Dear alll, The Second Session of Kathmandu Chinese-Language Table will take place at: Himalayan Java Coffee House in Thamel On Sunday at 4 pm, Oct. 27. Students who are learning Chinese (initial to advanced levels) are welcome. You pay for your own coffee. Gagan Pradhan, the owner of Java, says that he will deck the table with Chinese knick-knacks . . . so the whole thing will have a somewhat Chinese feel, whatever that is. The session will be led by Trailokya Aryal, who has a degree in Chinese studies (with an emphasis on international relations) from Claremont McKenna College in California. Trailokya also spent time studying in China on a study-abroad program. Participating will also be Mr. N.K. Joshi, an instructor in Chinese Language at Kathmandu's Biswo Bhasa Campus. Mr. Joshi holds an advanced diploma in the teaching of Chinese language from the University of Beijing (or Beida), which, I understand, is most prestigious and the most difficult-to-get-in university in that next-door-neighbor of 1.3 billion people. oohi ashu ktm,.nepal

A correction: Our Chinese guru Trailokya Aryal attened Pitzer College and NOT Claremont McKenna College as stated earlier. Both colleges are in California, and make up The Claremont Colleges. From the Web site: http://www.claremont.edu/about.html "The Claremont Colleges are a cluster of five undergraduate colleges and two graduate schools on adjoining campuses. Each is independent, with its own faculty, student body, administration, and curricular emphasis. However, each is enriched by the presence of all the others. The Claremont Colleges also combine efforts to provide many services, programs and facilities which help accomplish the group's common goals." IF-ji, If there are people who wish to set up an Esperatnto Table, sure, they can set up such a Table at Java or elsewhere. I, for one, am interested in French and Chinese and NOT in Esperatnto :-) oohi ashu ktm, nepal

Hi all, The Chinese language Table: Session II went really well. Encouraged y the success of the last two sessions, the THIRD session is scheduled for this coming Sunday, November 10 at 4 pm at Himalyan Java in Thamel. Mr. N. K. Joshi, an instructor at Kathmandu's Biswo Bhasa Campus will be joining us again, and so will a few of my classmates from Biswo Bhasa Campus (early morning language shift.) Anyone with some Chinese bhasa knowledge is WELCOME to join us to practice their spoken Chinese. As they say, there must be something in that language spoken by more than 1.3 billion people :-) oohi ashu ktm, nepal

Congratulation for the success of The Chinese language Table: Session II! Ashuji wrote: “As they say, there must be something in that language spoken by more than 1.3 billion people :-)” There must be something because of spoken by 1.3 billion people? Or, because of ancient language? Or, because of unscientific (in my view) written language? Or, because of one of U.N. languages? Or, because of suitable for cave dwellers (as far as written form is concerned) ? Or, because of hundreds of characters for the same sound? Or, because of nearly 100,000 different alphabets (characters)? Or, because of lack of enough grammar? ??? Whatever is the reason, I have a complaint against the site admin, because he seems biased. May be he knows Ashuji personally and therefore a little bit bias is human. This thread should be in USERGROUPS… (This is my personal view, what do other Sajhabasis think?)
