Avid, loyal Knicks Fan!!! I know, I know, they are not gonna be in the championships, but atleast I can support 'em. One story after another, plaguing the team..yet its the only team from NY, so u gotta support 'em. I hate NETS! Ke chha Rusty? They have Knicks vs Celtics tomorrow at 9 pm est on MSG. What do you think the future of Sprewell will be as far as the Knicks organization is concerned?

DWI Sprewell fined a quarter million just for not lettiing them know he was injured!!!!! Well, he will be out for another six weeks, but there's a hope that he will come back with his strong confidence and strong shooting ability. As a hardcore knicks fan, I ought to be optimistic, but I can see the future of the Knicks this year. It takes about two seasons for the kicks to rebuild the team, I think. I reside within the celts territory, but I won't wish for their win tomorrow. I am more curious to see how the McDyess and Baker will make difference in their teams tomorrow. Rusty

That's what I was pertaining to Rusty. The fine imposed upon Sprewell can have a very costly consequence. Sprewell was reportedly "Unhappy" about the decision. Sprewell is a guy who needs constant motivation to play up-to-his-level. The fine, which is I think one of the highest fine imposed by a team (not even the league), means Knicks can live without Spree and they don't want to see his tantrums. I am sure they didn't fine him because Cablevision is going broke, :) Sprewell deserved it, even though he is my best player. I hope he puts his acts together. I can't imagine what would happen if Sprewell, Allen Iverson and Anthony Mason were put in the same team. (Oakley has good work ethics even though he has bad reputation.) Anyways, lets hope the best for the Knicks, they need it oh-so very badly. Go Knicks!

It will be really good to see NY Knicks in the bottom of the their division. I think they should have fires Scott Layden and Don Chaney after the last season. They should have traded Sprewell for Glen 'Big Dog' Robinson. I really think Sprewell is one of the overrated (my fav word) in his position. If you look at his nos. for last can prove that. They should have got Mutombo for Kurt Thomas and Travis Knight. It would have look liked following 10 men roster for Knicks: PG: Howard Eisley/Charlie Ward 13.0 (projecting for year 02/03) SG: Allan Houston 20.0 SF: Glen Robinson 18.0 PF: Antonio McDeyes 14.0 C: Dikembe Mutumbo 9.0 off the bench: C Weatherspoon(SF/PF), S. Anderson(SG/SF), O. Harrington(PF/C), F Spencer(C) I still do think though NY can land premier player like Payton/Van Axel for PG position. anybody there who agrees with me?

About winning the championship, I still think Lakers are the team to beat. I hate lakers though. I think Magics are the team to beat(if G. Hill is healthy). Already excited about the 03 season Free Agency. It will be great to see Jkidd and TD in one team and beat the hell out of Shaq and the Lakers. Peace

>>Sprewell is a guy who needs constant motivation to play up-to-his-level. I agree with DWI. Sprewell must stay in the Knicks. >>They should have got Mutombo for Kurt Thomas and Travis Knight. I don't think so. KT is a big back up PF for the Knicks. He can score and he can grab rebounds if he gets enough time to get on the floor. Mutombo's getting too old now. Eastern teams still think he can be a big center for eastern conference and western as well (specially to guard big Shaq!!). He's been getting traded every season to every champ prospect teams in the east. But, I think he can't help any team to win the title. The Knicks don't need Mutombo!!! Yeah, they should have tried to get Van Axel......

People have been calling his age concern last 4-5 years. He is till the All star calibar Center who can ate least go head to head with Shaq. About the Kurt, he is still the backup PF. There is only one team that he can be starter and that being KNICKS. He is a good player for 20 mins per game. No question he had a great nos last year with Camby being injured. His no. will decline this year with the presence of Antonio M. I won't be surprised to see him traded this year.

News about KNICKS' Sprewell,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Sprewell fined $250,000, banished by Knicks for not reporting injury By CHRIS SHERIDAN AP Basketball Writer October 8, 2002 GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP) -- Sending a costly message that his misdeeds will no longer go unpunished, the New York Knicks fined Latrell Sprewell a staggering $250,000 for failing to report an injury. Sprewell also was banished indefinitely from the team for failing to notify the Knicks that he broke his shooting hand two weeks before training camp. Vowing an appeal, Sprewell said his relationship with the team had been harmed but that he still wanted to play in New York. ``They talk about being a family but they're not sticking with me,'' Sprewell told the Daily News. The fine was believed to be the largest ever imposed by an NBA team on a player. The most expensive penalty ever imposed by the NBA was a $500,000 fine against Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban last season for his repeated criticism of officiating. ``The biggest thing to me is that I'm hurt ... so don't kick me when I'm down,'' Sprewell told The New York Times. ``It's not going to affect the way I play. What it's going to do is affect my relationship with the front office. ... But as bad as I think their decisions are, I still love New York.'' Because Sprewell was not suspended, he will continue to be paid his full salary of $12.6 million. The players' union will appeal the fine on various grounds, said executive director Billy Hunter, who called the amount unreasonably excessive. Sprewell told The Times he was ``absolutely certain'' he would not have to pay the fine. ``I understand their position that I should have told them,' he said. ``I'll give them that. But I really didn't think it was that serious of an injury. And I definitely don't understand how they can fine me a quarter of a million dollars and tell me not to be around the team for something like that. That's excessive. ``If somebody just deserves a spanking, don't bring that whip down on them. That's just petty. ... The whole thing is a farce.'' NBA spokesman Tim Frank said the Knicks were within their rights to fine Sprewell such a large amount. League and union officials said they could not recall a larger team fine. The collective bargaining agreement allows a team to fine or suspend a player for failing to report an injury, although it does not specify a maximum penalty. ``It's a gray area,'' Hunter said. Sprewell had surgery last week to repair a broken bone in his hand and will be sidelined at least five more weeks. The Knicks open the season Oct. 30. ``We'll decide when it's appropriate for him to rejoin the team,'' Knicks president Scott Layden said. Sprewell has a history of run-ins, both major and minor, with his employers. His most infamous episode came when he attacked Golden State coach P.J. Carlesimo during a practice, leading to a suspension that cost him $6.4 million in salary. After being traded to New York, Sprewell skipped all of training camp in 1999 without explanation. He also was routinely late, often by a half-hour for home games. He was suspended for one game late last season after he missed a pre-game shootaround in Miami. But after Sprewell met with chairman James Dolan of Cablevision, the team's corporate owner, the fine was cut from $125,000 to $2,500. The events Monday showed that the Knicks have had enough. ``Frankly, we've tried other things and we're going to try something different this time,'' Layden said, trembling as he delivered the news. ``He's a member of this organization and we want to get it right, OK? We have not been able to get it right so far.'' Sprewell contends he did not know the severity of the injury until he reported to the team last Monday and had his hand X-rayed. The Knicks initially supported Sprewell's reasoning, citing his high threshold for pain. But the team reversed course during training camp last week and told Sprewell to stay home pending a meeting Monday. The sit-down with Layden, coach Don Chaney and Madison Square Garden executive Steve Mills lasted about 20 minutes. ``I don't understand why they are alienating me from the team,'' Sprewell told the Daily News. ``I know one thing, they don't want me talking to (the media) and getting out my side of the story.'' Sprewell's agent, Robert Gist said the Knicks were diminishing the value of a player they are seeking to trade, although he expects Sprewell to play for the Knicks again. ``I'm concerned about the relationship and healing it,'' Gist said. ``This is a terrible way to start the preseason, telling the public he has to stay away, suggesting that he is a cancer to the other players. How do you amend that?'' Sprewell told the team he hurt the hand when he slipped and fell aboard his yacht. In justifying the team's punishment, Mills pointed out that Sprewell immediately told the trainer about the injury when he reported to practice. Layden and Chaney insisted Sprewell will remain an important part of the team, which missed the playoffs last season for the first time in 15 years. Sprewell was the Knicks' second-leading scorer, averaging 19.4 points. ``Even with all this ... that they're putting me through I still want to be here,'' Sprewell told the Daily News. ``That will never change.''

It sure feels good to see more posting on Sports on Sajha..Why do we have so less sports fan in Sajha? About Mutombo trade with Kurt, I heard that the price tag did played the factor this time. The Cablevision stock has plummeted down and thus when GM Scott Layden tried to make a trade for costly Mutombo (Thomas is one of the most economically sound player in the team), the ownership turned him down. Would that trade have been good? Yes and NO (a big NO). I agree with AX, in that the trade would have been more fruitful for the Knicks this season than having Kurty here. But everybody knows Knicks are not going to the Conference Final, even with Mutombo this year. Besides, Knicks do have the caliber to goto Playoffs with Kurt (w/o Mutombo). I agree with Rusty primarily. Mutombo is getting older and has far less years than Kurt. He is not a good player to build a team around, because of his age. Kurt gives more for the bucks that he takes and he is a dirty player (Mutombo plays a little, well, sissy). Knicks, under Cheney, are supposed to be offensive team in years to come; unlike under Van Gundy. Mutombo is good for a defense oriented team. Mutombo was best suited for Nets, who could face Lakers on Finals..even though they still might loose it as Sixers had him on 2001 finals and still lost. Magic, will probably go to the Eastern Conference finals. It won't be an easy battle for Lakers, they have Mavericks, Spurs and Blazers to fear. I think any one of those can win the West. But again I predicted Yankees vs Cardinals in MLB. So you know how bad my observation is.

It will be good to see who will be starting All Star Game at the Center position from the East. Mutumbo will have a huge year this year playing beside JKIDD. Mutombo is the only legitimate center in the East as ZO have to sitout this season. He had good nos than Kurt Thomas last year while playing with the one of the most selfish player Allen Iverson.

Dirk Nowitzki had 26 points and Raef LaFrentz added 19 points and 16 rebounds Tuesday night, sending the Dallas Mavericks to a 105-94 win over the Sacramento Kings in an exhibition opener. Michael Finley had nine points and LaFrentz scored eight during a 22-8 run to begin the fourth quarter as the Mavericks turned a 78-77 deficit into a 99-86 advantage. What an exciting opening!!! Sitara Ji, And, I can still reminisce your magical move. It was lithe and quicker than the ball itself. You're spinning in the air through the blocking forearms within painted area (D Area). Your hands were spreading like stars, stretching to suspend on the rim. The ball was grasped from five, and only five magic fingerprints!! You lifted up in the air soothingly, slapped a slam-dunk in the rim, and agilely landed on the floor. All I could do was watch your: grimaces, smiles, concentration, movement, and the calculation. And no time was wasted to enjoy it. You grasped that globe and keep it dribbling. You worked it up higher than hands and lifted it up higher than the grab of gravity. Sitara Ji, very nice poem. I hope I didn’t commit any flagrant fouls in this game;) Let me get to your “called to action” thread ;)

Oys Ji I also heard that big Shaq is not worried about the threat posed by the Sacramento "Queens." hehehe!! Shiva Ji, some high lights from last night: 1. Knickerbockers' first victory of presentation games over the Spurs:) - A Mcdyess with 7 rebound, and 13 points. The other night he had 17/17:) - Kurt Thomos had 17 boards the other night and 10 last night:) - Eiesly can be better point guard if he gets enough time. Last night he had 14 points, but not impressive assist. 2. Watch for this team Washington wizards. New formation of team with Jerry S., B Russells, Juan Dixon ( champ from UMD), and Kwame Brown. - K Brown had 20 points, 5 rebounds. Kwame Brown will perform why he was number one overall pick last year. - Juan Dixon will try to hold the rookie of the year "title" yes, the mav are slamming all their opponents in presentation series, but they can't be the champs from the west:)

He scored 15 of his 23 points and 15 rebounds in the first half for New York. He might be out for several weeks. I hope the injury is not serious..otherwise we're gone for good. Eisley should focus more on assists than scoring. I like Cheney making Charlie Ward the starting point guard for now. He may not lead in the assists, but he does control the game as he has the experience as a Quarterback too. But he may not be a point guard for a championship team. Eisley does have the quality for it. The best case scenario would be Eisley developing his skills as a backup man and finally 'earning' the spot. He performs better when challenged, remember last year he had a brilliant game when he was awarded the starting position for a small span. If McDyess Knees need another surgery, Knicks season is gone and they might as well go to the operation theatre.

Ewing might play, but there is only 10% of chance. You can't just jump into the game, you need to prepare yourself physically. Kwame is finally making his presence felt. I heard he had 22 points and double digit rebounds today. I think he will start flourishing after half of the season is over, under a good supervision of Ewing, Jordan and Oakley. Rusty, start liking Rangers now. I will still watch Knicks but just to see some miracles.

Knicks vs Utah 4th Quarter, 5:44 left Score: Knicks 78: Utah 71 Can they show this resiliency in the regular season? Houston, keep it up. If they can hang on to 0.500 avg till February, we will have some hopes. If McDyess is out for the entire season, Knicks can exercise their $4 million relief to get a center, bad thing is no good center available ...and money is so low.

I was very happy to know that they beat Suns and am delighted to know they beat Kings also last night. I think we have won all the games against powerful west teams (including Spurs). But it is just the preseason game and we shouldn't get too much excited. I hope they will repeat the success in the regular season. I share your feeling Rusty. I am particularly unhappy with the media right now. They are treating Knicks like trash. Daily News, ESPN channels and even MSG channels are hardly showing anything about Knicks (except for the Sprewell controversy and McDyess misfortune, ofcourse). Now after winning the difficult game, they should be praising the Knicks. Knicks, even in the preseason game, are doing something impossible. They should be encouraged, nobody is encouraging them right now. I like the attitude, Rusty. Lets keep it going, lets keep the ball rolling. Pick and Roll!

My 6 points to improvize the Knicks: ***************************** Oct 18, NY Knicks vs San Antonio Spurs score Knicks wins 84-74 This is a preseason game and Knicks are probably within top 4 of Eastern Conference. Reason to celebrate? Hardly...didn't Jets won all 4 games of Preseason only to fall head over heels now. But there are lots of things to learn from the unexpected and pleasant results: 1. Allan Houstan is performing consistently well. In every victories, one other member has stepped up and played well; be it Shandon Anderson, Harrington, Thomas or Weatherspoon. Moral: Knicks should constantly feed to Houstan and if he is well guarded then should feed to the person who is playing hot. 2. Out of 4 quarters, Knicks perform best in 1st and 3rd quarters, almost always. Moral: 1st and 3rd quarter are followed by detailed motivational breaks (start and half time). Don Chaney should realize it and devise a more efficient motivational speech and gestures. 3. Knicks should know how to integrate Sprewell to this part of winning formula. For now, Houstan should be the leading guy and Spree shouldn't be trying too many tough shots. He should be given the ball only when Houstan is not free to shoot. 4. The scores are almost always well under 90 and still Knicks are leading? It reminds us of Van Gundy's defense era. Knicks are forcing the opposition to take tough shots. May be we should look more into defense, although this could be very controversal idea. We don't have any good rebounder and shot blocker, but we do have people who can play dirty like Thomas and Harrington. They should be assigned exclusively for defensive game. With the fall of McDyess, we shouldn't count on being offensive force now. 5. This is a jump shooting team, Houstan and Sprewell will be shooting jumper from outside the 'key.' There should be atleast one tall guy always crossing the paint area. Doleac and Pope should do that part well. May be we can use $4.5 million exception for that. 6. More shots are gonna come from outside the paint. That means we should be practicing more jump shots than shots from free throw lines as less penalties will be awarded.

DWI Bro, Excellent analysis of our team and the players :) How nice!! our team’s been pounding over all western teams throughout the preseason series. Hope the knicks will play with the same potency in regular season, and zip up their critics' mouth. I am very conceited that our team still retains the basic *modus operandi* of defense, instigated by Van Gundy/Pat Riley. Obviously, we don’t have big guys (with the ability and agility) to dominate the game within the painted perimeter, so, as you said, we must depend upon the outside jump shoots. Houston must be consistent with his sharp shooting ability, and Sprewell must carry on his versatility to defend and enhance his jump shooting ability. About Kurt Thomos, I always admire this guy for his instinct. He always plays with his best whenever he’s on the floor. Go Knicks Go!!!!!

I fully supported management's decision to punish Sprewell, but this thing is going a little too much out-of-way. Spreewell was again suspended and fined by Knicks for not following the team's instructions for rehabilitating his broken right hand. It now looks to me like Knicks want to paint a bad image for Spree so that no other team would even want him. I still haven't digested the fact that Spree has to leave NY. May be I will start to. There is some level of justice to it, but over all I think they are both acting like child.

DWI, As Knickerbocker fan, I want to see Sprewell clouting slam dunks in the basketball court, not slapping millions dollar law suit in justice court. This is undoubtedly revealing bad sign for the Knicks before the beginning of season. Looks like Knicks management will hit their own head till they plummet. Yeah, I agree with you DWI…. Both of them are playing kids’ game right now. However, I think Sprewell can get traded even though his career is painted with bad images.
|
| DWI |
Posted
on 22-Oct-02 07:18 PM
That's true Rusty. A lot of team will still shop for Sprewell, no matter how bad the Knicks paint him. Knicks management should have the ability to handle these kind of situation better, for the fat check they earn. A.I. has problems with Sixers, but he is still cool there. Giants had similar problem but the mgmt overcame it with grace. Knicks action might be justified, but certainly not the best decision to make. I think Spree will win the first suit and won't have to pay that record amount. However, the recent fine sanctioned by the Knicks cannot be well challenged. If Knicks remove the latter fine(for suspension), that could well mend the relationship as Spree won't have to pay a dime after that (the first one being taken care of by the counter suit). Hey Rusty, we have a game tonight.

Dear NBA fans, With Grant Hill healthy, how far will the Magic go this season? - I think Magic can go to first round of play-offs with or without Grant Hill. He looked sharp in his return last night. Notice that Kwame had 12 points and a career-high 18 rb in the season opener...AND 20+ points tonight, 7 rb, and 6 block shots tonight. Good for the Wizards!!! This guy might be the most improved player of this season. But, one can't judge at this momemt of the season.

Jordan played good Rusty? Good news. Yeah, Nailon's addition is not gonna alter anything; but for 800,000 dollars he is a bargain. He can give another 10 points coming off the bench. Remember, Detroit had strong bench and their bench outscored ours by 31-9 or something like that. I think he is better than anybody except Houston, Spree or Thomas in the current roster...as far as scoring is concerned. But you're right, not much impact.

K_loaded!!! I agree to this statement -......"Memphis would have made it to the NBA finals, had this guy been there".. Shaq just needs a point guard LIKE Kobe, who can score 22-25 ppg, as second man to score in the team. That can be Paul Pierce, Vince Carter… Shaq really doesn't need Kobe to win the championship, despite the fact that Kobe has been playing outstandingly since the beginning of this season. Yes, Memphis has been the high-flying team formed by several talented rookies. Last year, two good rookies: Paul Gausol and Shane B…. , and this year, there are two outstanding rookies in the team. I don’t know their names….

Rusty is right. Yao has to get more physical and has to gain more weight, if he wants to prove otherwise. He might be a premier shot blocker and rebounder, but not a scoring threat...much like Mutombo. Knicks vs Pacers...I sense 2nd victory for Knicks already. Hey, that means we are as good as the world (errr NBA) champions Lakers. That is the reason I will give my friends when they're gonna ask me why I am still watching every Knicks game.

Good to see another loyal Knickerbroker, after Rusty, BigTime! I would support them till the end of the season and in the draft day, when we will get LeBron James, the new Highschool kid who should be as good as MJ (well theoretically). Yao has good jump shots and is a better scorer than Mutombo, but he cannot 'slice-and-dice' as Walt Clyde would say. I think the best he can average over his career is 19 ppg, which is good..as good as Spree or close to Houston.

Ax, Sprewell is my favourite player in all NY Sports. Having said that, I think the deal sounds good for the team. I've heard the deal involving Spree and the exception ($4.5 million) for Jalen and on Marcus Fizer(6-8, 10.8 career points). This deal can soothe the recent turmoil and besides Jalen is better than Spree in every points according to the box score. H owever, is he a better player than Spree? That's a debatable question. Spree is a big catalyst and he doesn't need to be 'ball-fed', he creates most of his shots. Jalen needs plays design for himself, even if he is very good at steals. But I don't mind the trade, either way it would be good for the future. For present, the deal might be what Knicks need right now.

Lakers are too dependent on Shaq....No Shaq no win for lakers. Lakers are not well balanced. Poor Kobe, trying to salvage the team by himself. No help around. In contrast see the Mavs. No Lafrentz, no problem. I mean the team is quite balanced and every body is contributing to the game. See the game with Detroit..the #1 in defense.... MAVS have a good chance this year.......Go MAVS Go...........

....'no shaq no win for laker'-NEGATIVE!........its true championship ring heavily revolved around this big guy, but LAKERS are still a playoff team even without him. Its just that it will take some time to adjust without him. And talking about kobe, leave duncan aside, he is the best allrounder in the league. Just watch him get better and better. And with shaq? .........nowhere is championship goin!

I am not questioning about the Kobe's performance. He is one of the best players in NBA. But One man is know way can take the team towards its goal. We have seen in the recent past. Kobe's more than 40 points didn't help to win the game. Lakers needs Shaq to win the game and championship. Otherwise play off also might be a dream for them...

Agree with Thakkar. I even go as far as saying that Lakers won't repeat the championship, even with a healthy Shaq. Heck, they won't reach the NBA Finals (coz if they reach the finals, they will win it, no team in East can gun 'em down). I have no complains so far for Knicks, except may be a small unsatisfaction of game closure, or lack thereof. They look far better than what they were a year ago, even if their record doesn't show it. I think they will give the 8th team in Eastern Conference, the run for their money for making playoffs.

I like MAVRICS too...they r playing far more better than last year....but hey...this is just the beggining...NBA is a long series..about 8 damn months..anything is possible... I just love the way mavricks handle the ball...STEVE NASH..he is da man.. But MAVS really has to play their A game to go and compete with lakers in the playoffs....it is a tough task..but they certainly have chance this year.. Far about chamionship game, they won't even be in playoff. I like Kings chances with the addition of Plastic man and his energy off the bench. And knicks fan, wait for till next year. They are playing for Lebron James Lottery pick. Too bad, there is no taker for the malcontect Spree and his big tiem contract. any guys, any though about resignation of Sidney Lowe from Memphis Grizzlies?? I think with that team has a potential to be good team at least playoff calibar.

I don't hate lakers neither I am a fan of Lakers. I am just trying to point the reality. Here is what CNN saying; Kobe Bryant hopes to have Shaquille O'Neal back soon. For the last three years, the Lakers have been NBA champions. Tonight, they're just trying to stay out of last place. Stumbling in Shaquille O'Neal's absence, they'll try to end their 3-game losing streak as they take on the Hawks tonight. Hope they will achieve at least this goal. Good luck for them.......

hmmmmmmmmmm now i know BTP is no big fan of Lakers but the fan of Basketball. and can we stop calling NBA champion as the world champion. BTP i am sure you followed world championship. US basketball team was not even qualified for the 2nd round in world championship. I know how lakers players and their fans feel about the Kings. I really think Kings can compete with lakers in west. Kings are better team than last year with the addition of Plastic man. Lakers got same players may be weak on the backup PG position. Let's not forget the kings-lakers series went to 7 last year. I don't think MAVS are that good as ppl are saying here. They don't have quality center and are undersized to beat the lakers. They beat Suns, Warriors, Grizzlies, Raptors, Bulls, Pistons and Blazers. All of those teams are non playoff teams beside Pistons. Let them play the high power west teams like spurs, lakers and kings. Let's wait and see........

Mavs edge Cavs, move to 8-0 Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki combined to shoot 8-of-29, but Dallas survived a second straight lackluster start to remain the NBA's last unbeaten team. Nowitzki scored 13 of his 17 in the fourth quarter, and the Mavericks won 103-99 at Cleveland to open a three-game lead in the Midwest. Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored a career-high 34 for the Cavs. Rusty, AX and BTP what do you have to say?

Probably next week. That's the latest prognosis after Shaq met with his foot specialist Wednesday, who proclaimed his progress as normal. It could be delayed another week, however, if the Lakers' behemoth continues to experience soreness in his surgically-repaired big toe. Shaq's injury is becoming a bit of a worry for the Lakers, who are off to their worst start in 12 years. Last week he was at practice and everything seemed to be coming along OK. Now he's complaining about pain again and admitting that the toe is restricting his mobility and flexibility. Coach Phil Jackson said Monday he doubted Shaq would be able to play more than three-minute stretches right now. Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak says for now the team is optimistic that Shaq eventually will be 100 percent. He also says the organization won't try to rush him back, even if the losses keep piling up and the Kings build on their Pacific Division lead. "Whenever he says he's ready that's when it will be," Kupchak says. "We don't want to have him come back for one or two games only to have him [re-injure it]. We're going to be patient."

On Monday, Bulls GM Jerry Krause vehemently denied rumors of a Rose-for-Sprewell swap, saying there was "totally no truth" to them. He also said he talked to Rose and informed him there was no deal in the works. Krause is certainly capable of lying to the media, but it is doubtful he would go through the trouble of misleading Rose as well. Still, there are valid reasons why Chicago might want to make this trade. Some Bulls insiders believe Rose and rookie Jay Williams will never be comfortable sharing the primary playmaking duties, and that Chicago needs to find playing time for forwards Eddie Robinson, Tyson Chandler and Marcus Fizer. Meanwhile, Sprewell would give the Bulls a true shooting guard and a defensive presence in the backcourt, where the 6-foot-1 Williams is going to be overmatched many nights. Also, Rose has four years and $60.3 million left on his contract after this season. Sprewell has two and $28.1 million. By taking Sprewell, not only would the Bulls have more financial leeway in 2005 to re-sign some of their young pups, but Sprewell next year could become a valuable trade commodity to another team looking to add a high-scoring player in the final year of his deal. As for the Knicks, it's clear they would like to get rid of Sprewell right away. He has worn out his welcome in Gotham by showing up late for games and failing to tell management about an offseason accident that left him with a broken hand. Rose, a playmaking small forward with more size than Sprewell, would be a better fit. Plus, as one league exec points out, his contract expires at the same time as Allan Houston's (2007), meaning New York could clear massive cap space at that time. Despite these reasons, however, it's hard to envision Krause giving up on Rose after he traded away so much (Brad Miller, Ron Artest and Ron Mercer) to acquire him. Besides, the volatile Sprewell can be a dangerous ingredient in any rebuilding mix. Just ask P.J. Carlesimo.

Watch tonight with NJN ... Hopefully you will have an answer... I don't expect MAVS 82-0 by the end of the regular season. Najera has improved his jumper. Nash, Nowitzki and Finely will be always there. But i still do think Lakers and Kings are the team to beat this year. Let Bibby and Shaq come back. Mavs fans (Chickens), Why are so guys so much excited about the Mavs' winning streak as if the Mavs are the first team to do so??? There's nothing to get excited about? Last season, the Kings were #1 in regular season with less than 20 losses throughout the season. You know what the Lakers did even though the Kings showed their potency. In the previous season (01-02), the 76ers had 17 wins in a row. Did they win championship? After all, experience counts on the floor when it comes to play-offs and also ‘metal’ preparation. Even though the Mavs have The Lakers and ‘THE’ Shaq have learned very well what it takes to be the champions. Last season, the kings were close to win, but they were still lack of mental toughness and experience to win the title. The Mavs, a team formed with bunch of JOKERS, won’t win the title regardless of their winning streak. No other teams will win the title until ‘the’ Shaq is there. About my Knicks, I am still their hardcore fan, and I will support them till the end of time. I ain’t like you guys, who tend to decline towards winning teams. They won’t make the play-offs this season, but there’s always hope for next season. Rust

Few things to notice from last night’s game: 1. T Mac scored more than 30 points in last 10 games. Can he win scoring title this season? I think he might!!! One thing I like about him- he is very confident player. 2. Yao Ming scored 20 points on 9-of-9 shooting in a 93-89 win against the Lakers. -------------- My prediction for this season: Rookie of the year: Drew Gooden Defensive player of the year: Ben Wallace Season MVP: J Kidd, or Dirk N (!!!) Scoring leader: Tmac/Iverson Rebounding: Ben Wallace Assist: Gary Payton Blocks: Theo Ratiliff Steals: Iverson Free throws: Tmac 3-points: Paul Pierce

I Agree RUsty!! when it comes to playoffs, experience is the big factor!!!! KINGS would have won last year but they were not tough enough mentally to beat lakers....I think, MAVS will make it to the playoffs easily..but then..they gotta bring their game to the next step...if they can do it, they will win..if not..they r gone!! I THINK TMAC has a big chance of bieng a scoring leader... YAO ming played pretty good last night..eh? PAUL PIERCE..i like the way he play..but he is not consistent...same with IVERSON.... I Go with Tmac..he is da best player right now in nba....AND MR>KOBE BRYANT is not too far behind him..he is right along with him...KOBE PLAYIN A GREAT BB >>>>

Let's wait till they play Kings, Spurs, Sonics and the Lakers. I really do think they will need couple more playoffs experience to win the championship.

Based on the discussion so far and my own assessment of the teams, the way they have played, here is my evaluation of the teams discussed in this message board. Dallas Mavs Arguably the best team right now. When they got Raef LaFrenz and Van Excel last year, beating Knicks, without loosing valuable players, it was crystal clear that they were a team made for championship. There 11-0 record is just a simple product of having too many talents in a team which can afford to calm one talent while another one 'steps-up.' They are surely claim NBA West division. Million dollar question: Can they win the title? Yes Support from Sajhaites: 7(Shiva Shiva, jackass, Madhav, Thakkar sharma, Maobadi Pidit, Big Time Playa, Sanu nani) ********************** LA Lakers Every great things must come down. All other teams are working on beating the Big Daddy. Whereas, Lakers have done nothing significant. Not Progressing means going down, you cannot remain still. Million Dollar Question: Can Shaq repeat it? No Support from Sajhaites: 3 (Sporty, Tranquiller, K_loaded) ******************** Wizards Had to mention this team coz few members did. This looks like rebuilding team, with Kwame on the center of everything. Stackhouse addition was a big gain. May be next year, they will be Eastern Conference champ. Thousand Dollar Question: Can they make the playoff? Yes Support from Sajhaites:2 (Farifaxed, Kool Dude) ******************** Knicks How can I live my best team? They aren't as bad as they look. If the effort steps up in 4th quarter they can be good. Chaney should use the tandem of Spree, Houston and Nailon on 2nd and 3rd quarter. 4th quarter should be given to defensive players (assuming they have the lead). Houston should be given ample time to rest and should be insterted 4 minutes after the 4th quarter. Hundred dollar question: How many games can they win? At least 24, At most 40(I know , its too much). Support form Sajhaites: 3 (Rusty, Ax, DWI) I am very partial as far as Knicks is concerned, but I do think they can win at least 24 games. 40 is too much, but I can atleast hope.

well.....Impressive collection but not necessarily correct(DWI). MAVS are certainly playing superb this season-both offense and defense. Dirk -future MVP. But this is what this game is all about. Every team goes through this period. I remember portland had 13-0 run sometime in last season, spurs had impressive run during the end of the season. its all in the game. To me it looks like mavs gonna end this season with the best record or close. Other than that nothing can be predicted about mavs. They are young playoff team. Here's what don nelson told after mavs-lakers game yesterday-"we tend to look better than we are without shaq on the floor"-there wasnt this confident like 'bring shaq!'. NO doubt they will compete hard-everyone does!-and i agree that every great thing must come down. But not this time, not now. In shaq words-"...... i remember jordan sayin 'everyteam has to go through bulls to win the championship' and now i say every team has to go through the city of LA be a champion. ' + shaq and phill. And about million dollor questions,it was worth penny. No where in the earth can i hear people predecting about team winning championship this soon except for here.

K_loaded. My observations were meant to be criticized, thanks. If Mavs were 5-6, I still would have said good things 'bout them. Kings, Spurs, Blazers don't have a solid record..but they are the teams enough to challenge Lakers. As far as predicting the win this early goes, C'mon that's what prediction is about. Do you want me to predict it before the 4th quarter of the Final championship game? Predicting this early just makes the fun rekindle itself. If u haven't seen it anywhere else, Sports Illustrated, ESPN (the two biggest name in the media) do it before the start of the season. But thanks for the criticism anways. Okay, I haven't given enough credentials to Lakers. But that was my prediction, which is as good as a guess (line inspired from Yogi Berra).

Didnt mean to criticize by any means. I said it was impressive. But the million dollor question you answered(that wasnt a prediction-it was more a certainty, i guess) about the lakers and the shaq was off the line. As far as predictions before the start of the season goes it was predicted by one of these that we gonna have rematch of last year finals and lakers eventually winning the tiltle for the fourth straight time. So your so called prediction was offline. Still not a criticism. Its just that....well in webber's word ' they are the champion and they wil remain the champion unless someone takes it away from them.' By the way, lakers lost again to spurs. Man!...Phill jackson is the man. Much more than we or anybody else in the world he knew how lakers gonna perform without shaq. I am happy he said we gonna start the season 0-7. I take my word back.

K_Loaded, He said that? Phil has really become a wiz after going through that zen stuff. He knows how to place a super star in a team and win games. He might not be an apex, but certainly a corner of the Shaq-Kobe-Phil triangle because of which Lakers have kissed the trophy so many times.

DWI and Thakkar Sharma!! Shaq is the Lakers and the Lakers are all about Shaq. "With the constant efforts of Kobe alone, the Lakers can't go to the play-offs." I can make the assertion here by looking at the current win-lose streaks. Kobe is NOTHING but a above the average skillful point guard, and Phill Jackson is nothing without Shaq. If Shaq is NOT there, none of Phill's championship winning principle works. [I would greatly appreciate Phill Jackson if he went to younger teams like Magic, at that moment, and fetch them to the championship finals. He is a great opportunist, in my view, despite the fact that he has great modus operandi of winning championship.] The biggest mistake the Lakers did in off-season was that they didn't think it was necessary to get a couple of good back-up point guards. For example, see Sac Kings and Mavs. They have all prominent starting and back up point guards. I didn’t mean to say that back-up point guards should be star players. Mike Bibby is not there, but Bobby Jackson can effectively replace his position. More later!! NP

ESPN- We're talking about every NBA center not named Shaquille O'Neal. After Shaq, who's the second-best center? Vlade Divac? Dikembe Mutombo? Tim Duncan would be the second-best center in the NBA, except that he prefers to be the finest power forward instead. Call him a center and he'll bank you off the glass. Zydrunas Ilgauskas could be the second-best center in the NBA, and very well might be at the minute. Trouble is, not even Big Z himself dares to promise you that his blasted feet will hold up. Shaquille O'Neal may be right -- he might be the only real center left in the NBA. Alonzo Mourning should be the second-best center in the NBA, of course, and you know the sad story why he isn't. All we want from Zo now is good health. Everyone's asking that question lately," Indiana president Donnie Walsh said. "Shaq has been first and last for a while."--- My opinion-- Walsh is right! But I would say... there won't be another "Shaq" after this Shaq. He is the most dominant center NBA history. Wilt Chamberlein & Bill Rusells... I don't think they would be taking 20 rebounds per game and scoring 30 points per game if they were playing in this decade.

NP , We didn't want to lower Shaq's value for Lakers at all. Shaq is the reason why their ring goldsmith has found a regular job. But I think Phil Jackson is definately super-star coach. Not that he is a superstar(although publicity wise he is); but he is a coach that can manage superstars. Many times Lakers were in the verge of loosing crucial games (remember Blazers last year) and ofcourse Shaq saved it almost always, but it takes a decent coach to win that many games. If he were a great coach, Lakers wouldn't have been the last place team in Pacific Division. But he knows how to put a winning formula when he is given right ingredients. Changing the subject, Every team (specially Knicks, Heat, Nuggets) should learn from Indiana that you don't need to go through rebuilding process (like Bulls) to transform itself from one generation of players to another. Pacers has done excellent job on doing so, and they actually have gotten a lot better. May be that is coz they weren't in as bad position as Knicks or Heat (with Ewing and Mourning going down) they still have Miller and replacements for Jalen Rose. But my point is, remember how Pacers, Heat and Knicks used to identify themselves as Eastern Conference Leaders. The latter two have failed currently, Pacers are still the best even in this long stretch.

Thats true DWI.....Phill is definetely the mastermind behind the ball game. To add to his legacy, just compare the lakers before and with him. Just two years after phill jackson took over the lakers BANG!!!...lakers go on to win the championship and shaquille o'neal grabs his first MVP title(both regular season and the finals). shaq says'.....thank you phill jackson, the greatest coach of the year.' And then nobody can forget the significant impact of phill in making the bulls and the jordan. For me to make two superstars, infact megastars(shaq and kobe) work together in tandom is the greatest challenge for any coach. And look at phill jackson, he is kool. And Paccers ....just unlucky. They are probably the most underrated team in the league. Damn! look at young o'neal. furure star

I really do think K_Loaded is over stating about Phil Jack Ass. He can only win when has 2 superstars in his team. Let that jack ass coach the knicks (where he played for) and win it. Then i will refer to him what you are saying. DWI, I could not agree with you anymore. No doubt he can manage the team with superstars. Without best players in the game, you can never win the championship. As he has proved with the lakers record being 3-9 as of 11/22/02 for the season 02-03.

AX, u mean you couldn't agree with me 'more'. Yeah, Phil has proved that he is a superstar coach, but I think he also knows that that is his niche. He can win by assembling a winning team (that still is a hard thing to do), but he has never had success with a mediocre team to begin with. I don't know if we should give him the benefit of doubt; as K_loaded says, he is a mastermind and I do agree with him. But AX is also right on challenging on his competiveness. Another question, are coaches as valueable in Basketball as in Football? I can think of the following ways a coach contributes to a team: 1. Influences on who should be traded in or out. 2. Puts a mix of players in the floor, giving special thought to the chemistry. 3. Motivates players during the game and breaks. 4. Challenges referees, asks for more calls for the team. 5. Devices plays which have the biggest impact specially during the last minutes of the game. 6. Assigns responsibility on the court and off the court to the players. Is that enough to give a coach credit for win or loss of a team? If not why do they get fired so fast when team is not performing well. If yes, why is Cheney still in Knicks roster with a renewed contract (money could be a reason here, Cheney is cheap and Cablevision are close to broke). Thoughts about coache's contributions?

well AX.....who do you think is the great coach in the league rt now then? And yeah, as you said, no team can win the championship without great players in the game. But the great coaches make sure that these great player perform upto their pottential, play as a team and bring the ring home. Well Phill jackson has done it all, not once but many time. Hey great coaches doesnt mean that they make team like nuggets(at this point) go to the playoff and win the championship. Great coaching is all about making your player work upto the higher level and get their appreciation. And which coach now rather than phill jackson has mastered in it better? Jordan appreciates him a lot, so does O'neal. And records do speak.

Let's extend the debate as to whether Jackson is a great coach or just loaded with two superstars on the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers. The question becomes can you be a great coach if you always have great players or do taking teams with less talent and reaching the playoffs define a great coach? A guy like Doc Rivers with Orlando gets a lot of credit for being a great coach because he gets the Magic to the playoffs every year. Larry Brown has won a total of 1,200 games wherever he has coached and basketball has rewarded him with induction to the hall of fame. Brown is considered the ultimate teacher in the game, but does that make him better than Phil Jackson? Let me say the reason I’ve changed my mind on Jackson from being a good coach to a great coach is for a couple of reasons. Chicago had Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, but couldn’t climb the hill until Pippen stopped being intimidated by Dennis Rodman when Rodman was in Detroit. The point is that Chicago doesn’t have any NBA titles except for the ones they have with Jackson as the coach. Same thing is true with the Lakers. The Lakers have two of the best players in the NBA with Shaq and Kobe Bryant the marquee players in the NBA now. The Lakers couldn’t win in the playoffs before Jackson got there. Utah used to pick and roll that Lakers team into the ground with the experience of John Stockton and Karl Malone. Shaq had come to a point in his career where people said he’ll get his statistics but the team will never win. Kobe was a young buck that knew he was good but had no control over his game at all. I have to say that Jackson prepares his team well coming into the games, which makes it easier to stay calm on the sidelines during the games. A coach doesn’t have to prowl the sidelines like a lion on the hunt if they are ready to play when the game starts. I think this is where Larry Brown has his frustrations with Allen Iverson because Iverson doesn’t take practice seriously. If the stars don’t take practice seriously then the coach has to work harder during the games since his players have no clue what he is talking about in the games. One other point is what kind of job would Jackson do with a team like Portland that has underachieved for years now? Just because you have talent doesn’t automatically mean you will win. Would fans say it’s Phil Jackson if he went to another team that’s underachieved and won a title. Three different teams would be absolute proof for me and should be for anyone else because I don’t believe in just always being in the right place at the right time. Some of it has to be due to the man that pulls the strings on what goes on for the team. Talent can be mismanaged on a sports team as well as improved. I shouted out, now you shout back and tell me is Phil Jackson a great coach or is it just great talent? Could he win with less talent or does it matter? If you could pick one coach to lead your team who would it be? Rust

MAVs are now 4th quarter team. This is the one of the advantages they have compared to last year. They outscored Seatle 39-20 in 4th quarter to beat Seatle by 115-105. Mavs were down by as many as 16 until 3rd quarter. Oh man what play by MAVS. Now they have 2 more games to go to match the best NBA record. However the road seems tougher than expected. They are facing two of the challenging teams of the EAST. Good Luck MAVS.

Huh...What!!! Rusty I am all support for you and Knickerbrokers. Will play shooting guard. But about Jackson, may be you gave him too much of credit. He still has to prove himself as an all-rounder coach. Remember, even NBA gives coach of the year award mostly to a coach who assembles a winning team with mediocre players(eg Don Chaney, Hubie brown etc). But your analysis was praise worthy, especially about Larry Brown and even about how Jackson has made the 'good' look better and achieved the best. Remember sugar present in a cup of tea won't make the tea sweet until you stir it accordingly.

DWI, I didn't wholeheartedly proclaim that Phill Jackson was the best coach. Notice in the third paragraph, I said I had changed my mind on Jackson from being a ‘good’ coach to a “great” coach. Certainly, after winning 9/10 NBA titles, his place doesn’t dwell under and below average coaches in NBA. I didn’t say he was the greatest/best of NBA. However, I thought I must praise him for crafting winning techniques and managing star players. So, where’re all the players? Mavs haro lai chllenge:)

Mavs won the game with 113-102 over Toronto. They are now 16-1. Damn Pacers spoil the game. Otherwise there would have been a new history written in NBA... BTW Mark Cuban is looking for ideas to get fined. Throw some suggestion so that NBA can fine him. Good luck Shajatis.......

The lakers are going down, but I ain't worry about them NOT going into the play-offs. I am not the Lakers fan......but, I think they will somehow clinch the play-offs as #8 seed and destroy all other best teams, especially the Mavs. The kings are likely to be defeated by the Mavs this year, but the Mavs really really have to work hard to defeat them. They still have to deal with Bobby Jackson's marvelous play, defese of Christie, offense of Webber.....second best center...Divac....etc. Remember, the Mavs were one of the best teams in last play-offs. However they got swept away:) Then, after the Kings, then worry about juggling up with the Lakers. I agree that the mavs will have the best season record with more wins than losses.

Rusty just missed the second three pointer. Rusty dribble the ball less, I am waiting in the left wing; pass it on Mr Point Guard. I was hoping the shot would go to the basket this time (hoped Mavs loose), but may be next time. The shot was not uncontested and tough. Knicks played bad yesterday. The final 3 seconds play was horrible, why couldn't coach Chaney come up with a better play. Why didn't he take time out in the play when Kurt Thomas made a 'fumble?'

Sanunani, where u from? what you do? what's your business? age/sex/location....LOL....I wanna know all? ;) Nope, Mavs are being the best right now... They won't be ...in couple of months:) See, tonight..they will lose the game coz Shaq is very mad by the loss with the Twolves the other night... He will show his versatity to make mavs realize "the lakers are still #1" :) This time, my verbal 3-pointers won't miss:)

I would support Mavs over Lakers any given day. But since now they are the underdog here, I will also bet for Lakers tonight. Rusty, I am doing the Pick, don't miss the shot now! Let the game begin!!!! Where are Mavs fans?

DWI, When you pick, I won't miss....:) Mavs Fans.... you guys ain't their fan. You guys are just a bunch of bendble jokers. Next year, if the Kings win, then you guys run after them!! Shame on you...clowns:p Become fan like Me and DWI...no matter what...the Knickerbockers are sealed into the hearts. It just that they're not being worthy to talk this year. I also bet that the Mavs will be sunk by at least 10 points. :) Problem with Mavs?? Who's gonna guard 'The' Shaq??

Ah, ah......Even Don Nelson is not pretty sure about kicking the lakers' asssss. I sense him getting a technical in the second half, if not in the first.

Knick fans, I would like to assure you all that we are MAVs fan same as you are for Kincks. If you have doubt on our side than we do have the same in your side too. Lets not question who is the fan of which team. One more thing MAVS is our home town team and there is no way we go away from supporting MAVS. Lakers has not done much after Shaq's return as well. Before Shaq's return, they were above Golden State Warriors now they are in the buttom of pacific division. It's not who is going to win tonight. It's important who is going to create a rythem of the game. I would like you all to remember the game of MAVs and Portland Blazers the other night. 10 three pointers (Number may not be accurate) in one quarter. If the same thing repeated tonight forget about the Shaq, nobody will be able to guard MAVS. It's only few hours away. We all will see the facts. Go MAVs Go.....

What the #$&& Rusty!!! What happened to our tandem? See you gave up, but I hung on tight. We beat 'em, Man we beat 'em. I was telling all the way, Kobe is gonna make it happen. Man he could penetrate any defensive layer! Where are Mavs fans! Bring 'em out. Feels like my Knicks won (they lost, for the record). I don't think it proves that Lakers are better than Mavs, but I bet on Lakers and We've won. C'mon Rusty! Celebration!!

well....the lakers won and mr.don nelson got technical in the first quater. What a game! Damn this lakers got all that what it takes to be a champion. when it comes to real game, its takes lots of energy to beat the lakers. History tells. Yeah, mavs fan.....mavs may win the lakers next given day, but chances are less. Just pray mavs dont meet the lakers in the first round of the playoffs. LAKERS DYNASTY.

I admit that it was a history making game. I used to think Mavs are 4th quarter team, now my imagination vanished. It looks mavs still need to work toward defensive ends. I hope they will beat Lakers pretty soon in their home court.

Well...miracle happened... Kobe, not Shaq, and Lakers did what NBA history couldn't do... I think there's only one history before. I saw that kind of games only couple of time.. Once when the Kings were down by 34 against the Suns before the half time, and ended up with the win. Another, last play-offs when Celtics were down with the Nets.... Anyway, let me tell you this. The Lakers are still not prepared, but if they clinch the play-offs, they will mess up all other teams or whoever they confront:) Am I the Mavs fan-- NO Am I the Lakers fan -- Hell NO Let's not chat about the Knicks...:( I can see the fate of this thread.
