Sainju Ji, you seemed to be thrilled of the fact that more and more government around the world are considering Linux over Microsoft. I personally feel threatened about my job security as system admin under strict MS platform. |

Vision, Maybe "Enjoy" is not the right word I chose. Accept my sincere apology. Please don't get me wrong and think that I am thrilled about your job insecurity. I am not. It is just that there is an alternative to MS dominance of OS market and that's what I am happy about. I am a great supporter of an open source movement but still do admit that it will be years (8-10) for Linux to take over MS unless MS does some really really stupid things. I, too, use MS apps every now and then. Sorry again, if you feel belittled. SMSainju |

SMS ji, I thought you did not use MS apps at all. I guess Star Office is not sufficient.. Anyway, here is related article and discussion on Is Linux Really Going To Rule the Desktop? According to IDC research mentioned in the article, Linux only has 1% of desktop market share right now and may gain 10% in a year or so. It might have little more share than this on server market but i don't think it is something to worry about... -PS |

Hey Penguine (Suna) and Puru ji, I use VMWare to to dual boot to Linux and Windows. Every now and then I have to use MS apps (customer related). Other than that, I can get by without using MS Apps. Many vendors are seriously considering porting their apps to Linux as well. I think it will still take some time for Penguine to be considered a threat to MS but it sure is making noise. MS gurus seem a little bit worrisome and trying hard to squash it in its infancy. It will be interesting to see how Linux will evolve in the days to come..... SMSainju |
