Now this is a good movie. Hitchcock is the man!
SimpleGal Posted on 14-Nov-02 08:36 PM

You should see Psycho....the bloodcurdling Hitchcock thriller.
Vertigo is also good. I recommend The Birds, The man who knew too much, and the Stranger on the Train. The last one scared the hell outta me!

In Peace.

You watched Hitchcock's Rebecca? It's pretty good. I'll be watching "Rear Window" tomorrow. I heard good things about "The Birds". Guess I'll have to watch "Stranger on the Train" too.
SimpleGal Posted on 14-Nov-02 09:43 PM

yeah, I've seen practically all of Hitchcock's movies!!! :)

If you get a chance, you should see a new movie (not a Hitchcock one) called "Roger Dodger."
The latest Hannibal Lecter movie "Red Dragon" was good, chilling to the bone. Ralph Fiennes was superb! I've adored him since The English Patient days.

In peace.

Hi there Hitchcock fans,

I watched at least five Hitchcock movies: Rebecca, Rear Window, North By Northwest, Vertigo and Psycho. So, it is so natural to feel good to see some people talking about his movies here.

I liked North By Northwest most, though I agree the comparison between all these movies is an unworthy attempt: they are all good. The day I was in Mt Rushmore, South Dakota, I was remembering the scene from North By Northwest, and wondering how improbable that scene really was. But the movie was awesome, the result of an extraordinary imagination. Red Dragon , which so closely tries to imitate the presentation style of North By Northwest, fails to reach the height of suspense NBN scaled.

Have fun.

Oh, I just remembered two more movies: Dial M for murder, and The man who knew too much, I think both were from Hitchcock, and both were good.
Sangey Posted on 15-Nov-02 03:53 PM

I watched North by Northwest again last week. That movie is awesome. But then, so are rest of the Hitchcock thrillers: Psycho, Vertigo, Birds, you name it. One thing I realized last weekend was you have to pay very close attention to tiny details in those movies. For example, the way Cary Grant fidgets while waiting right before he gets chased by the crop-duster in NbNW, the positioning of the mirrors in the Phoenix hotel where the Janet Leigh gets a quickie from her lover, etc.

By the way, back in Doordarshan days, there used to be an indian tv program called Satyjit Ray presents, which was quite good, in fact almost as good as another tv program called Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

Well, I downloaded "Red Dragon" from Kazaa, but the stupid bootleg version didn't work. Oh well, I'll just wait till it comes out on home video. I have watched Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal. Hannibal sucked, since it was a slasher flick rather than a pscychological thriller, but Silence of the Lambs was amazing.

As for Vertigo, it is considered by many to be Hitchcock's masterpiece. Many consider it to be the best movie of all times.

bhedoji,

I am just curious to know who consider it to be 'the best movie of all times'? It is good , it is a masterpiece, no doubt, but I never saw any review claiming it to be 'the best'.
bhedo Posted on 15-Nov-02 06:10 PM

"Alfred Hitchcock directed some great films, but not every film was great. For example, "The Man Who Knew Too Much" from 1956, co-starred Doris Day and seemed to be a vehicle for her to sing "Que Sera Sera". "Vertigo", his next film that starred Jimmy Stewart, is considered by many not only to be Hitchcock's best movie, but by some to be the best movie ever"

Thanks bhedoji.

The guy hasn't given any link about his sources either, sadly.

Well, how about this site? It's BBC.

Ok, it's rated as 2nd best. But some critics must have thought it's the best.

Bhedoji,

The problem is this: in the most, if not all, of the polls, Citizen Kane is regarded as the best movie ever made. I have never found any ranking citing Vertigo as the best. So that explains my surprise. Not that vertigo is bad, It is the excellent movie, a masterpiece, but when people rank movies of all time, It is led by Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Lawrence Of Arabia, Gone With The Wind, Wizard Of Oz etc.. and about British list, well, we know Hitchcock was Briton :-) And the British liberals don't like our uncle Sam that much anyway:-):-)

Thanks for the link.
