Biswoji,
You are absolutly wrong .The success quote that Ashutosh had posted few days ago was written by Ralph Waldo Emerson NOT by Harry Emerson Fosdic.
For reference you can visit following sites:
http://www.math.luc.edu/~tobrien/poemsandsongs/success.html
http://www.columbia.edu/~sjp21/literarynf.html
http://www.inkspinners.com/quotable.html

To laugh often and much. To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children. To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty, to find the best of it in others. To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition. To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.

- Ralph Waldo Emerson (NOT Harry dai)

Nice try dude!
keep on writing...

Well,Ashuji.

This quote is by Harry Merson Fosdick, not
by Ralph Waldo Emerson.And this is very
famous quote also.

Here's an inspiring quote from Raplh Waldo Emerson, the philosopher, who used to walk around Harvard Square some 100-plus years ago.

"What is success?"

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of people and the affection of adults and children;

To earn the appreciation of honest critics, and
endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by healing a child or a garden
patch, or by redeeming a social condition,

To know even one life has breathed easier because you lived.

That is to have succeeded."

A faculty member in my school had put up this
quotation in his office, and the name there
is Harry Emerson.But as I am scouring other
resources,I feel doubtful about this.

Thanks alot Hariji for getting the pain of
looking at the veracity of my message.

Biswoji,
Doing research is always fun to me.
Frankly,Biswoji sometimes its not bad idea to accept the mistake.Read the hanging quote again and try to match it with web posting.Dose it match.Think twice before you say sth.

Oh Hariji:

I am quite receptive to the informed
criticism as that of yours.As you have also
pointed out,there are similar quotations from
those two people, and it looks like I ran
into Harry's.Living in Bible belt,it is
likely that I have more contact with the
quotation of a clergyman,rather than of a
secular philosopher(Ralph!).After labor day
holiday,I shall have a peek at the quotation
in the wall of my faculty here,and will
revise/reassert my assertion.

Thanks a lot for your informed reaction,man.

I think Biswoji already apologized for his mistake. All human beings make mistakes. What separates cool people from uncool ones is that the cool ones accept that they can be wrong. Don't be uncool and brood on the fact that you're so awesome.
harry Posted on 03-Sep-00 06:08 PM

By the way, if you're 'oh so absolutly' right, please learn to spell 'absolutely' correctly!
Biswo Posted on 03-Sep-00 06:53 PM

Harryji:

Thanks for distinguishing me among cool
ones.Appreciate it,sir.

As for quotation fracas,I think I have
surely put forward a reasoned apology.Still
the fact remains that I haven't myself
verified anything.I saw the quotation in the
wall of one faculty here, and wrote if Ashuji
were wrong.I am so grateful to everybody
whose religious watch prod us, and this web
site, in the path of truthfulness.appreciate
it ,man.

Folks::

Rather than converging on a point, I feel
obligated to exhort you guys to compare this
quotation that I found in the tablet of my
faculty(EXACTLY WRITTEN LIKE THIS) and the
one Ashuji sent.Obviously,somebody is wrong
here.
::

A definition of success
To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and affection of children;
to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of
false friends;
to appreciate beauty;
to find the best in others;
to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden
patch, or redeemed social condition;
to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived.
This is to have succeeded.

Biswoji,
Thank you your response.
I shocked to hear that you found the quote excatly same written under Fosdick's name.I remained firmed on previous posting.It was written by Ralph Waldo Emerson.Once again for reference you can visit sites below:

http://www.columbia.edu/~sjp21/literarynf.html

Both were similar but Ralph is more accurate.
Are you trying to they copied each other.May be I don't think so.

Life time of these two people:

1.Ralph Waldo Emerson:(1803-1882)
2.Harry Emerson Fosdic:(1878-1969)

The likelihood that Ralph Waldo Emerson
plagiarized Harry's quotation is slim.So,
looks like Harry expanded upon Ralph's
quotation in his serene homilectic from the
ministry pulpit of New York.

Thanks guys.
hari Posted on 10-Sep-00 07:23 PM

This sounds more amicable.
But still posting is more accurate to Ralph than Harry.Just pointing where we started at.
