Dedicated to that special person whose thoughts singularly occupied my mind all of yesterday, on a crisp day with jovial music and people chatting pleasantly! :)

"Simple Feelings"

A soft glow colored your face, I hear
Spreading, flowing, rising like
Clouds in the sky on a summer day--
Clouds are white, so how could they
Paint the sky in shades
Your face alone creates—-
Gentle hues that nature meant
Solely, secretly only
To adorn the pleasures
To hide the pain
That you so beautifully disclose—-
Unaware yourself; but
Not hidden from eyes
That see beyond the surface
What, I cannot yet name
But it is deeper than
The clouds, the forest, the rain.

I will not surmise
What the glow belies
I may say one thing
You another
And paint with our own colors
That mar--brushing streaks
Slicing, splashing, slashing
Smudges that jar
The gentleness with which
Nature crafted the colors
That rise and fade
With each feeling--
Like undulations in the sea
Serene, sparkling, sardonic.
But I will not surmise
What the glow belies
I may say one thing
You another--
And all the while
Simple feelings
They may have been
Nothing more--
Nothing else.

In peace.

I really wanted to say good one, but I don't understand poems. Who is this "special person"?
slipknot Posted on 10-Nov-02 01:49 PM

Wow, SGal, your each word echos the throbbing of a heart, of a mind soaked in longing thoughts that sometimes is the only recourse, and of a feeling that rises from the depths of your soul washed in romance. Good luck with that special someone!

That lucky bas#@$@, re kya ajha last ma! :)

Good one Simplegal, is that meant to be for someone special?

Khas manchhe bhataiye ki kya ho? Yedi ho bhane badhai chha hai....
SimpleGal Posted on 10-Nov-02 03:42 PM

Thanks Slipknot, Bhedo bhai, and Lonely dai for your warm comments.

Slipknot, as always, your writing touches my heart! ;)

For all those who are wondering, Khas manchhe ta bhetnai banki chha. Tara zindagi ma Milan bhanda ramailo Parkhai hunchha. The stunningly stinging bliss of anticipation. As Natikaji would have sung:
Euta tara danda wari
Arko tara pari
Neto kati gaye pani
Dil haara haari.....

For now, this poem is just something that I had once written as a college-gal. The ambience on a shockingly pleasant Autumnal yesterday revived these thoughts once again in me. And I thought of sharing memories of those moments vested in time with my fellow Sajhaites. :)

In peace.

Krishnaji, Junkie, K-ji:
Thank you for your comments. K-ji, kya khatara translation ni hou....word for word....am reminded of a joke my father told me of a friend of his who translated thus:
Nepali:
Udesya ke linu, udi chhoun chandra ek.
English trans.:
What aim to take? Fly and catch one moon!
On the subject of the Nepali language, just yesterday someone told me that my spoken Nepali resembles a typical Purbeli. And being a Biratnagaria, it was a huge compliment to me.

Voyeurji,
:) I humbly thank you for your kind words.

M.P.ji,
Mero pani darshan chha hai! Purbeli pariyo.....bindaas type! :)

Muchas Gracias senorita Sitara y senora Ruck!
Ruckji, hajurko comment, to be perfectly honest, reminded me of my mother! :) I can sense that you exude maternal love and caring. Mommy's far away, but truly, your warmth brought her one step closer....thank you! Esp. that other time when you wrote "God bless you." It touched my heart!

simple gal,
nice poem ....... ... ...

me a silent reader ... most of the time but can't stop writing .....

Can you explain this a bit? me cannot figure out ur meaning....
"n the subject of the Nepali language, just yesterday someone told me that my spoken Nepali resembles a typical Purbeli. And being a Biratnagaria,"

Biratnagar is in "PURBA" meaning EAST. So, i somehow believe your argument contradicts... at least to me.... so do you mean you speak nepali like "Paschime" ?? Like one from "Gorkha or Pokhara" or "jharra(theth) nepali".. then probably that may mean as a compliment....

Whatchay think?????

-pt
SimpleGal Posted on 11-Nov-02 09:01 AM

Thapaji,
I meant to say that I am from Biratnagar, which is in Purba. And I never knew that I had a Purbeli accent/style when I spoke Nepali. The person's comment, therefore, was a compliment! Since I absolutely love the eastern part of Nepal--Biratnagar, Dhankuta, Dharan, Damak, Illam...etc.

Sakshi,
How sweet of you! Thank you dear! :)

In peace.
thapap Posted on 11-Nov-02 09:14 AM

simple gal jiyu,

some how your posting tend to be exactly like
"jun goru ko singh chaina us ko namm tike"
"aankha nahune ko naam netra lal" ... so on

too complex ......... (as an compliment!! )
(... too complex at least for me .....!!!!)

anyway.....
finally gotcha!!!

this is the key; "And I never knew that I had a Purbeli accent/style." i guess;

just trying to wiggle my way throug' these mazes....

Splendido! Marvello!! Superbo!!! Delissimo...hetterika, poem lai ta taste garna mildaina kyare... :)

Returning after a hectic weekend, I was quite disheartened with some of the other threads in Sajhapur--kach kach-sach kach, tanta-santa..."MAI HUN" of some people--and was seriously thinking, "Well, I might as well retire and return to the warm KAAKH of my dearest Dammar Kumari," but then here it was--a piece that surely made me :) and realize, well, afterall, it ain't that bad...just not yet!

Let me assure you that this is not an attempt to brown-nose anyone by praising a supposedly 'hollow' poem, but rather a genuine expression of thankfulness aroused by a beautiful work of poetry.

HALLAYO, HALLAYO!!!! SIMPLE GAL LE SAJHA HALLAYO!!!!

SimpleGal,

What glows might be a reflection
reflection is dependent, be cautious!
feelings are always simple
understanding may be complicated
Precise is abstract, just watch
something exists between
nothing more and nothing less..
that's love!

In chaos,

Deep.

Superb lines! Aru ke bhanu ma? :)

Teen tolia tirai ho mamaghar bhannu parla. I went to Birtamod last summer to visit my cousin. He took me on his motorcycle, my first ride on one, up and down the winding hills all the way to Illaam. He paused every now and then to show me the places--khet-haru, Illaam bajaar, his father's chiya bagaan-haru....etc. It was all SO amazing. But I couldn't walk for 2 days after that! :)

Najar and Arnicoji,
Thanks for your encouraging words. Am bad with directions!! :)

Syandidi Simplegal, a very beautiful poem indeed!. I'm sure your "simple feelings" have flown across the oceans and that "special" person has captured the essence of it, and felt your presence even in your absense....reminds me of the first scene in the movie DDLJ (one of my top five fav movies) where the girl stands by her bdrm window and reads her poem which i had memorized then....lemme see if i can remember....sharing your love for poetry, urdu and shayari this one's dedicated to you la! :)

Aisa pehli baar hua hai satrah athrah saalon mein
Undekha anjaana koi aane laga hai khayalon mein

Aankhon ki khidki par ek saya sa lehrata hai
Dil ke darwaze par koi dastak de ke jaata hai

Gheri gheri kaali aankhen mujhse mujhko poochti hai
Haaton ki rekhaon mein ek chehra sa ban jata hai

Uski saanse resham jaisi gaalo ko chu jaati hai
Uske haaton ki khushboo hai ab tak mere balon mein

Haan, aisa pehli baar hua hai satrah athrah saalon mein
Undekha anjaana koi aane laga hai khayalon mein

How sweet of you! Ani syandidi is such cute name. I'm delighted to be christened that by such a vivacious and creative woman like yourself. :)

Those are cute lines from one of my fav movies too. This may be totally unconnected, but am reminded of a song from an old movie called Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam---a Guru Dutt classic:

Bhawara bada nadan....hai
Bagiyan ka mehemaan...hai
Phir bhi jane na jane na jane na
Kaliyan ki....hm hm hm hm....kaliyan ki Muskaan....hai
Bhawara bada naaaada-aa-aa-aan.

SITARA Posted on 11-Nov-02 11:00 PM

Simple Gal;

Re read your poem; and I am touched, yet again!

In your young years, you have known much......And on the "joys and sorrows" of waiting:Here is a poem I will present; one of my favourites by Khalil Gibran:

.........Then a woman said, speak to us of Joy and Sorrow
And he answered:
Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises
was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being,
the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine
the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit
the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart
and you shall find it is only that
which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful, look again in your heart,
and you shall see that in truth you are weeping
for that which has been your delight.
Some of you say, "joy is greater than sorrow,"
and others say, "nay, sorrow is the greater".
But I say unto you, they are inseparable.
Together they come, and when one sits alone
with you at your board,
remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.

With my positive energy to you!

Sitara,
Gibran is a uniquely gifted writer and the segment of his The Prophet that you've posted is one of my fav parts of the poem! I read the book last year and couldn't tear myself away from it, despite the vehement protestations of my friends who had planned an outing. :)
Thanks for posting the part on Joy and Sorrow, the inevitable and inseparable aspects of life.

Thanks all for your feedback, although I had put out the poem "just like that." :)
