Well to me Nursing is noble profession. Help save life, mitigate miseries, and guranteed job after college, decent money what else? hmm..Used to think not a long ago, only female can be nurse. Not true. Btw, there is one funny movie , is it 'Meet the Parents?' where Robert DeNiro 's perspective son in law is nurse. Anyway this is all...

or is it trick question? :-)

Gurl :) Nurse bhanna saath ppl assume ki she is a care-taker. I think at least in the US there is a lot of scope for employment nurse harulai. Tara Nepal ma ta sarai hepaiti chha nurse lai. Ani like any other profession, nurse haru lai dactaar sanga legeko etc rumor pani failai deko hunchha. Yaha US ma chahi it's quite a respected profession. And also they are very caring ra yaha US ma ta dactaar haru very few moments ko laagi rotation ma matra aunchhan. Ra tesaile nurses le nai biraami ko khayal rakchhan. Florence Nitinglale jasta. :) Tara annoying nurses pani hunchhan that make you wonder how they ever got into nursing school, let alone the work force.
Gurl_Interrupted Posted on 20-Oct-02 07:09 PM

Nah Makuro it's not tricky question. Just wanted to know what views nepali brothers and sisters have about this profession. Coz not long ago, it wasn't respected much. Thanks 4 ur nice comments makuro, appreciate it.

Ok to make the question more clear...Do u guys think Nurses play as imp. role as doctors in making sure their patients get well? Or nurse is just a maid servant of the Doctor doing meagre things. Or u think Nurse is even important than the doctor?

Nice one Sakshi. :)

Sakshi, true. In Nepali language, what are the nurse called? 'paracharika'? If it is the case, then meaning doesn't accord much repsect to the nursing profession because isn't paracharika means someone who is care taker? But if you look at the dictionary the meaning of nurse is very nice one 'nuturing and fostering influence', gives motherly status.

Girl_Interupted:

As a person that has been returning to Nepal annually since 1996 to train Nepali surgeons on new surgical procedures for vasctomy and tubiligation and this year I will be there until February teaching new and updated techniques on post-abortion care, I will be the first one to admit that the quality of nursing eduacation in Nepal has deteriorated terribly in the last few years. There are nursing schools and colleges opening up as though they were mushrooms on the northern slopes of the Himalayas. Furthermore, the cost of nursing education has forced many female nurses to open up "clinics" in rural areas that are not regulated and it is quite likely that they do not provide good medial services. Thus, there is a need to revisit the whole issue of nursing education in Nepal.

Nurses, in the present Nepali context, are not only "care takers" but also allopathic drug sellers, community workers and of course DO provide essential health care services at the grassroots level. However, having said this, I think that the "quality" of nursing education in Nepal has to be well regulated so that the profession of "nursing" does not suffer any more from bad press and publicity.

Would love to hear yours and other vistor's reaction on this issue!!!!!!
Gurl_Interrupted Posted on 21-Oct-02 10:31 AM

Thank u for ur point of view Harvard_Dropout Dai.

I am not very familiar with the nursing educational system in Nepal at the present time so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I would have loved to commented on your writing but am kinda zero regarding this information. Never had a nepali nursing background nor did I had relatives or close friends practising in the field. Those that I knew of weren't very much of help in educating me about nursing.

"I think that the "quality" of nursing education in Nepal has to be well regulated so that the profession of "nursing" does not suffer any more from bad press and publicity." So does that mean that if nursing is portrayed negatively by the media than media isn't lying. They're portraying the fact? I know it's true lot of the times. But lot of the other times it is false also. I don't blame the media either.
But the media shouldn't forget about the brighter side of nursing either...I think it should not forget to portray nurses as compassionate, caring, professiional and intelligent. Esp. the two of the later ones, which is hardly mentioned by anyone. There r nurses or aspiring nurses who hold thes qualities. U know the more negatively they r portrayed...the less trust/faith the patients have in them hence undergrading the nurses abilities...which might ultimately effect the pts. health also (In a psychological point of view).I dunno about Nepal's practice of nursing or nurses that much. But in other parts of the world, I think Nurses spend majority of the time with their patients in making sure that their pts. come out successfully from their illnessess.Much more time than the doctors do. They make sure to treat their pts. hollistically. Hence In my point of view Nurses shouldn't be thought of as hand-maidens of Doctors...somebody dull or as a sex symbol.Instead I think the community as a whole should be willing to respect them for who they are and should realize that Nursing is a different profession than Medicine...& that Dr.s and nurses work collaboratively for the treatment of their patients...& Nurses have their own IDENTITIES.
And to make the ppl. aware the media should portray the positive image of nursing also!!

"There are nursing schools and colleges opening up as though they were mushrooms on the northern slopes of the Himalayas. Furthermore, the cost of nursing education has forced many female nurses to open up "clinics" in rural areas that are not regulated and it is quite likely that they do not provide good medial services. Thus, there is a need to revisit the whole issue of nursing education in Nepal." Agree with u!! So much could be done if only many of the nurses stoped bitching each other & worked in unity to overcome their setbacks. Unfortunately it is absent!! But among all thes hurdles, confusions & bitchiness...one shouldnot forget those noble nurses/aspiring nurses who are not only compassionate but intelligent & professional as well!!

Sorry if it offended neone. Had no intentions.

My opinion about nurses in america
-when I hear the word "nurse", what I see is a person with a fake smile on his/her face who will pretend to treat his/her patient well if the patient is rich and has some family member around.
-Smoker
-a person who thinks he/she (mostly she) is all that smart to go a community college for about two years. a person with a really bad attitude.
there are many more but i'll sop here. you got the idea. didn't you?
