I asked my Foreign Student Advisor about renewing the F1 visa. He told me that when you are in the US, you don't need to renew it. You only are required to maintain your valid I-20. You renew or get a new F1 visa when you are out of the country. Visa is for checking during the entrance to US. I along with my other friends, haven't renewed the visa. But I have heard few people going to Mexico to renew it, 2 years back.

Friends, Yes, as long as u r taking classes in school with 12 hours per semester then u don't have to renew your F-1 visa. Only if you like to go out of country then u might need to get visa to enter US but you can get that F-1 multiple visa from Nepal, Canada, and Mexico. Remember do not fotgot to renew your I-20 coz something it may happens if you don't came about date. Thanks......... Sagun

I am sure you might have gotten the I 94 card when you first entered US. In I 94 they give you a status called DS which means duration of stay. so as long as you are in US and maintain your student staus you do not need to renew any kind of visa :)

Hey Guys Let me tell you something. Do not count on getting the F 1 visas from foreign border posts like border cities of Mexico or Canada. There has been a change and you cn only get the visa from your native country from now on. You can check that online and get informed before you leave the US. If you leave the US for any other country you have to go to Nepal in order to get the Visa to re enter the US. thats the new law. Bye A guy
