Hindus to wear identity label in Islamic Afghanistan
By Amir Shah, Associated Press, 5/22/2001 09:22

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) Afghanistan's Taliban rulers already isolated by their harsh brand of Islam and poor treatment of women announced plans to make Hindus wear an identity label on their clothing to distinguish them from Muslims.

The hardline Taliban regime that controls 95 percent of this poor Central Asian state plans to enforce the edict soon, Mohammed Wali, religious police minister, told The Associated Press on Tuesday. An exact date was not set, he said.

The law will also make it mandatory for Hindu women to veil themselves just like Muslim women of Afghanistan, Wali said.

Well, that wraps up few remaining doubts about their intent
regarding the humanity and tolerance.

Though the decision is not implemented yet, in fact it is still
a moot subject within Taliban also, the decision can be a
prelogue to the ethnic cleansing in the offing. Until now,
Taliban has been accused of only heritage-smashing and barbaric
treatement of the fellow Moslems and ladies, now with this
announcement, it may be well starting ethnic cleansing.

Taliban came with bang and promise of better Afganistan. The
reality of statocracy defies the dream of utopic world of
five time Namaaz reading and beard keeping only. The Taliban
sadly never knew anything that could make Afganistant wealthy
and prosperous. They are bound to lose any remaining support
in their own country very soon, as they are failing to deliver
on their promise. While poor and dejected Afgans were forced to
shiver in the cold hungry days of winter, the rulers started
breaking the statues of Buddha, and in these hot summer days,
they are coming with new proclamation.

When dictators fail, they tend to drive the nation to a wild
and untenable dream or jolts so that the fellow countrymen forget
what to expect from their ruler. In the frustration of femine,
Mao led China to Cultural Revolution, in the inability and
instability within Iraq, Saddam led war-torn Iraq to Gulf war,
halfway through the long frustrating years of Panchayat, King
Birendra proclaimed an irrational and vaguely defined goal of
leading Nepal to Asian Standard, and we know all other examples
of Castro or even Girija.
