What do these "comrades" want? http://asia.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2002/nepal.maoists/ What does "our government" want? http://www.nepalnews.com.np/today/frontpic/2002/sept/sep03aa.jpg (nepalnews.com photo) Kathmandu Wednesday September 04, 2002 Bhadra 19, 2059. (The Rising Nepal) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No emergency during elections Deuba rejects talks with Maoists By A Staff Reporter KATHMANDU, Sept. 3: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said that he would consult with all those concerned, including the political parties, to see if the State of Emergency needs to be extended. Premier Deuba, who returned here after his nine-day visit of Europe, confirmed that there would be no emergency during the general elections slated for November 13th. "I will discuss the matter with all those concerned and scrutinise the present situation to see whether the emergency needs to be reimposed," he told the media at the VVIP Lounge of Tribhuwan International Airport. and what do "we" want? http://207.36.165.22/photo-fet/Lisne_attack/2.jpg Who is doing what? Whom do we or should we trust? Who is more nervous? The government, Maosists, or us? I think it's us who is the most nervous among the above mentioned three groups. Maoists are , no doubt, nervous but the government is more nervous than the Maoists. Maoists are free, at least it appears that way, for random attacks on people and infrastructures. We are mukdarsak, and govt. is a reflection of "magante mahanta". Since the "common people" are the most nerveous and vulnerable one they are going to suffer more in this chaotic situation of Nepal. Unless, we common people find a way to interfere directly, the situation won't be solved. Maoists are going to be more and more violent as the election day approches nearer and nearer. More casualties. More Nepalis will die. It's quite easy for a "commander" to give a gun to his "follower" but it's extremely difficult for him/her to take it back. Why would a comrade go back to toil on rough terrain when he/she is getting more with a gun? Comrades' source of power does not spring from Mao, Prachanda, Badal or BRB but does from the guns or the bombs they carry around with them. So, it's the fear not the logic that they are familiar with. Election will not solve Maoist issue neither will negotiation with Prachanda or Baburam or even Baadal. If Prachanda/Baadal or BRB agree to peace there will be other Prachanda, Baadal or BRB who won't. Like I said it's easier and more profitable to carry a gun then juwa or halo. Most people are like water, love to flow where it's easier to flow.

http://www.nepalnews.com.np/ntimes/issue104/analysis.htm The latest statement by Maoist Chairman Prachanda tells us three noteworthy things: • If the government is willing to sit down and resume talks, the Maoists are also ready to come back to the table anywhere, anytime. • They also appear willing to consider taking part in elections, provided there are provisions for an interim government, and on mutually agreeable election procedures. • The Maoists are ready to forge a working partnership with all “pro-people” forces against retrogression for the complete democratisation of the Nepali polity, and to join the political mainstream. (Taken from Nepali times. Link above). Prachanda is scared with Baadal. He-Prachanda-can't do what he thinks he can. He is not who he claims he is.
