SITARA Posted on 27-Oct-02 04:33 PM

She was Fate's bride; against his will.

"Beware!", Fate had warned her as he quietly gazed upon her upturned excited face. "Beware, for I am unpredictable! touch me only if you want to be scarred for life! Kiss me only if you want the intoxicating kiss of death!". Defiant, she was as her name;as she jutted her chin out, raised an eyebrow and tossed her hair at his stark warning. Defiance, wanted him... at the risk of death, of pain, of treacherous grounds and even at the risk of losing him. She was innocence personified; unudulterated pure energy of faith. She, was suffused with ignorant optimism, as she vowed that she would flirt with the devil himself, dance on shards of glass and jump off a cliff IF she could woo Fate into her arms. For Fate was irrisistible; he seemed to haunt her, taunt her and almost seduce her into overstepping her cultural boundaries imposed by her birth.

Fate was the fatal Fire that Defiance radiated toward......... For, only He knew she would be destroyed by her own attraction. He was her destiny; a consequence of defiance!

She stood perched at the chiff's edge holding her lover's hand, breathlessly waiting to take the plunge into free falling. As she looked into his eyes, she refused to acknowledge the dark foreboding, reluctance and danger in his intense eyes.

As she closed her eyes and inhaled deeply, she stepped off the cliff dragging her lover with her. As Defiance spiralled down through the ether, her memories of life, births and deaths whirled around, her merging into one instance of amnesia....a blissful amnesia!

Defiance's groom he was, as he softly touched her sleeping face... as he cradled her nubile body..... and slowly planted a long last kiss on her forehead. It was that moment in time when the past and the future merges into one timelessness that FATE chose to leave without a backward glance.

Fate's bride now, no longer, she slowly trudged up the very same cliff, with an empty heart, lead feet and dragging soles. She stood once more where she had once been. No longer defiant was she...she was wisdom personified, suffused with pride.... standing straight, calm, serene and unwavering.....and yet Alone!

As she stepped off the cliff in deliberation, She was Fate's widow...experienced, mellowed and unembittered by her past....independent of her destiny, aware of her present and mindful of her future!

She was the Phoenix rising!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Written for all Nepalese women stigmatized by cultural and social "norms"!

In Peace! :)

Sitara,

Brilliant work! It felt like I was reading Milton's "Paradise Lost" and Dante's "Inferno" at the same time! Imagine the double bliss in that. Excellent use of diction, imagery, and personification. Keep it up.

The last line was particularly vivid. Thanks. To my mind at least, it relates well in the context of Shrisha Karki's tragic suicide. She is indeed a phoenix rising--in more ways than the mythical bird. Good bless her soul.

In peace.
slipknot Posted on 27-Oct-02 06:43 PM

Sitara ji:

You write with passion. With baffling ease, you can portray life in its fullest, giving strength to people sapped of zing, showing directions to those with clouded minds, and provoking a sense of healthy challenge to those with wits. This piece of your writing, to me, is a blend of hindu reincarnation, the resurrection of christ, and the enlightenment of buddha; it brings out in people an innate but often subdued capacity to reason with oddities in life, to survive, and to move towards the purpose of life. Hoping to catch more glimpses of your thoughts as they materialize in writing, I remain.

Sincerely,
Slipknot

Exquisite !

One in my family faced it and I watched it in frustration and anger. Yet she dared to fly again, higher and farther than ever before.

Sitara, you dared to express the sentiments of those that can not speak, of matters society deliberately turns a deaf ear to.

Bravo !

Yes Sitara jyu, you are abosolutely correct..I am a new comer here..I feel this is the time to introduce myself if Sitara jyu doesn't mind on her thread..I am looking foward to reading those interesting and beautiful articles as yours throughout my stay in Sajha..and I am sure its going to be for a long long time..Though posting is definitely not my expertise but I am sure to be reading those long and very challenging observations and lots and lots of other articles....

I will certainly be commenting on the pros and cons of the writing..and expect them to be commented on both sides..bcoz I dont just illustrate the merit side of it but the demerit as well, though I know this might cause some of my fellow companions to turn their back against me but it will definitely not be my intention to do that...I hope that will be of some help to our fellow sajha intellects, though my comments are but a mere thought...

Once again, Sitara jyu, I am very greatful to you for letting me introduce myself in your beautiful thread and I hope my introduction will not hamper the excellent comments you are receiving for your hard work and intellegentia...

Good luck on your future endeavours...

Best Wishes,
Krishna..
Nepe Posted on 29-Oct-02 12:30 PM

Sitara,

I must admit I did not read this piece when I saw it first time thinking that it is probably some grandiloquent word play so I can put it in my 'to be read later' list. However, when I read it, after praises started to pour in, I was deeply moved. It filled me with inspiration, hope, longing and anguish at the same time. You wrote it for Nepalese women stigmatized by cultural and social "norms"! But one can immediately recognize the universal appeal of it. I strongly feel that this piece equally addresses the so called mainstream Nepali intellectuals- particularly those self-defeated, dreamless Realists who are not budging an inch to give room to dreams of the "Fate's widows".

Sitara, keep holding the tourch. Its time to talk about the disillusion of the "Fate's brides" with their honeymoons there are not.

Nepe the dreamer and yes "Fate's widow" too.

I thought the dot (bindu) was meaningful to you...
Here's my another JPT;)

The dot I jotted down
was my wordless praise
for your brilliant work;
for your shrewd imagination.

The dot I jotted down
was a speck of RUST
for wretched Defiant;
for the doom she stumbled upon

The dot I jotted down
was to END the deluge of tears
for a love without any lover;
for ‘ a widow without any widower’.

The dot I jotted down
was a finale
for your epic words;
for your sensitive message
to us and our culture.

Hi Sitara,

Nice Story! :)

But I don't agree when you say that Nepalese women 'are' stigmatized by cultural and social "norms"! I think that it is a very biased comment. Do we the Nepali men in general characterize the nepali women as disgraceful or think of them as causing shame to all Nepalis?

Well if so then aren't the women (Whose postings show ample proof of their disregard of the prestidge of Nepali men) to be blamed too. Then does this not make for a mutual disrespect and hatred. Then why sympathize only the women? Because you are too??

;) Justa a couple of thoughts!
SITARA Posted on 31-Oct-02 03:26 PM

Biruwa ji

Thank you for your "thoughts"; you are entitled to them. You have missed much....but that is ok, happens!

We seem to be having communication problems, yet again... :(

What happened to the "black hole" that ate many stars and thus was brilliant in its radiance? ;)
Biruwa Posted on 31-Oct-02 05:57 PM

huh! communication problems yet again? Thought I understood what u wanted to say :(

Ke garnu tapai ko jasto photographic memory nabayera, kya bore! ;)

Any way, San le Villian khelyo ke garne? Aru "black hole" ta lyauna sakthen tara bekarma kina kich kich banera ni!
