Also when i suggested trekking to muktinath, i did not mean taking 18 pangre up there, oh, come on mitra. Tetti pani trust nagarne bhanya. I like the idea of flying to Jomsom but don't want to give up the majestic view that starts in Baglung and continues up....of those gorgeous water falls, rivers, hills, jholunge pools, flora, faunas, ukali, oralis, dhungas and those small chiya pasals and hotels. As much as i like the jomsome hawa and apples, how about trekking from Baglung to Muktinath on our way up and farkanda, we will fly back from Jomsom. what d'ya think? >>> |

That original thread is stuck. I tried: it does not open up. San, if you happen by, will you please undo the knot there: Crisscrossing America On 18 Wheels? In the mean time, my work authorization card has been renewed, my license transferred and renewed: Class A CDL with HazMat endorsement. What that means is I can drive absolutely anything that moves on the road. What's nex, hawa gaadi? And I have been talking to this company in Florida. The southern states might be the better option for winter months. Oh, the possibility of coast to coast runs. I once did CA to NC. It was awesome. And I still have only three Sajhawasis who would like me to come see them. Is that all? As for Muglin, I hope to be there the winter after. Crisscrossing Nepal, after the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The soul of that original thread has migrated to this one started by Chiple. |

Just an update following Ashu's thread of the 3-day Nepal banda. Tyo bhagate khane plan pani yahi trip ma add garu ki kaso? I am proposing that we have a bhogate meeting on Thursday, November 28 at Mugling. Let's just meet at my Sarbottam Bhojan Hotel, then we will go down to the Trisuli and Marsyangdi ko dobhan. Ani dhunga ma basera twakka twakka pardai khaula ni hunna? Najar, ma ra Rusty ta chadaichau. Ani Ashu chahi hamro special guest. Paramendra pani auna paryo, ke southern states ko kura gariraheko? Ani isloated freak ra nepalikt lai pani nimto cha. Ani bepatta bhaeko Dilasha lai pani. All of you are most welcome to join us for a trek to Muktinath. Complimentary "special" dal bhat (like those served to the bus staff) will be provided to all of you. Then all three of us could head towards Mugling. I will be the designated driver. You and Rusty can sing Tractorai Ghumera. Don't tell my parents i am coming home, otherwise they want me to stay at home for a few days before heading for Mugling. Once in Mugling, we could have a grand sajha Bhogate Sandheko Party. Anepalikt pani nepali mai hunu hundo rahechha, ashu and IF are already there. I think Paschim is on his way. So alreay there are quite a few--any others we see, we can pick them up. Najar, bhaena yo ta. Trekking janay ray Muktinath samma, tyo pani one week max chutti? Ajha tesmathi pani chadhnu cha tractor. Let's say you arrive gauchar on the 27th (for which you have to leave the US on the 26th), Mugling on the 28th, and Galeswor on the 29th, and start trekking on the 30th. On a normal trekker's pace, you can expect to reach Tatopani on the 1st, Lete on the 2nd, Jomsom on the 3rd, and Muktinath on the 4th. Ani 5th ma Jomsom farkera 6th ma fly to Pokhara, and then to Gauchar. 7th ma US aipugyo ray, and allow another day to cure your sore foot and jet lag. Furthermore, add the time it takes you to reach Minnesota (presumably you are somewhere in the east) to pick up Dilasha, and then drive to Beverly Hills. You already need more than two weeks. If you do a marathon run, you may be able to shorten the trek by a day or two at most, but then not only you are going to miss the view but also you are risking altitude sickness. Furthermore, Jomsom bata bhaneko din ma flight paiela bhanne guarantee chaina. The only way you can make it to both Mugling and Muktinath in a week is to charter a helicopter from Pokhara to Muktinath, spend an hour or two there, and return to Pokhara the same morning (before it gets too windy to fly and/or you start showing symptoms of acute mountain sickness. Keep in mind that it is virtually impossible to fly in the upper Kali Gandaki Valley after 11 am due to strong winds. Also flying from Pokhara to Muktinath means that you are gaining an altitude of almost 3000 m in less than an hour, which makes you highly vulnerable to altitude sickness). There is a helipad just below the temple complex. If you take this option, the only "trekking" you will be doing is climbing the stairs to the temple complex which is not even half of Swayambhu ko ukalo. Aba ali ramro sanga trekking garne ho bhane either you have to take a longer leave or the trip has to be postponed. Even following the itinerary I proposed on the top praragraph, it would be advisable to add another two days, to allow enough time to explore the monastries of Tukuche and Marpha, enjoy a relaxed evening with a few sips of Marpha ko Apple Brandy, visit the Jomsom Eco Museum, explore Kagbeni (the most interesting village in Nepal I have visited so far) and also the fort at Jharkot. It may also be worthwhile considering not to fly from Jomsom to Pokhara but return to Tatopani and take a detour via Ghorepani and Ghandruk to Phedi. Add another week or so for this detour. Ajha Annapurna Sanctuary pani bhyae huncha, take another week for that. Ghorepani bhanda mathi Poon Hill bata dekhine sunrise must be the best sunrise I have seen in my life. You will be breathless and speechless as you see the changing colors of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Hiuchuli, and Annapurna South as the sun rises. Ghandruk and Chomrong are the most interesting Gurung villages,ani tyaha bata dekhine Hiuchuli, Annapurna South ra Machapuchre (then you will start saying: tyo Pokhara bata dekhine Machapuchre pani Machapuchre ho ra?) ko view pani kam chaina. Think of being surrounded by the prominent peaks of the Annapurnas in the base camp area. Imagine seeing that little stream at the Machapuchre Base Camp turn into a glacier as you follow it upstream towards the Annapurna Base Camp. Aba testo trek garna chodera ek hapta ko kura garne? Gare pachi majaa le garnu parcha trekking bhanne kura. Tesaile think again, ali laamo chutti milauna paryo. So Najar, ke cha ta timro bichar? What do the rest of you think? I will have to reschedule it with a FULL one month time in hand. Can't give up all those little charms that chiple has brought to my attention. Chiple, one more thing....thanks for such eloquent details. Impressive, truly!! I too, had a pleasure to trek to Muktinath a few years ago. We flew out to Jomsom from Pokhara, trekked up but on our way back walked all the way to Baglung. Priceless trek is all i have to say!!!Would love to do it again, this time with more time as you point out. Okay, I'll join you all. If we are short on time... let's reverse the itinerary, and fly to Jomsom... then: Kathmandu-Mugling-Pokhara on the 28th... of course stay in Mugling long enough, and don't forget to WALK across the bridge (the only way to really appreciate a bridge!) Remember to add a bit of extra time for army checkposts with vehicle/bag searches at Gajuri and somewhere in Lekhnath nagarpalika. Fly to Jomsom on the 29th, walk to Kagbeni, stay at Red House Lodge (most unique lodge, iwth its own gompa inside... enjoy the sunset over Nilgiri from the rooftop). Kagbeni-Muktinath on the 30th...(steepest uphill to Khinga before breakfast!), spend a few hours at the temple, but descend back to Jharkot before sunset to reduce the chance of altitude sickness (or even all the way to Khinga if you can!) 1st: early morning (pre-wind) walk to Jomsom, eat there, then walk on to Marpha, Tukche... all the way to Larjung or Kobang. 2nd: walk down to Dana (long walk!). 3rd: walk to Galeswor. 4th: get a ride back to Pokhara, then on to Kathmandu. 5th: fly back to hte US, arrive 6th. That's a day faster than Chiple's suggestion. Hey Chiple, remember in elementary school we used to make imaginary itineraries for dream-travels around Nepal, as well as "report" back to eachother what we found on our travels? |

Hey folks, it seems like we need to postpone our trip. Mero pani semester sakina lagyo, ali busy nai chu. Thanksgiving ma ek dharni turkey khaera padhna tira lagna parcha. Furthermore, Najar who first proposed the trip now says chutti chaina, and she has opted for baramasay with Trikal instead. Ashu, whom I had invited as a special guest is taking a break. Dilasha, esp for whom I was going to hire a tractor is also going to be underground for the next three months. Paramendra le pani southern states chodeko haina. Yeta ali garmi chadhna thale pachi ta chodla ki? Tyahi bhaera May tira garu na yo trip chahi, teti bela ta mero pani padhai sakincha hola. Aru ko pani summer ko chutti huncha ni. Let's try to make it a month long trip, and therefore please plan your vacations accordingly. We can combine Muktinath with the Annapurna Base Camp and/or the Annapurna Circuit trek. Malai pani Thorang La katne rahar cha. We need to complete the trip by mid June, before we get drenched by the monsoon rains and sucked by leeches. Arnico, I certainly remember those good old school days. Tyo nylon ko dori (officially used for "desh khelne") ko bus ma rubber ko ring (can't remember what the rings were officially used for) ko steering banaera driving (or rather running) on imaginary routes within the school premises. Our routes used to range from Kathmandu-Kankerbhitta on the legendary Rajdoot Super Express to Ratnapark-Lagankhel on minibuses. I particularly loved the little stretch between the "gymnastics" and the thulo chaur below, it served as a perfect mountain highway. What about carving roads using bricks on the baluwa ko thupro? Ke bho Najar lai? We will have Carlesberg at Mugling, Pokhara, and Tatopani ni hunna? If we trek via Galeswor and/or Birethanti, teta pani khae huncha though I prefer Tuborg and San Miguel. If available though, I would go for Star or Iceberg :) |
