Finally, the two month planning, coordination and preparation came into being and as a part of the organizing committee, I was simply overcome with joy and relief in the end. "what a splendid night!", "what a spectacular event!", "marvellous job!", people kept on showering such compliments as I moved from one end to the other meeting with them and thanking them for their support for such a noble cause such as this one. Hamro Dayitwa, the special landslide fund raising event attended by more than 350 people here in the twin cities last Saturday not only brought the nepalese community closer to our cultural roots but also helped us spread the awareness that we as concerned citizens living abroad can do a lot to help our motherland. Sr. Benedicta was right. "Where there is a will, there certainly is a way" and this event proved it. From the lively newari song "woochu galli" to the melodious "dherai dherai" of 1974 AD to the beautiful ethnic and fusion dances to the powerful slide presentation about the landslides to the humorous and thought provoking poems to the exquisitely choreographed indian guest performance "Dola re dola" the entire show was a potpourri of entertaining items that mesmerized the audience till the end. Students from all the six Universities worked very hard to present such a remarkable show. Hats off to them! I would like to thank three special Sajhaites whose help and suggestions were useful for this event and they are Ashutosh, Protean and Simplegal. Thank you guys; I'lll be sending you a copy of the videotaped program as a gift. Protean ji, I need your mailing address so send it to me through "dakshinkaali@yahoo.com" I will also send a copy to San dai so people in Boston can borrow it from him if you're interested to watch it. As for the rest, with the poets' permission, I'd like to share with you two poems that were recited during the program. The first one's written by my 15 yr old American brother who dedicated it to the event and the relief workers. And the second one's written by a newly discovered poet in the MN community and a new found friend of mine whose satirical and humorous poems wowed the audience so much that he instantly gained numerous fans including myself. I hope you'll enjoy reading them!

Saviors By Luke Peterson The tremors of this turbulent world Consume life. Aftermath of the earth’s fury lies around us. Specters standing, Reminding us of the chaos that can be unleashed. Through a smothering haze of destruction Thin rays of hope shine. Generosity Holds back the tide. Shovels dig with relentless passion. Determination fuels aching bodies And pushes, Pushes the earth away. Conviction saves many And lifts the load from chafed souls. Kindness soothes tortured minds Like a cool balm. Shouldering the burden of responsibility, People cast their own plans to the side, And carry those that are torn by pain and loss. These saviors are the ones that sustain us. We are bound to them For they give us life. ********************************** Ma Bhandina By Uttam Adhikary Timilai napaye marchhu bhanera ta bhandina tara, bachna pani sakdina, Timro sath napaye runchu bhanera ta bhandina tara, hasna pani sakdina!! A night to remember!!! What a night to remember!! A night of meteor shower A cold and cloudy night Me and my frozen fingers Shivering in the vanished light Jaded and broken, by the twist of fate Right outside that cheap old pub Where "she" used to work Before "she" made me broke, Before she left me broken Before i was all shattered Before I hit the ground Right here in the darkest part of alley All i feel is that punch under my belly It was supposed to be a night of meteor shower It wasn't supposed to be as cold and dark as this Like I wasn't supposed to be broken!! Je paayo tyahi # 513!!! ------------------------------ where am i?

Very beautifully written...Please convey my commendations on his brilliant writing and my "asha" that he will continue with such beauty in the future. Glad that the event went well. Thanks for being an integral part of it! Bravo to you, too. :) In peace.

Dilasha, Great work done! Was the program organized by Empower Foundation Nepal (I don't know if this still exists)? I think Mr Adhikari's poem really motivates those who are in the mist of unattainable love. very nice!! NP

It was definitely a step up from the numerous previous Nepali shows that I have been to. No more bad sound system or musicians tuning their guitar AFTER their act is announced and crap like that. More importantly it was "choto" and "mitho", glad it did not go on and on and on with the same old dances and songs. Most of the items were refreshing. Good to see so many new young talents here...always fun to watch people who can actually play or sing!! the last Indian dance as a guest performance was a nice touch... Let's see if I can make any constructive criticism...maybe you can work on the light arrangements a little...It woudl be a good idea to have the audience section darkened while the performance is going on rather than the stage... All in all, good job!! Look forward to more of such future events!! k'dude

Friends, thank you for the compliments. It was indeed a collective effort that helped us accomplish the goal. -Pac_man, I was told that your rep Piush will receive a copy of the tape. So, pls do contact him. If you don't hear from him then do contact me, i'll pass on your request. -Simplegal, I'll convey your message to Uttam. -kathmandude, point noted...the lights on the stage had to be changed to give it a better look, i'm glad you liked the program.

Dilasha, Good to hear that the program was eventful. This is just a testament to the fact what collective and concerted effort can achieve. Congratulations to all the volunteers, artists, and the organizers of the events! Hope the proceeds raised from this show can provide some degree of relief to the ones in need back in Nepal! Congratulations to you for embarking on this endeavor with like minded people. Keep up the spirit!!! On a personal note, thank you for the appreciation and the warm gesture extended to me-- though I feel I just share ideas based on some info I previously had gathered. Will contact you.

Thanks Protean ji for the encouraging words! :) With the help of friends and supporters like you and the rest I want/hope to organize various other programs like exhibitions/auctions/nepali dinner parties and many more in the future and thus raise funds to help the needy back home. You definitely seem to be a person with lots of ideas so we'll definitely be in touch.
