What a triumphant day for Astro-physicists. The student at the U-Texas, Austin evidenced the black hole's gravity pulling a part of a star. If his interpretation is right, it is a great proof of all the physical laws concerning the gravity and everything else. The existence of black hole is strongly supported by this phenomenon. For layman, black hole is a massive heavenly objects so dense that their intense gravitational field can attract and literally suck in everything, including light. DWI, this sure looks interesting.--the fact that stars can be swallowed-- and that it could be a breakthrough in science. How about if Ma,the researcher, goes on to prove that the particular blackhole he is observing-- which grows in density as it absorbs stars to being--keeps on expanding as he is keeping a close eye on it [using the specrtal images] over the next couple of years. It should definitely be exciting for him and for the discipline of physics in particular . That a blackhole is so dense that it ends up attracting more stars, and doesn't even allow light to escape, is something that has always confounded me. And one can just note that at this particular stage, the appearance (of this object) is not black at all-an oxymoron-on the contrary, rather bright and radiant. Let's see how this development unfolds...

Be aware. Turn your gaze to the earth. Still closer to your home land. There is a black hole (corrupt leaders and institutions) eating stars (democray) in Nepal.

Nice comments Protean. I think black hole is actually expanding and growing in its density. I don't know if that is the end or something happens to the black hole after a certain amount of time...or when certain entropy is reached. The appearance of the black hole that you mentioned, wouldn't that be the apperance of the lights going 'in' the black hole? I think that's what it is, as the black hole on itself won't have any appearance..not even light can escape it.

DWI, you;re right. The supposed "blackhole" is getting more compact every day. The term is called so , as you had indicated earlier, owing to light not escaping from this object. That Ma must be getting excited!! I was just trying to make a light remark on it by mentioning ,why it was not so dark. Yes, as it is of gargantuan density, it is able to attract objects, and can even engulf stars, as shown. No wonder, the lights and dazzle were to be seen. Nice posting DWI. Keep us in the loop!
