My Father… Why are you always so simple and selfless, my Father? Are you not just a human like me and brother? Why were we your priorities? When you had numerous chores to see…. You are the writer for all our success Thus you invested all your precious life and dime in us From our joys and felicity, you always drew pride In times of struggle, you stood by our side When failures knocked the door, you taught us how to cope Then lit those candles of assurance and hope Now we realize why you taught us to fish Instead of quietly fulfilling our wish…. Those were the ways you guaranteed our freedom Independent as we stand today in God's kingdom…. Your feat reflects the sanctity of your soul You’ve always inspired us in achieving our goal Get Well Soon Baba!! Ruck....

Ruck ji, My warmest wishes for your father's recovery. I'm so glad you wrote this poem. Reminds us all of what daddies do for their children!! If you don't mind, I am posting a beautiful song that I heard once. At times like this, it's the memories of what they do for us that gives us strength. I hope this song, as it does for me, help you through this trying time and see you through to your father's wellness. (This is dedicated to all parents): Yeh to sach hai ke bhagwan hai Hai magar phir bhi anjaan hai Dharti pe rup maa baap ka Uss vidhata ki pehchhan hai. Janma data hai jo Naam jinse mila Thamkar jinkii ungli hai bachpan chala Kandhe pe baethkar jinke dekha jahan Gyan jinse mila kya bura kya bhala Itne upkar hain kya kahein Yeh batana na aasan hai Dharti pe rup maa baap ka Uss vidhata ki pehchaan hai. Janma deti hai jo Maa jisey jag kahe Apni santaan me Pran jiske rahen Loriya hothon par Sapney bunti nazar Nind jo var dey Hass ke har dukh sahey Mamta ke rup me hai prabhu Aap se paya vardaan hai Dharti pe rup maa baap ka Uss vidhata ki pehchaan hai. Aap ke khwab hum Aaj hokar jawan Uss param shakti se karte hain prarthana Inki chhaya rahe Rahe duniya talak Ek pal na rahe Hum to jiske bina Aap dono salaamat rahein Sabke dil me yeh armaan hain Dharti pe rup maa baap ka Uss vidhata ki pehchaan hai. In peace and prayers to your father, Ruckji! SimpleGal

I am so happy that everyone liked the song. It's a heartwarming song from the movie Hum Saath Saath Hain. And therefore NOT my own creation! Dhumbassji, I was born in Nepal, brought up in different countries. :) I have diverse interests, and among them is an immense love of Hindi songs, esp. old ones. While we're talking about Dads, just wanted to say that my dear daddy calls me a "prisoner of the past!" :) Agree with Poonteji that the role of the father has been quite diminished in popular culture. Thanks Ruckji for reminding us all of dear father! Your father must be so proud of you, in more ways than you may realize and for reasons that he may not always be able to tell you!

Ruck, this is a great creation. It's good to learn that you're the fount of creativity and positivity. Hope this festival of lights, love, and warmth, improves your fathers' health conditions. Times are such that there is an urgent need for such displays of positive energy and rekindling of love. Wow, this is making me nostalgic and espceicailly during these festive times when the family bonding gets more of an opportunity. The simplicity with which you exhibit your love, and appreciation of your father in this poem, is exemplary and powerful. As the posters to this thread have noted, this is simply really touching! I think we should take this time to also remember all those that have lost their dear fathers in the current crisis in our country. They must also have longed for their fathers to show them the way to the future. These children must be at grief and terrible loss now. I will take this opportunity during Tihar to wish these children the best for their future , and see to it how we might be able to help them to a certain degree (just as Ruck started the thread of the least we can do for Nepal). Before this I would like to wish you the best in this Tihar and may this season bring you the best in you!! Now, to add my own version of poetry into Ruck's and Simplegalji's edition: How much you love us even when we are far away even when we want to run away into a far far place to find solace Why do you need to be so caring When you already know that your children are so daring Is it because you can't get to see us hurt of is it because you want us to do the best ? Why do I aspire to be like thee When I know I can't be You give us hope when we see none You show us path that we've never dared to turn when we thought we should quit and run You're the light that burns during the dark and the one who made us fight for the right cause You're the one who taught us to live life with passion and follow our instincts to do the right things even if not in fashion You've always been there for us and will be but I sometimes wonder how I'll prove to you my undying love

Dear Protean, I wish you a very happy Bhai Tika!! Great poem indeed. Your parents are sure lucky to have a son like you ( no kidding here) you remembering all the children who've lost their fathers in the crises is sobering. Let us all pray for peace and prosperity in our homes and the country. I hope this festival of lights shines upon the consciences of the "Maobadis" and makes them follow the path of "non violence". Wish you all a very happy tihar !! Ruck

Ruck, nice poem indeed. Wishing well and all the best for thy father. I wish I could say the same about mine, but I wasn't that fortunate of a son. Dunno how relevant the following lines would be to your poem, but felt like adding on : "Daddy's gone, cross the ocean leaving just his memories a snapshot in the family album, Daddy, what else did you leave behind for me? All in all it's just another brick in the wall." peace!!!!

Utterly venerating ode to a father, what respect for a father! A touchy one. Dear Ruck ji, We hear echos of our own feelings of gratitude towards our father, for who they are and what they are. hail to the fathers ! ------------------------------------------------------------ Slipnot ji, "ode to my family" by Cranberries happens to be one of my favourites. A solemn and genuinely melancholy song. regards, lamachaur.

Ruck, this is just a beautiful song about relationship between a son and his father, and how we should try to make amends before it's too late. I wish your baba speedy recovery. You've heartfelt tribute to your dad was quite remarkable. Happy Laxmi Puja and Bhai Tika to you!!! "The Living Years"by Mike & The Mechanics , which is about losing one's father before having the chance to say what's in one's heart, was written right around the time both Mike Rutherford and B.A. Robertson lost their fathers. As a matter of fact, B.A. received the news of his father's passing away while he was at Mike Rutherford's house writing the track. The songs' inspiration was then beautifully delivered by a heartfelt, emotional lead vocal from Paul Carrack. Carrack, you may recall is the great voice behind such hits as "How Long" by Ace, "Tempted" by Squeeze, and "Silent Running", which appeared on the first Mike & The Mechanics album. The Living Years...Mike and the Mechanics Every generation Blames the one before And all of their frustrations Come beating on your door I know that I'm a prisoner To all my Father held so dear I know that I'm a hostage To all his hopes and fears I just wish I could have told him in the living years Crumpled bits of paper Filled with imperfect thought Stilted conversations I'm afraid that's all we've got You say you just don't see it He says it's perfect sense You just can't get agreement In this present tense We all talk a different language Talking in defence Say it loud, say it clear You can listen as well as you hear It's too late when we die To admit we don't see eye to eye So we open up a quarrel Between the present and the past We only sacrifice the future It's the bitterness that lasts So Don't yield to the fortunes You sometimes see as fate It may have a new perspective On a different day And if you don't give up, and don't give in You may just be O.K. Say it loud, say it clear You can listen as well as you hear It's too late when we die To admit we don't see eye to eye I wasn't there that morning When my Father passed away I didn't get to tell him All the things I had to say I think I caught his spirit Later that same year I'm sure I heard his echo In my baby's new born tears I just wish I could have told him in the living years Say it loud, say it clear You can listen as well as you hear It's too late when we die To admit we don't see eye to eye --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
