I am writing a paper on transitional migrants which basically means the new kind of migrants as opposed to say, first wave of immigrants to US from europe, who left their homeland and adopted a new land which is US.The new kind of migrants are transitional because they emigrate from country of origin but they still continue to keep links with their home country via business, social and cultural ties.
Anyway I have been thinking about nepali community in US a lot and was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a nepali tv broadcast from US and also do people listen to kantipur fm? do they have nepali print media in US?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Back in the early 90's, Nepal Update bhanne quarterly niskinthyo DC area bata. Some local Nepali organizations also used to circulate printed bulletins mostly on a quarterly basis. I am not sure if they still do so. Najar, are you referring to Chautari from NY? GBNC ko pani testai publication thiyo kyare. May be folks at the coastal area as well as those in the larger cities have have better information than a makaibarite like me.

supernova, I don't think your assumption of "the first wave of immigrants adopted a new land which is US and new kind of migrants are transitional" is correct!

Even the first wave had and still have these transitional migrants who like to keep their roots and culture. It is another matter that they have become a dominant culture here in US.

Similarly the new immigrants may also fall either on parmanent or transitional category. Only time and tide will tell.

Thank you everybody who have spared some time to reply to my question.

Biruwa,

The first wave of migrants came here and settled they never looked back...well when I said transitional migrants I meant people who still visit their home country off and on but are residing outside their home country. e.g. students, workers etc
So, at present I would consider them transitional migrants what would they do in the future...god knows! I cannot fortell.
well...to make it more simpler (less confusing) how about if I rephrase my assumption to ..
The new kind of migrants are transitional because they emigrate from country of origin but they still continue to visit their home country. hoina ra ?? ki kaso???
I am more interested on such kind of migrants in nepali communities in US, UK etc.
Thank you so much for your input Biruwa..I REALLY appreciate it!
PS. I am still working on my rough draft may be I'll have more to share once i come up w/ my first rough draft.
