If Everest is unacceptable, why should the world not prefer the Nepalese name to the Chinese or Tibetan one? Who are the Chinese, of all people, to accuse others of raping Tibet? And how is the "English language hegemonism" of which China complains worse than its Chinese language equivalent? for more :- http://www.guardian.co.uk/china/story/0,73...,843477,00.html

China wants the name changed by next year - the 50th anniversay of the first ascent by Sir Edmund Hillary and Nepalese Sherpa Tensing Norgay. May be Chinese and Tibetian call Qmolongmo. It is easy for them to pronouce also. We will continue to call it Sagarmatha I guess. It will be hard to call it with different name than we are used to calling it. Rest of the world will don't care about the new name. They will keep on calling it Mt. Everest. unless they are with some Chinese or Tibetians.

I thik the correct url is: http://www.guardian.co.uk/leaders/story/0,3604,843419,00.html After giving half of Sagarmatha to Chinese, Nepal has lost half of the previlege to name it. Do you think Nepalese government can stand against mighty Chinese will? If they could give half of the real thing to China, what is there in the Name? Herdai Jaun!!!! - isi

Qomolangma is also the Sherpa name for it. French call it Rhone , Germans call it Rhine....but it's the same river.

Logical sense, I copied that from http://www.guardian.co.uk/china/story/0,7369,843477,00.html .Don't know the reason how come copy and paste URL appeared like that. I agree with your point. I don't think our Government has to say anything aganst Chinaese will. Do anyone know the history behind taking/giving half of the Sagarmatha? I heard a long time ago that Peak lies in Nepal. Is it true? Just wondering...
