pretty cool. I remember Mech E. profs @ MIT recruiting students to work on this project in the early 90s. Back then, the emphasis was on merely producing the sensation of "feeling" a 3D object you would see on a computer display [sort of connecting the visual and touch (feeling) senses ]. I guess the "experiment" has now gone transatlantic and beyond :) Does seem pretty cool! |

I really don't find it too exciting. You could just send some bits via the computer wire and hook it to a frequency ampliflier ( a simple op-amp chip circuit). So for a small code sent from one end, the other end could translate it to a larger band of frequency and vibrate (like a pager). The more you would increase in one end, the more you'd get it on the other..giving the sensation of actually manipulating the other end. Their idea is more complex, but doesn't it serve the similar purpose? The good thing about their idea is we can build more complex things from there. Imagine one day, people punching their enemies via computer. I know a lots of Sajhaites wanna do that to fellow Sajhaites :) |
