Sagarmatha TV; Nepali culture in America

KATHMANDU, Oct 27
Jayakali Cine Art Pvt Ltd honoured Ram Chandra Kharel founder of Sagarmatha Television in a function here today. Kharel established the TV station in the USA as a medium to introduce Nepali art and culture to Americans.
Jaykali honoured Kharel during a discussion programme entitled ‘Nepali movies in the World Market and the contribution of Sagarmatha Television.’
Highlighting the importance of Sagarmatha Television and Kharel’s struggle to establish the station, station representative Guna Raj Luitel said, "The station has succeed in becoming a mouth piece of Nepali art and culture in the foreign land."
Addressing the function Ram Chandra Kharel said that the audience (both Nepalis and Americans) living there are very much interested in Nepali songs and documentaries. "We have tried our best to inform the audience about the latest news of Nepal in every field," he said.
The main aim of this station is to introduce Nepal and Nepali culture to the world, to attract tourists to Nepal through attractive programmes and to inform viewers about Nepal and Nepali communities living in other parts of the world, Kharel said.
Sagarmatha Television was first aired in 1997 through World View TV, a popular television network in the US.
Former secretary of the communication and information ministry Dhana Nath Ojha said, "He is working as an ambassador on the community level. Only culture can give our real identity in foreign countries, which Kharel is trying to introduce."
