Okay..now that I have heard alot about munchahouse online, i thought that a splendor would be a good surprise gift for my dad...but then i figure out the price quoted there is 1,01,580 NRs. I called up my friend back home and asked him to find the dealer price. he figured it was around 85-90,000NRs.
I was surprised that these online stores rip off Non resident nepalese like anything. making 15,000NRs just by selling one item? Damn..i was almost gonna waste my hard earned 200 dollars !

Well Wisher,
I think these Nepali online stores are doing a good job. If you consider the amount of time required to get these things accomplished then you might appreciate the fact that it requires time to get all of these things done.

Like for the motorbike, it takes time for them to go to the store to get the motorbike. Get all the paperwork done. It takes time to deliver. They need to pay the people who will do the work. They need to pay to set up these things. I mean a lot of things are involved. Even if you only consider the hours involved in delivering the moterbike, it could be upto 10 hours time. If you consider a professional person spending 10 hours at $15 an hour, the cost itself would be 150 dollars. But you think it's absurd to pay that much money since it's done in nepal. If you are living in the US and making dollars and expecting American kind of service, you should be able to pay American style. Otherwise don't bother shopping online at all.

Will someone please educate me here? What is this about? Nepali online stores?

Which are the prominent Nepali online stores? What do they offer? Do they do money transfer? How well have they been doing? Are there some superstar entrepreneurs on the scene?

Any insiders to shed light?

Well-wisher,

the price varies in real world price tag and internet tag. The price variation
is about 20 percentages, and I don't think its bad. Its bad only if Munchahouse
says to $1200. and charges your credit card Rs. 130,000. In Internet shopping
what shoppers need to understand is the HIDDEN COSTS. They should not look
only at the price tag in internet shopping website. Try to drill the quality of
material, guarantee of the quality (show piece and sold piece might be completely
different), and cost related to delivery. If you have dirlled everything,
the page before you supplied your credit card has less than the card charged,
you can claim your reimbursement from credit card company, therefore, you
should keep the records. Still you can claim it, and if Munchahouse is found
fabricating the price more than you were told at the time of purchase, the
Munchahouse will liable to punishments. YOu can claim it within 3 months,
but, better is immediately after you got your credit card statements. I know
when I was in LA last year, and paid the one day tour to a clerk of the
tour company, the lady abondoned a machine that was processing the card,
but, delayed very much, and she moved to another. thus, I was charged
twice, and I asked her. She told don't worry, its already cancelled. But,
I got statemetns with double payements. It took three months to get my
money back, of course, they withdrew money from my bank at first, but,
I got it back.

In internet shopping you must confirm:

1. the type of company, you are dealing. Check browser whether it
has security mark or not.
2. how many peoples you know have ever purchased things from the
company, and their experience. YOu can even check news papers,
how the company is reviewed (local news papers). Use google.
Listen to experience: plus and -ve pts . of the site.

3. total price tag + basic service charge (surcharge 1) + delivery cost surcharge
+ confirmation charge + additional guarantee charge + finally tax.

4. MArket survey: rival companies should also be surveyed. Remember if the
service is only offered at Munchahouse.com, no where else, then, they might
use the monopoly in this item, to cover the cost in other items that their rivals
also offer. And, they offer the other items in cheaper prices.

Specially, branded goods these days have "OPEN PRICE" policy. Thus, the
makers expected price is not open to public. It happens now in Japan that
all most all SONY items are OPEN PRICED. Thus you buy it in MITSUKOSHI
store, its 100 unit, while you buy the same thing in a smaller outlet store,
its probably 80units. Thus, manufacturer give freedom to shops. Well,
the outlet store keeps very small profit margin, but, big stores like M.
will keep big margin. But, Mitsukoshi will probably not sale a goods kept
in show case for long time, i.e. last piece, because its scratched ....
touched by others .... thus, their target is for ELITEs who don't care
price, but, care the quality. Thus, M. store guarantees quality,
but, the outlet store may not have even spare piece to make you satisfied
with color selection. So, those who buy goods in M. Store will have
high pride (dekhabati nai sahi) than retail store, when they are in
social gathering. M. Store also has more legal responsibility than a retail
store, because they are more liable to punishments if their item has
lower quality, thus, have more hidden costs before they sell you the
items. Because retailer will not dedserve bigger punishments compared
to M. store for any mistakes. Thats, why McDonald has to pay
$ 600,000 for not writing 'ITS HOT be very careful' to the old woman
who got 180deg hot coffiee. Thus, if Munchahouse makes mistake, probably
its loss in biz. is more than a small company, thus, they have to make
sure (several checks) that their service is perfectly enjoyed by the
shoppers. So, the variance of their mistake is very small. And therefore,
peoples who are very careful of cost, should not go for brand name
or branded stores. When you go to branded item/branded store, you
must pay higher. But, they can not cheat you showing one price in your
receipt, and one price to credit card company. Thats cheating, and
I am sure branded companies don't do such mistakes deliberately.
I am sure Munchahouse.com must have avoided such mistakes and if it
really happend despite of their effort, its the responsibiilty of shoppers to
inform honestly and get refund.
