Nepal among where 28 die violently every hour KOL Report KATHMANDU, Nov 16 – Nepal is among 10-country region in Asia where 28 people die violently every hour, APF has quoted a UN report unveiled on Saturday. Likewise, around 600-1,100 people visit hospitals for injuries incurred by violence in the same 10 countries. Nepal has been tattered with violent activities in the recent years waged by the Maoists who have targeted security personnel as well as civilians with whom they have political differences. However, Uton Muchtar Rafei, regional director of the UN's World Health Organization (WHO), has been quoted as saying that the figures are likely to be higher as two-thirds of the victims choose to remain silent. Apart from Nepal, the other countries where the survey was conducted include Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, North Korea, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The same study has found that violence claimed 317,000 lives in 2000 alone. (sjs) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This news report is itself self-explanatory. How a peaceful country in the world has been worstly victimised by the so-called 'people's war' of the Taliban-like Maoists. Everyday civilians have been killed by the maoists or the army. The death toll by this civil war seems to be increasing in higher rate than any other causes (say AIDS or other diseases). In a country having difficult geography and fragile environment, people are killed by natural calamities (e.g. earthquake, flood etc.). It seems that Nepal is becoming one of the least secure place to live. Why is this happening? Ke sachhai 'Sati le sarapeko desh' bhayera yasto bhayeko ho ta? What's you guys n gals feel?
