It was around 10:20 AM. Still had at least one and half-hour before the show. We were just lingering there. I had to go to kamal pokhari to meet someone right at the chowk –in front of that pharmacy. So, I asked Rabi to come with me. He said, “ma ta paye ghar janthe…tara feri dhilo hunchha hola..” we were walking towards kumari than. Just then Rabi spotted a tole dai on his motorbike when he looked back. As soon as the motorbike approached us, he said, “dai ghar jana la ho? Malai ni lagdinuna..” Tole dai agreed. “la paune barha baje yahi bhetne hai” bhandai Rabi left. I went to kamal pokhari. The person whom I supposed to meet didn’t come. I waited and waited. I looked at my watch and it was already 11:45. So, I just walked back to the hall. It was a house full show. Hall was very crowded. I tried to spot Rabi. I looked for him all over the place. I couldn’t see him. Then I went to collect my ticket. Ticket seller dai told me that just a few minutes ago, Rabi collected his two tickets. I was walking around to see Rabi. Just then someone cought my shirt and I heard, “Deep dai, malai ni chhirai dinu na”. I looked at the dude. It was a kid from our tole. “nakara…” I said with jharko then kept looking for Rabi. That kid was following me everywhere and kept saying, “dai…chiraidinuna…dai…”. I got mad, “talai lat khana man lagyo?….kich kich nagar bhanya haina?” I said with some anger. He looked at me. Kept quiet for 10 seconds then said, “deep dai …chhirai dinu na”. Since that kid was also from the same tole, I asked him, “taile Rabi lai dekhis?”. “Rabi dai ta ek chhin bho chhirnu bho”, he said. Well, what’s the point of looking for him here then, I thought. Kina nakurya ho…ris pani uthyo.

I headed towards the gate and that kid followed me. I asked the kid, “bhitra kaha baschhas ni?” he replied with a smile, “tapai chhirai mattai dinu na…ma milera basi halchhu ni…” I didn’t want to share my seat or actually arms rest with this kid. So, I told him, don’t even think about sitting with me. He agreed. So, I took him inside the theater. “Dhumrapan manahi chha” aaisakya re chha. It was dark. bhitra chhire pachhi jaha bhe ni baschhu bhanne bhate ta jhan po mero hat samatchha. Light man came and checked my ticket and showed me an empty seat. There I thought I saw Rabi. “ja mu**, kaha janchhas ta aba” I ordered the kid. He didn’t care and followed me. I went to my seat bangidai bangidai. That kid followed me to my seat. Nabhandai ho re chha…Rabi nai re chha basirako. I had a bhitta ko seat. That kid took his seat on my right arm’s rest. I sat on my seat. I asked the kid to go away. He said, “yasto adhyaro chha…ahile half tyam ma janchhu….kich kich nagarnu na dai..:” Ris uthera aayo but I did not say anything to him. There was another person between Rabi and I. I didn’t know he was. Ko sathi lyayo, I was wondering. That kid was blocking my right side view. So, I asked Rabi pachhadi bata yaso tankiyera, “ko mu** yo? Kaslai lyayis……yo mu** lai oota basna bhanna…ta ra ma sangai basam..” Rabi didn’t respond. I called on him, “ye mu**ye…ko ho yo..huh Rabi?” Rabi just looked at me and raised his right index finger and place the finger vertically at the center of his lips but did not say anything. I was already irritated and his gesture to “keep quiet” just provoked me more. I raised my voice and asked with anger again, “ko ho yo ma@#$%^? “. Rabi stretched his left and hit me on my head then said, “chup lag….kasto……aaja baa aaunu bha chha kya….”

“Tikas kinna jane hain ta?” Rabindra asked me. “Jaanai paryo ni”, I answered. Rabindra (Rabi) and I were walking down the Mahabhut. Weather was pleasant. It was around 9:30 AM. We headed towards Kumari hall. Crossed the street and paused before entering Ratna park. Right at that stinky entrance a guy was running a game business. There was this key you had to take from one end to the other without touching a naked copper wire running thru the keyhole. The prize was a national Panasonic radio. I looked at Rabi. “haath ka balance” the dude running the game spoke and demonstrated his skill. He, without much effort, carried the key from one end to other (the distance was about 3 feet, I guess) without touching the wire. The game looked pretty simple to me. I paid one rupee and tried. Ek bitta puryauda napuryaudai chhoyechha sancho le taar ma “tyaaaannnt’ garera karayo. I tried with couple of more rupees but couldn’t take the key any further than a feet.
“ta mu** yai sanchai kudai ra ni ki cinema ni herni?”, Rabi asked.

Walked through the park walkway. A Lot of people were in the park. Gham tapne. badam, suntala …. bechne ra khaneko ghuicho thiyo. Chatake was also busy gathering crowds to sell some manjan and other stuff. Came out of the park in front of bijuli office. Crossed the street and followed that galli between sabha griha and bus park to come to putali sadak via adwait sanstha and Sankardev campus. Turned left on ram shah path (?) then walked on towards kamaladi. We took slight right on another galli after passing a house owned by princess shova shahi. After walking just about a couple of minutes we were at Kumari hall.

It was a hit movie and the movie hall complex was really crowded. There were long lines for tikets for each class, thar klas, sekan klass, fas klass, espesal, balkoni, and deskal. Tiket ko jhyal kholekai thiyena the line was swinging and many people in line were asking others not to push. Tiket bechnu aghi nai kuta kut parla jasto thyo. There was this guy from our tole who used to sell tickets there. So, we tried to locate him. After a few minutes we got the guy. Pahila ta jharko manyo but later when we started to plead with “dai…dai….” He agreed. We gave him the money for three espesal tikas. I paid for one and Rabi paid for two. “Duita kina ni?”, I asked. Rabi said, “kohi sathi bheti haliyo bhane kaam aaucha…”. He then mentioned an incident… last time as he was hanging around jainepal hall with his other friends after buying tickets he met a friend of his from school. That dude couldn’t buy a ticket cuz tikas counter was already closed. Only blacks were walking around saying…fas klass fas klass…..la sekan thar la sekan thar….la especial balkoni deskal..la espesal balkoni deskal…Rabi looked at his friend and asked what he wants to do? Rabi suggested, “why don’t you buy one from a black…we will sit together”. But the dude said, “gatnth chhaina…baru haldena…”. Rabi’s other ticket holder friends were irritated. ke garne sathi lai chhodera cinema herna jana pani bhayena…bhanera.bhate lai tikas kindiye ahile samma tirya chhaina… feri tyastai bhayo bhane…Rabi gave the reason why he paid for two tickets. Ticket seller dai said, “see me after the ticket windows are closed for the tickets”.

deep bro,
actually one of my frens who is a tourist guide in thamel took a spanish lady on a date to ratnapark ...and told her that its the place to be..the park of kathmandu;;
was just reminded of that story when u took ratnapark's name.
Deep Posted on 27-Sep-02 12:57 PM

Dhumbasse, your Boudhha-Biswarup story reminded me of a guy. One fine evening, we (three friends) were walking to Pashupati from Guiheswori. You know that plateau between those two temples (starting from Gorakhnath and Manakamana temples at one end and the Ganesh ko murti on the other….you know if you head east from that Ganesh ko murti then you will be reaching Bisworup…the abode of gobardhan baba)? Anyway, we were walking on that plateau. We say a magne kt followed by a swinging dude. That dude was trying to persuade the girl for romance, I guess. But she may have seen many romantic dudes like him in the past. So, she was not paying much attention to the dude. In fact, she was cursing him and asking him to go away. The dude was rather getting closer to her saying “ke ho hamlai ta wastai nagarni….?..”. Whe she saw us behind her, she stopped and asked for help from us. “dai, hernu na yo moro le wakka pari sakyo…ke ke bhanchha bhanchha…..alachhina moro…”. The dude also stopped and looked at us. It was a quiet evening and we were the only five people there. The dude had dui char din nakatya dari mukhma, ek khat maila maila luga coverd by a torn LT jacket jyanma, tennis shoes khuttama, blue overshadowed by mayal and dirt pants sukya tighrama….ek taal ko thyo. He was mildly swinging. I guess he was there after visiting Boudhha for some chhyang and gobardhan baba for some shiva buti. He probably was not expecting us there. Naresh, one of us, asked in his heavy voice, “ye ….ke ho tero taal?….”. I guess shiva buti and chhyang judhechha kyara…“gaad dinchhu…ek ek lai…” bijule chamkya jasto gerera chamkyo dude. Took off his wrist watch and put that in his pants pocket, tried to roll up his sleeves then tin bitta ufriyo that swinging dude and fell on that stone paved way. We were laughing….Naresh said again, “bhag yata bata….”, ladi ladi kanai dude said looking at the girl, “ye ma bhage dekhi timiharu lane yellai…..garai parla….ek ek lai…”
Biswo Posted on 27-Sep-02 04:05 PM

Hi Deepji,

I think your friend was silly. I mean, he knew it probably all along, he asked for
two tickets, he went back to home and eventually he was with his father watching
the movie. Can't be that many coincidences!
deep Posted on 27-Sep-02 05:36 PM

No, Biswoji. I don't think he wanted to watch that movie with his father. Certainly not. He was not that close to his father to bring him to the theater to watch that love masala movie together. In fact, he used to avoid his father as much as possible in those days. That extra ticket was truely for a friend. The movie was a hit one and was playing with sold out seats. , he bought one extra ticket just in case.....for a ticketless or niras friend. He went home to have "bhat" not to bring his father.

Anyway...after that incident, I also avoided his father as much as possible for many days. kya bore....
