GYNANENDRA IS PLAYING PETTY POLITICS King to PM: Check ‘yellow journalism’ KOL Report KATHMANDU, Nov 1 - His Majesty King Gyanendra on Thursday has asked PM Lokendra Bahadur Chand to initiate necessary steps to make changes in the existing press and publication laws and control "yellow journalism". In a letter issued to Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand, which was in a response to a petition presented to the King by an agitation committee of film artistes formed in the immediate aftermath of the suicide scandal of actress Shreesha Karki, HM’s Chief Secretary Pashupatibhakta Maharjan has also asked to initiate legal action against those responsible for the death of the actress. A copy of the letter has also been issued to Bashundhara Bhusal, the chairperson of an agitation committee. The 24-year-old budding actress committed suicide two weeks ago after Jana-Astha, a vernacular tabloid, ran her nude photograph alongside a story about the private life of Kollywood artistes. Editor of the paper, Kishor Shrestha, has gone underground ever since. GYNANENDRA IS PLAYING PETTY POLITICS "I hereby inform you that I am writing this letter upon receiving orders from His Majesty to write to the Right Honorable Prime Minister and immediately initiate legal action (against the guilty) as per existent laws, as well as to take steps to make necessary changes in the laws," reads the copy of the letter, made available to Kantipur Online by Bhusal. Briefing Kantipur Online about the developments of the investigation on "Shreesha murder case", Tapendra Dhoj Hamal, the chief of the Kathmandu district police office, claimed that the police have found some important evidences. He added that the conclusion of the investigation would be made public very soon. (sjs/sm)
