.

Calling the DSP office for is not a misuse of political power. The police officers are public servants. And all I asked for was a phone number. And I introduced myself as "a Nepali in America." The officer had me call a few minutes later and he had got the number looked up by then. I thanked him. And that is it.

"Other wise the police don't even talk to junta properly and listen to their legitimate requests."

What they did for me was great. What you are pointing out: that, if is the case, ought to change.

What is that 917 option? Please educate. I tried calling 977-1-197 for directory assistance. But it did not work. I'd have preferred that option.

Look, dude, I had the option between callign some hospital or calling the DSP office and I opted for the latter.

Bam:

Tripathy is a public figure. And hence perhaps the comments. Is it your way of expressig your dislike for him? Or do you have any substantiation to offer?
