Here's a little something that's all too common in Nepalnews.com: "Nepal, China sign six accords Kathmandu, May 14: Nepal and China signed six agreements Monday...Other agreements include...a Rs.700 grant to build infrastructure;..." But of course, why couldn't a bottom of the heap third world nation like Nepal build its "infrastructure" for a measly Rs. 700? :-) Nepali journalists these days, in addition to being plagiarisers, are undoubtedly bad typists. OK, I'll let them get off the hook :-). More seriously, what does the road link between China and Nepal signify? Are we looking for trade relations with the lion (China) as opposed to the tiger (India)? How is Nepal supposed to handle this delicate situation and not end up pissing off both China and India (or any one of them)? How do we benefit from trading with two of the world's biggest? Will India like it? What are the governmental strategies? What is our official stance? Or am I far too hopeful in thiniking that this little "strip" of a road will change the status-quo on Nepal-China trade? I would appreciate if people more aware of these questions post their opinions, perhaps for the benefit of us all. Dui Paise Musings, Hari
