The mighty US basketball team star studded with NBA stars are out of medal contention..let aside Gold medal (which they so frequently talked about after the first beating they suffered at the hands of the Argentine. I totally think it's about time, and perhaps the right time to stop referring to the NBA Champions as the WORLD CHAMPION I use to defend ...use to feel it's quite right to call them the world champs...not anymore , i think from now on...NBA Champs..should be just NBA CHAMPS

They didn't play good, but you cannot deduce from this loss that US is not a powerhouse of Basketball anymore. This wasn't the best team they could come up with, did you see Shaq? Kobe? or even Tmac? Carter? Kidd? etc? I don't think they call the NBA champs, the world champs..the way they do in Baseball, Footbal etc. If they do, I agree with you..they shouldn't call themselves the world champs, by merely winning their national turf. It sure was a humbling experience for the US team and now they will start taking these stuffs more seriously.

DWI Hehe!......... They got nuked ..big time!!! Perhaps they were not riding on the waves of Patriotism!!! ;) Here is the concept of being "best in the world"....."It is not about being compared against other states within one country!!" Perhaps, "International" will be more locally understood! sorry!! can't help laughing gleefully :P

DWI bro, forgot to add one thing.. this is world basketball championships and not NBA championships..so even if shaq and the rest were there, they wouldn't always get calls on their favor from the referees like in the NBA :).........THERE IS USA AND REST OF THE WORLD>..i am sure there are far more dedicated and real good players around the world than in USA :) and this tourney jus proves that :).... NOt that i don't enjoy NBA ;) i am infact absolutely crazyyyyy in every sense bout lakers ;) but this is FAR TOO LAUGHABLE K :) i really feel good bout myself :) oys

Sitara and Oys, There is some level of satisfaction on seeing US loose the tournament. The way I felt US shouldn't win the World cup, even though I was always rooting for them. They don't take the 'World' seriously and thus they do deserve to loose. But I do feel bad for them, after they loose. But I seriously think that US could have won if they had their best of the players marching in. They lost to Ugoslavia by 3 points and to Argentina by 7. I think that could have been avoided if the real dream team was there. But hey, no ifs and buts..they lost..plain and simple. It definately proves that US shouldn't feel confident about their position anymore. I think they still are the World champs, but their competitions aren't far below.
