1136 unique visitors in last 24 hours.

This site is gathering steam, it seems. The daily average used to be around 700. Then it started topping 800. Now over 1100. Phew, that is impressive. I am waiting for the number to jack up to 7000!

Let's e-mail to all our contacts inviting them to the site.

Hi Paramendra,

I highly value what this site has been able to accomplish in terms of creating a community of physically scattered Nepalis... but somehow I fail to see what the point is of setting out quantitative goals of increased site traffic alone (besides increased income to the owners of the server hosting the site). I think there are many more effective ways of increasing the QUALITY of this site!

Reminds me of the Nepali tourism ministry a few years ago aiming for a million tourists a year by 2000... rather than aiming for maximum income from tourists... or maximum dispersal of income from tourists or something like that which directly benefits Nepal.

if it makes you happy I will erase the cookies on my browser every time I visit, and then I can be 20 unique visitors a day instead of just the 2 or 3 I am now, logging in from 2-3 machines a day.

Arnico.
najar Posted on 03-Oct-02 02:14 PM

I agree with Arnico.
With all due respect to Paramendra, I also do not understand the whole point of setting a quantitative target. Even with the current number, how many of us read all the postings? More than likely, we skim through them and read the ones that interests us, so why try to focus on the number rather than the quality?
paramendra Posted on 03-Oct-02 02:48 PM

Quantity does not equal to diminishing quality. On the other hand, limited number of visitors hints at elitism.

This is a great achievement gained by sajha.com! crossing the limit of 1000 visitors in 24 hrs. is a highly appritiable thing for sajha.

Logical Sense Posted on 03-Oct-02 08:50 PM

Quantity follows Quality, Quality follows Quantity - it is chicken and egg situation. So, let us strive for both.

I think Paramendra's striving for quantity has meaning because more people join, quality people will also join so not only we get many Tara's we will get many Chandrama's too.....

And I agree with kunjan and Arnico on the part when they say only quantity has no meaning, we all can generate fake traffic which is meaningless. But, we must take a level up for the quality.

My point is we should not keep waiting for the quality to go up for the quantity, but, both can be achieved simultaneously, and they come automatically too.

Anecdotes like Tourism, .... It is like Nepalese education beurocrats used to say why we need more Universities, we need quality Universities, and let us make it's quality better. The Nepali education system never flourished. But, now after allowing other Universities to pop up, look at now, with lots of Universities there is competition and education system in Nepal is bearing good fuits (definitely, there is growing pain...)..... If only we had our education system overhauled 50 years back ......

Let's just go with the flow for the time being ...

I do understand Arnico's concern, though. Ultimately, what do we want it to be? Food for thought.

San Posted on 04-Oct-02 10:57 AM

The rise in the unique visitors was too good to be true so I had to do a little research to find that Google now is in love with sajha.com.

Google has been sending hundreds of robots to index sajha.com in the past few days. Which means that discussions in sajha.com will be more visible to the external world, i.e. when someone searches for words in google, sajha.com's discussions could be in the resulting page.

I have now removed Google IP address from the unique visitors count.

1086 unique visitors in last 24 hours. - This is a more likely count.

San Ji,
Hundreds of robots to index sajha.com in the past few days!! What a cool thing. Yes.. few weeks ago, I was searching something in google for my research paper, and it returned sajha.com as a result. Then, I thought Sajha had become really well-liked site.

San ji, keep up with your good work.

Regards,
Hell

This surge of traffic! Really. What happened? My guess: San's using a new host for the site. The previous host had a ceiling, more than so many visitors, and the site is no longer available. That drove people off.
