Dear Friends,

As you are all aware, the catastrophic landslide in Nepal during the month of September took the lives of hundreds of people and destroyed their habitat thus causing enormous pain to the victims back home.

In an attempt to help the victims who have been suffering due to the damages, the Nepalese community of MN is organizing a cultural program here in the twin cities and the sole purpose of this program is to raise funds for the family members of those who perished. We as concerned citizens living abroad would like to show our fellow Nepalese back home that we care about them. The funds will be donated to Nepal Red Cross Society. You are more than welcome to be a part of this important event full of different items of entertainment that will be brought to you by students from the following Universities:

Bemidji State University
College of St. Catherine
Metropolitan State University
Minnesota State University, Mankato
St. Cloud State University
St. Thomas University
University of MN

Those who will not be able to attend but would like to contribute by donating funds please contact me for more information. Please check out the following link for more details about the upcoming cultural program.

Thank you for your support!

Great idea Dilaksha!

Such a gesture is a testament that Nepalis living outside Nepal are empathetic to causes in Nepal. Though far away, they seem to be near at heart(to Nepal).
I gather that all these colleges and Universities are going to be involved in this relief effort. That's the way to go. Keep up this spirit!

Couple of suggestions for your cause:

1. Start a relief fund pledge (with "make checks payable to Nepal flood , and send checks to the address...)

2. Try to see if payments online are possible

3. Start this drive in work places where the Nepalis are situated

4. Definitely include donation boxes at this event and at other places (where it might be of use).

5. Once you get 1,2 sorted out ,send emails to all friends, and web site admins where like minded Nepalis frequent.

Some people in Northern California started a Relief Drive in late June ,and were very succesful in this effort.

Hoping that it may give you some insights, I'm attaching a summary of how they raised the funds, and how it was initiated. Hope this helps!

Good luck with the Drive!

Protean ji, thank you for the wonderful suggestions. It was indeed nice of you to provide those. Yes, I have heard about the CA activities and a friend who recently moved here from the bay area mentioned to me about the pledges from those companies. We are using the same idea here too. Once again thank you very much.

And Jira ji! tapainle dherai palta Atwood lounge ma "dhussa" suteko dekhera those people had to remove the whole lounge because of bad influence to other students! :) Actually it's still there right in front of the art gallery. I guess only the settee must have changed. As for the "bhoot" in Shoemaker, they said that it's still haunted but i don't know how it is now. and I lived in Sherburne on the 14th floor and boy did that suck esp. during those false alarms! anyway glad to know that you too are an scsu'ian!
