Alien idealists

This is in response to the news entitled "Nepalis in NY call for restoration of House" published in your daily dated November 8, 2002. I found the signature campaign of the so-called American "Nepalis" protesting against His Majesty King Gyanendra’s move to assume executive powers totally biased and hypocritical. It is easy to be idealistic, especially when one is living miles away in an air-conditioned home munching on McDonald’s burgers and fries, far away from a corruption and violence-ridden country. For the past 12 years, the poor "Nepalis in Nepal" have been struggling for their daily daal and bhaat when our so-called leaders were buying luxurious Pajeros and ripping the nation off. Do you mean to say that was constitutional? Are you people living a good life in the land of opportunity trying to imply that the country and aspirations of the Nepali people is nothing compared to a piece of paper that you call constitution?

I am sorry, but I beg to differ with you, the privileged lot. Democracy is good, but it would be meaningless if the citizens are left hungry
and naked. In this corner of the world, we want peace, stability, development and an end to the useless political rhetoric on the King’s action. In taking a new step, the King has correctly fulfilled the aspirations of the masses. We know he is the only person who cares about us and can deliver. We are breathing a sigh of relief, and that matters a lot.

Yes indeed. I see little point in people contemplating and commenting on Nepal unless they are ready to do something tangible about it. Everything else is hypocrisy.

If you discredit the voice of Nepali citizens who are currently abroad (how dare you judge whether they are ready to do something tangible or not?) then what do say you to the following statement by people based IN NEPAL?

Quoted from the Kathmandu Post, 9 November 2002:

Chand government lacks legitimacy: Eminent citizens

Post Report

KATHMANDU, Nov 8

A group of eminent citizens has appealed to King Gyanendra to immediately disband the present government headed by Lokendra Bahadur Chand and make interim arrangements in its place. The group has also urged the King to revive the dissolved House of Representatives (HoR).

Issuing a joint statement on the eve of the 13th Constitution Day the eminent citizens numbering eight urged the monarch to take immediate steps to correct the derailment of the constitutional process.

The signatories include Bishwanath Upadhyaya, Daman Nath Dhungana, Nilamber Acharya, Dr. Krishna Kumar Pandey, Dr. Madhu Ghimire, Dr. Devendra Raj Pandey, Dr. Laxmi Narayan Prasad and Kulshekhar Sharma. The first three were members of the committee, which drafted the present Constitution.

"It is unhealthy for the nation to give continuity to the present government which does not even have legitimacy, confidence, qualifications, public support and authority," the statement said. The group has appealed for the immediate disbandment of the government and replace it by either revival of the dissolved parliament or "interim arrangements that would institutionalise the exercise of the people’s sovereign rights." Such interim arrangement, the statement added, should be developed in consultation with all political parties including the rebel Maoists.

The statement also slammed the King’s October 4 action as "making a bad situation worse." On that day, King Gyanendra sacked the Sher Bahadur Deuba Government and took over all executive powers. A week later, he appointed the present government.

The statement said that the King’s action is tantamount to taking away people’s authorities. "The people’s ire against parties’ leadership was used to take away their own authority. Such action today has created a rift between the monarchy and the people," the statement said. "The belief that such action can get away without public protest reflects the inability to realise the political maturity of the masses in these 12 years of democracy."

The statement also clearly states that according to the Constitution, sovereignty lies with the people and is exercised by the people themselves or through their elected representatives.

The statement urges the monarch to rise above politics and encourage a environment of dialogue between all the political forces in the country. Meanwhile, the intellectuals have also harshly criticised the Maoists and urged them to cease their violent activities and seek amicable solutions to the problems.

These don't want to erase their name from history to confine to one line. If the current constitution goes ahead, they can be proud of their writings, otherwise, it will be replaced by new one, that means their name is just one or few line, no value at all. This is the reason they are shouting for blah blah blah... Useless guys. They don't stick to same thing. Did Biswonath ever tried to make judges honest? Why did not he do it? Because he is one of the corrupt judges in Nepal.

Girija does not represent Nepal. Girija's secretary GRJ is well known corrupt.
Makune is power hungry. It is said that Bamdev want to join Chand Government.
........... In this sense, CIAA should go ahead. If CIAA goes ahead, they will
bargain with Chand and join the government. Just time will show it.

If you guys go and read the posting I posted here in March 31, 2002 (US Time) and
April 1st, 2002, I clearly predicted the dissolution of parliament, and sacking of Deoba government. Well, some peoples in Japan threatened me to pass the April Fool message to Army and ask action against me for defaming RNA, it was Nepali Student's Association in Japan. Well, the question comes why could I predict it? Though on the April Fool day. Some guys around me say to me, when I make interesting predictions, how can you predict it? Its nothing but, when you watch things carefully for long time, you can predict its result within some error. Well, Euler was great mathematician, he derived many equations and solution techniques, but, I read somewhere that out of many only few are worth studying, and you don'T study his useless theories thus, you feel him great guy whose all theories look good. Similarly, lets not look these so call eminent big guys only from the few notable good things they did, but, there many things they failed to produce, e.g. Biswonath, ................. they are failed peoples, they are hinging around us and want to be hinged with the remaining contribution: as a constitution writers. If this constitution, they will be like Nagendra Prasad Rijal baje, if you know him, you know him just as former PM Baje, who used to close any newspaper who spoke a word against him. ....

Biswonath baje is not speaking for peoples sake, but, for his own name sake.

Arnico,

What do all these "eminent citizens" have in common? They all seem to come from the same ethic background, don't they? Who reaped the most benefit out of the last 12 years of chaos and corruption? Who were the majority of senoir politicians and bureaucrats? Sometimes you just need to call a spade a spade.
