Ani, kaalimati ma gwaracha ko bhatti ma Ruslan vodka kachila ka saath, ani back home, ani sleep.
Sakshi, Malai Dai nabhana hai, Bharkhar ta kurkure baisha aa cha aafno, tysma pani dai re. And i am not in the mood to give dakshina to anyone. digest my rudeness.

Blessed with two sisters--one older and the other younger--and yet having missed the last 13 bhai tikas, tihars have come to mean as much to me as to those with no sisters. Perhaps a couple of parties, taas, kouda and some Laxmi puja...that's all there is to me this Tihar.

I was deeply moved by your poem. Although I must admit I didn't understand some of the sublime Nepali words that much, I could feel the meanings and intentions embedded in them. Your sister is indeed fortunate to have a brother like you to dedicate a poem in loving memory of your mutual love.
Indeed, circumstances often do not permit us to carry our heart's desires. But memories, though they may bring us tears, are not without their share of joy. Am reminded of a few lines from a song:
Duniya ki yeh bagiya aisi
Jitne kaante hai phool bhi utne
Daaman me khud aajaenge
Jin ki taraf tu haath pasare.

No language is superior than any other, and neither is it more beautiful. I love the Nepali language, but was not exposed much to the literature. I remember reading poems as a girl, though. I can only wish I could comprehend the beautiful words in our language more. :(
For now, I can only feel their sublime connotations. And to feel them is in itself being able to delve into them, well, on some metaphorical level, hoina ta?

Simple gal ! bichma janne bha hoina.....take a simple class of neplaese language in DC if you live around.......contact PURU dai. I think it is free......:)
Also read more nepalese short stories, novels, and poems, underline the word that you do not undersatand, make a list , bring it to sajha....
For example, words like thekki, doko, khurpi, harpe,pidhi, chota, are not very commonly used , unless you are in a village.

Babita Maili Lama
When Babita Maili Lama was 21, her infant daughter became very ill. Her husband was away at work, so she sought help from a family acquaintance to take her to a doctor. On the way, he drugged her and sold her to a brothel in Bombay, India. They took her daughter and told her that her child would be killed if she did not work as a prostitute. She spent more than two years, in wretched conditions, servicing up to 20 men a day while her daughter was held hostage.
Each year, thousands of Nepali girls, most under the age of 16, are abducted or coerced into forced prostitution. They are tortured, beaten, and live in fear for their lives if they try to escape. Brothel owners often bribe the police to "look the other way".
Ms. Lama and her daughter escaped and returned to her homeland with the help of the Nepali organization Maiti Nepal. While most rescued girls are shunned by their families and villages, Ms. Lama's husband and family have stood by her. Instead of trying to forget the nightmare, Ms. Lama decided to fight back. She, along with her husband, went to work with Maiti Nepal to rescue other young victims. Despite constant harassment and threats from Pimps and Madams, Ms. Lama now walks the Red Light District in Mumbai to locate brothels with young Nepali girls. She works to gain their trust and to help them escape. So far, more than 100 girls have been rescued. Ms. Lama also works with Maiti Nepal to counsel rescued girls and to help them get back their lives.

Silently they walk into the room, hesitant, apprehensive. Pray for him? Unfamiliar roles, decreed by a date on the calendar.
The oil lamps sputter to life. Water splashes, a steady drip on the oval sacred ground.
He gazes at the floor, wishing he could be far away from the maelstrom that passed for life. Could one ritual forge a family? They were compelled to be there too: ‘You will wish each other well this day’ went the diktat.
Another day, another time, a stranger in a strange land. A decade gone by, nephews and nieces never seen or held. Monopoly, anyone? Would they be tearful when they ‘go to jail’ or jump for joy on buying ‘Piccadilly circle?’
Far away on a sunny morn, he knows she steps out into the garden to run her eye over the flower beds. Yes, the spiniest ones for his garland. She smiles, what faces he made with those spiky leaves on his skin.
Winter gains in strength, the storms will be fierce its said. Will he live to see the spring again?
Light the lamps for him this year. He means it when he bows this time. He wants to come home.
