Discovering the joys of motion….

They called it the dance of the heavenly bodies. A cosmic dance, that only Newton could explain. …The laws of the universe applicable to all and sundry!!!!!!!!

And yet,

In my personal universe, I had forgotten the joys of motion, of beat, tempo, rhythm; ..of dance…in keeping with the music. Music: soothing, slow at first, picking pace as it races through my pulse, steadily rising…heady, and intoxicating. as I close my eyes and breathe deeply; music was to my soul as motion is to my body!!!!!!! Yet, I had erased from my memory the joys of free will, of deliberate action, of moving to the beat to match the rhythm,… in my being…. Of moving my hands…. to the pulsating drums…… of swaying my hips…. to the sound of the flute….. of moving my lips…. to the joyful lyrics!…Nobody, could understand why the music had died, the body had stopped , the life had ebbed…none could diagnose, the joyless motion of dragging feet, of paceless living,.. of a tuneless hum, …None could predict the pause in mid air, the halt in mid song….. of a humdrum existence on the brink of annihilation…..

And then,

I saw the little girl dragging herself by her arms, her motion erratic, her arms flailing, her movements stilted as she groped around for her way. She was sightless, born blind, with lifeless legs, with slurred speech, she crawled into my classroom, as I watched in awe …. SHE had discovered the joys of motion in her awkward pace, her unwavering faith in her sightless eyes, …..the joys of living which brightened her smile when she entered the room, that one dismal morning.

And when she left , I Re-discovered the joys of motion …of Newtons laws …of the heavenly bodies,….of the secret of living with what you have…when you don’t have much!!!!!

Written for Elizabeth (the blind girl suffering from septo optic dysplasia) in my class.

Wow, that was moving... Could you please tell us a bit more about yourself? Understood that you teach the speech impaired...but sre you an undergrad/grad student? Or have you already graduated? You sound too intelligent. If you're willing to sell your egg, I'll happily buy it for $5000.

Bravo Sitara,

Bewildered, bemused and bewitched by your eloquent narration. Souns more like poetry. Girl, you've got a knack for words that can conjure images and feelings that a very few are able to do so. Gosh, I'm so envious!!!
SOULFREE Posted on 24-Sep-02 05:47 AM

nice!!!
Suna Posted on 24-Sep-02 06:53 AM

Mesmerizing!

Hope Elizabeth got to hear it!

Suna Posted on 24-Sep-02 08:12 AM

was I??
OH OH
Didn't mean to be at all!!!
Excuse my ignorance of medical terms then. I presumed since she was blind, at least she could hear!
SITARA Posted on 24-Sep-02 08:14 AM

Oys ji, wit's end ji, Surya, Nepe ji, Dirk ji, SOULFREE ji, Suna;

Thank you! Just to look at the "brighter" side of the moon!!!...

Anepalikt; Life can be harsh, if we perceive it that way!

Bhedo ji; I am a student of life (...ever since I was born :). As for the "perceived intelligence", it is more a byproduct of experience. So, how can I sell you my egg devoid of any eggsperience????? It would be pure scam if I even laid a pinky on your $5000.00
But thank your for the offer and your kind/creative thoughts! :)
SITARA Posted on 24-Sep-02 08:16 AM

typo: thanks for your offer!
anepalikt Posted on 24-Sep-02 08:24 AM

Some things are not perception, Sitara. Some things are what they are.

Besides, that was a comment not on life in general... and it was HEARD by the party intended:) hehe
Suna Posted on 24-Sep-02 09:08 AM

hmm okay, since I work with docs of different kinds everyday of the week. I asked them and they confirmed that people suffering from septo optic dysplasia can, indeed, hear.

You're right anepalikt, some things are what they are.

I still hope she got to hear what you've written in her "honor" Sitara :). It would be a tremendous upliftment for her.
:)

could there be a 'sitara's column' in the near future?
Rusty Posted on 24-Sep-02 10:28 AM

Sitara Ji,
I don’t know how to describe this wonderful writing. I am reminiscing the joyful life I had in the past and the joyless life I have now.

But, your writing certainly inspired me to re-discover the same joy of motion that was remainning still for long time in my life.

Suivez votre bon travail!! :)

Oys...
SODIUM AZIDE !!! Do you want to live for couple of more years?;)
