from nepalnews "Fear, uncertainty in education sector Kathmandu, May 11: Fear, uncertainty and concern reign supreme in the education sector, as students loyal to underground Maoists threaten to force the closure of private and boarding schools from Monday pressing fee reduction. The radical students have presented 15 demands that also include a stop to the singing of the national song at schools and a ban on Sanskrit education. The students this week vandalized two elite schools in Kathmandu Valley Tuesday to press their demands causing several million rupees in damages. No breakthrough in the impasse is in sight after two rounds of talks between the agitating students, teachers and officials of the Education Ministry. Some schools have threatened permanent closure if the leftists continue their violent agitation. The government Thursday issued a stern message saying it will quell violence. "The forced closure is illegal and anyone indulging in such activities will be severely dealt with," a Home Ministry notification said. The government said additional police will be mobilized for security at schools and asked parents to send their children to school Monday. nepalnews.com br " --------- "The forced closure is illegal and anyone indulging in such activities will be severely dealt with," a Home Ministry notification said. ------------------- what have they done till now? can the government still do anything, or has the maoists issue become too big for anyone to handle? regards, aawaaz www.aawaaz.cjb.net
