Former Ministers Khadka and Gupta arrested KOL Report (posted at 20.00 NST) KATHMANDU, Oct 30 – The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested former Home Minister Khum Bahadur Khadka and the former Minister for Information and Communications Jayaprakash Prasad Gupta on charges of accepting bribes and embezzling millions of Rupees while ministers. The arrest followed several days of questioning by the CIAA and charged atmosphere outside the CIAA office at Babarmahal in Kathmandu. The commission had question both the minister several times over the last month. Sources said the CIAA action on the former minister Khadka centred around two projects – The Bakraha River Control Project and the construction of Rapti River bridge. Some Rs. 110 million is said to have been embezzled from the two projects. It is also thought that several people had shared the embezzled amount. Meanwhile, former minister Gupta was arrested on charges of accepting graft while issuing broadcasting rights to private television stations as well as corruption on the import of mobile phones and telecommunication equipment. Our correspondent at the scene Yubaraj Acharya reports that the atmosphere was charged outside the CIAA building as Khadka was being questioned. About a hundred supporters of the former minister had surrounded the building and that there was heavy police presence. The supporters followed the van taking the former minister to an undisclosed location chanting slogans like “long live Khum Bahadur Khadka.” On Tuesday, Khadka’s supporters had jostled journalists trying to speak with him over the questioning by the CIAA. It is thought that the two men are currently being held at Mahendra Police Club. The arrests also bring to an end the long running speculation in Kathmandu on course of action the CIAA might take against the alleged corrupt ministers. (rk)

It seems that CIAA is now really doing a good thing by arresting these Ghusaiyaharu. This act should be welcomed as an effort to control corruption right from the top-level. Tons of kudos to Surya Nath Upadhyaya and other CIAA people. I think this arrest will have a symbolic significance in controlling corruption. All the political leaders who amassed a large chunk of money after holding different posts over the last 12 years should not be left whatever party they belong. What do you folks think about this. hehe

Brother, you will hear here in this forum a hue and cry over the arrest. Some will come and tell you that its a grand design. What this iXY camera is surprised is that why the hell these freedom fighter "SO CALLED" indulged in Ghus Khori? Who asked them to be ghusyaha?
