Many friends and well-wishers of SUNIL MAN SHAKYA, a former GBNC Council member, wll be happy to know that Sunil is doing well and good as an upcoming businesman in Kathmandu. Along with his charming wife Sangeeta, he owns and manages Momo restaurants -- the hugely popular Momo King in New Road, Putali Sadak and Baneswor. Be sure to visit any one of the Momo Kings when you are next in Kathmandu. Their momos and sauce are especially good!! Sunil first served as the GBNC Treasurer when I was president, and, at the time, he, along with Raju Pradhan and Anish Bania, was a top-notch top-level colleague to work together with. Thanks to his and Raju's efforts, we had been able to turn the then GBNC accounts in the black. Anyway, at our recent meeting at a South Indian eating place serving dosa/sambar/uttapam and the like, Sunil entertained us with the tales of some of the fun stuff he used to do in Boston with friends. It was a happy chance encounter, full of memories and reminiscences. On another note, Jagdish Pokharel is another former Boston Nepali who seems to have done well in Nepal. An MIT PhD in urban and regional planning, Pokharel presently, under the Nepali Congress ko government, serves as a Member of the National Planning Commission. He looks after the environment portfolio. On a yet another note, to talk about another former Boston Nepali: In 1995-96, Jay Raj Acharya had spent nine months as a fellow at Harvard's Center for International Affairs. Acharya, who is also the former Nepali Ambassador to the United Nations, is presently working as a principal of a private high school (plus-two) in Kathmandu Acharya's Boston connection has come in handy to some of us here to seek his help and advice re: lobbying the Nepali Prime Minister Girija Koirala on issues facing of the former Kamaiyas. Acharya has been quite helpful to us. oohi ashu
