Widowed within 24 hours of marriage

Bhiman, September 9, Who would ever have imagined that she would become a widow and have to wipe the vermillion off her head even without once being embraced by her husband.
However, this is exactly what has happened. There was a sudden twist in the life of Samita Karki, 19, of Bahuntiplung VDC. It was indeed a shattering experience for her. All her dreams of living happily ever after were gone within 24 hours of her marriage.
Her husband police jawan Kaji Raut died when the Maoists stormed the Bhiman police station in Kamalamai municipality. As a consequence she was forced to wear white clothes on the day after her marriage. “What will happen to me? How will I live?” she said.
Haritalika Tij, the biggest festival of Hindu women is being celebrated across the country today. However, Samita’s desire to wear red clothes and pray for the peace, progress, prosperity and long life of her husband was snatched away.
After leaving his dear bride at the house of his sister, Kaji went to work but unfortunately, he left this world for good. His sister says, “My brother attained martyrdom while fighting for the country. But what will happen to his young bride?”
Samita is not the only woman to face this kind of ordeal. Police sergeant Pashupati Mandal of Lahan Goginpur working at Bhiman for the last six months also bid adieu to this world.
The Maoists attacked on Saturday night. He had already been transferred to Morang. He was to go to the district headquarters on Sunday to receive his transfer order. He left behind his wife Pramila Devi, 26, two young sons and a daughter of tender age when he died in the encounter with terrorists.
With a son in her lap, Pramila wailed next to the body of her husband. “My lord” she cried, “where have you gone leaving us behind? You said that all of us would go together after a while.” A group of women consoled her. Urmila Bhing, 24, wife of police sergeant Amrit Singh is in the eighth month of her pregnancy but her husband also attained martyrdom. The child, when born, will be deprived of the love of its father. She wonders how she will bring up the child that is now in her womb. Many women became widows just a couple of days before the festival of Teej.
“We don’t know when the memory of that fateful night will fade away. Who could derive pleasure in hearing the gunshots and the bursting of explosives especially in the night,” said Chandeshwar, a local.
According to the District Administration Office, a massive manhunt has been launched to apprehend the terrorists involved in the carnage while the body of a culprit was found during the search operation this morning.

Maoist have made a peace loving people's life a hell to live. Those the so called leaders are totally out of touch of situation in Nepal as well as the World and taking advantage of illiterate, poor young minds.Samita karki is a direct victim of their brutality but one should not forget that the killings of Maoist cadres by the security personals is largely to blame those leaders Prachada etc. who have brain washed these young minds and have made them victims of their personal ambitions.
