Hi, Has anyone thought of what could happen if the Maoists win the war in Nepal? Here is a nice article if you have time.Refer to the following web link http://www.counterpunch.org/leupp1021.html

I am glad you posted this link. A credible proposition. And looks like a fine alternate website as well.

"Sometimes, in humankind's endless quest to overcome suffering, wildly ambitious enterprises actually succeed." Spreading Buddhism was one thing. Communism to rise again is something else. A counterfactual: If the constitution of Nepal had not preserved monarchical power in a reserve doman, if the royal affair had been brought under democratic practices subject to parliamentary review, would we even have Moaist isurgency today? So, in failure to do the right thing when we had the opportunity, we set up ourselves for a grave future. Maybe this is a lesson for all of us to stand up for our conviction, and social justice.

I noticed that Mr. Leupp has never been to Nepal, can not spell name of the PM and King correctly and is trying to base his predictions on reports from Papers. Few points: There is a great fuss about Maoist controlling 2/3rd of the country. Then why don't they show some development activites in those places? They control the ruin!! Is the Monarch problem for them or the democracy? Had Monarch been the problem what were they doing during Panchayat? Why are other Maoist still fighting in India, Phillipines and elsewhere where there is already Republican state in place? Why don't they say openly that they are against democracy? If even China is shedding MAOISM, MARXISM, LENINISM and for the better of course, then why on earth do we need these? The only reason is those top brass MAOIST and person like G. LEUPP think that NEPAL IS GOOD PLACE TO EXPERIMENT THOSE MEDIEVAL IDEAS. Jaya Hos

Leupp was never in Nepal. I guess he may not be able to locate if a plane globe is given to him, without national borderlines, but, only with land and water demarcation lines. He is a propaganda machine. He probably has someone idiot Nepali students who want to be US citizen but want Nepal to have Maoist state. Can someone locate who the hell is working under him at Tufts University.

Leupp writes such bogus and imaginary explanations: The King of Bhutan and Prime Minister of Bangladesh might want to look at what happened to the entire Royal Family of Nepal last June when the late King decided to negotiate with leftist guerrillas rather than fight them. According to unblemished sources in Kathmandu, the king and his family were quickly dispatched by a Nepali army commando unit trained at the time by U.S. Special Operations forces sent by US Pacific Commander in Chief Adm. Dennis Blair (he's the same guy who propped up Gen. Wiranto with special training while the good general was committing genocide in East Timor).
