I found myself amused at the following observations brought to my attention by an undergrad student of mine this morning:

1. Girls are gals, boys are guys. But girls are also guys, although boys are never gals.

2. Girls wear skirts, boys wear pants. But girls also wear pants, although guys (except the Scottish and some Native American tribes perhaps!) never wear skirts.

3. Girls are emotional, boys are task oriented. But girls are also task oriented, although boys (ahem!) are never emotional.
(Recent masculinity studies refute the generalizability of the latter, however). But was intrigued by the prevailing stereotype.

These are the ones that come to mind. Found them worth pondering.

Please bring in your "points to ponder" if you please! :)

In peace.
NK Posted on 21-Nov-02 12:43 PM

hERE IS MY TWO MILLION WORTH :)

Guys like to debate inconconsquential stuff in the pretense of debating/national importance

Their egos are bigger than size of Boulder Colorado (trying to rhyme)

They cannot wait to flaunt their woman like she is an object! Look at my woman the Cindy Crawfoot alike! (haven't they done some women studies???? or what???????? Which era are they in?????????????/)

They like to flaunt anthing big, either their own or their partners'. Look at my big house, look at my big boat, their big salary, their "big" job, ----hey folks, look at my girl friend's big........... hair do! [;)]

They are incredibly insecure. They are ready to jump at anything or anybody who even remotely threaten their masculanity. Their supposed intelligence, their pride (vanity rather)

They are incredibly shallow and vengeful. They have an elephantine memory when it comes to remembering who wouned them when and who said how many million years ago.

more later....

[my observation is solely based on Sajha b asi]
slipknot Posted on 21-Nov-02 12:49 PM

Until the day girls, like men, can walk down the streets donning bald heads and flatulent beer bellies without any shame and full of pride, boys will be boys, girls will be girls. :)

Peace!
isolated freak Posted on 21-Nov-02 12:52 PM

honestly, i was with a cindy crawford look alike last night.. she was so hot that i had to take off my jacket...flamingly hot :=)..

drank campari...when the time to pay the bill came.. i figured out, i didn't have any cash on me.. so i just put the bill on my dollar-account credit card..kya ramailo bhayo..

wanna hear what happened after that???

I wok up from my dream....it was already 7 AM.....kya jhyau bhayo
Suna Posted on 21-Nov-02 12:55 PM

slipknot: Okay
what if I told you I HAVE donned a bald head and flaunted my beer belly..can you boast of wearing a bra and a skirt - WITHOUT ANY SHAME?
:)
NK Posted on 21-Nov-02 01:06 PM

Have you ever seen a cock-fight? have you seen them all bloody and crippled in the midst cheering of onlookers???

Do you know what I mean???????

And yes slipknot i agree with you. boys will be boys and girls will be boys.

For a moment let's look at the women of Sajha.

Let's look at our SimpleGal. Does anyone have a doubt she is an intelligent woman? How about Sally and Sitara and what about Suna?

Sure there were some instances of little "cat fight" but it lasts so briefly, we all forget what that was about or even if it ever happend?

But nooooooooooooooooo .Wwhen male species are involved, it is entirely different matter. They remember and remember and remember. They guide you (the readers in this instance)very methodically to revisit the past. I wonder where they store these kind of memories? Do they build a house just to house their grievances? I mean you need a pretty freaking big house for that kind of storage.

I find women a bit melo dramatic in all fairness, but it is not as dangerous to others as well as to themselves as men in adreln. rush to "right" the "wrong." Just look at those alpha males,I mean those fighting 'Bhale.'
isolated freak Posted on 21-Nov-02 01:13 PM

good memory is essentiatl to survive.. you should be able to trace things to pre-historic ages and prove your point....(or win a debate)
NK Posted on 21-Nov-02 01:26 PM

Do you know why we forget IF? Forgetting HAS a beeeeeeeeeeg importance in our evolution. If we remember each and every bad things that happeneded to us then it would be too painful to live. WE MUST forget in order to live a fruitiful life. The science says that and scripture says that.

Also, our brain is not bottom less barrel where you can put everything and it still never fills up. It *does* fill up eventually. That is why the "memory loss" in old age. There is no place to put things in. It is like a file cabinet.

I read in Scientific America or something like that. just click on some science journal and you will find out that I am not joking this time.

see, when you forget bad things in life, then.. good things don't make you excited.. you need to remember all the bad that has happened to you... so that you can enjoy all the good things that happens to you..

okay.. a freak remains a freak.. don't even knjow what i am typing...

I know all the vulgar answer to this, which I don't think is appropriate here!!

Dilasha Posted on 21-Nov-02 01:48 PM

heh heh Simplegal, simple points to ponder there.... :)

ha ha NK pretty good observation there! :)

following the bandwagon, lemme see if i can add more:

they also say that "girls" are heavily into "gossip" while guys are NOT but my o my, i've met guys who ARE into gossip the "back biting" arena and some do so with a vehement passion.

but I've also found out contrary to what I thought before, that men, no matter how strong and unaffected by emotional situations they think they are, can be very vulnerable and they think that it is not good to show their emotional sides thinking it's a sign of "weakness" thus failing to understand that it isn't. Women do love to observe and comprehend that aspect of men which very few men share with them. And no it is not a sign of weakness!
isolated freak Posted on 21-Nov-02 01:53 PM

la mahila -ekkta huna thalyo..

mahila bhaneko=women but if you remove h from mahila, it become maila(dirty);=)

NK Posted on 21-Nov-02 01:59 PM

That's true and I think it is because of gender biases. Not that they are not cabable of doing it.
Suna Posted on 21-Nov-02 02:02 PM

NK: It could also because when we are menstruating, we are supposed to be "dirty" or wara sareyko. Can you imagine a temple being closed for 8 days?
I can! :)

NK--nice observations there! My fav part: Boys will be boys, and girls will be boys. :)))

Suna--Ahem, I've noticed that Sknot dai hasn't yet responded to your dare! That was witty on your part!! hehehe

Kalankiji--Gals who are guys are dykes on bikes re? Naaah....not alway....Does the word TOMBOY ring a bell???? :)

Dilasha--on the emotional bit, yes I think it's a HUGE stereotype that women alone are emotional. Melodramatic, yes perhaps to a greater Degree than men. But emotional, well, men are MUCH MORE EMOTIONAL than women. For instance, if a woman is rejected by a man, she, with her social and interactional support, can and do recover from the shock MUCH faster than men. The latter, with their gigantic egos will writhe internally, their grudges and wounds housed, as NK said, in the houses they seem to have built to house them in! And consequently, take much longer to recover. On the surface, they seem to have recovered, but the slightest touch on the raw nerve (if you are gifted enough to find it because they conceal it most of the time) sends them on a rampage of defensiveness!! Women's egos are like a feather--here now, gone next. Men's egos are like thorns, not stones--pricking them and others now and next. :) If they were stones, they'd break against something and that would be the end of it. They're more like thorns because that pricking pain is a nagging one and men are not, to be honest, happy under the heaviness of their egos.

But of course, going by the argument Boys will be boys, girls will be boys (I just love it, NK!!), there are girls with inflated egos, too! And then of course, we'd also have to say that boys will also be girls----they just don't know it!!! :)

In peace.

taI do not know if the nepalese women just need some excuse or some place to vend all their anger, frustration, sorrow, pir, marka ...aba hund hunda ta Mahila -yekata...huh!!

So, methinks, all these women were around all day today, loitering around sajha ko galli , , waiting for some occasion, any occasion as a matter of fact, to lash out on the Alpha male..and Voila !! SImplegal started something she is proud of,and rightfully so..:) and again my dear ladies are showing off their, only theirs', talent, vending off their brain out here at this moment which they think is making them proud..so much so they do not even mind getting dirty ( gati chadne) like they are preparing for ( Rattyaullii) ...at the same time they don't mind pointing at the Alpha male ..the atmosphere seems to be filled with the gossip " if they can do it why can't we."

If they can fight, so can we..If they can be puret, so can we. ..I they can talk big shi* , so can we........ similarly if they can talk trash , so can we...

when is the culture of comparision...women comparing to men ..is going to disappear and men comparing themselves to women appear..

Hmmm,

Isn't this a gross generalization?????

Anway, this statement just popped out in stark CONTRAST while I went through this thread:

"Boys will be boys, and girls will be Boys."

So, although this generalization about men being this and that is floating about, why are girls to be BOYS?

Isn't it to be like them???? :-)

I wonder :-)
SITARA Posted on 21-Nov-02 05:10 PM

GENDER ROLES are placed by society's expectations...... and each individual society has different criterias for the gender roles within their own society!

One salient point, the roles are affected depending on whether you come from a Matriarchial or Patriachial society! The day, society stops imposing the values on gender roles, current and prevalent male and female stereotying will change!

Aba rayo biological make which can be changeable :P.....But again it needs external intervention! :)
Suna Posted on 22-Nov-02 10:27 AM

This thread is NOT about gender bias nor the lack of biases of any kind. It is about comparing/analyzing the "stigmas" that exist on either genders.
It is also about MAKING FUN of the alpha males who are going AT IT (decently! may i add) but also to mention that REGARDLESS of the stigmas that exist regarding females, MALES HERE ON SAJHA seem to be no less!!

Suna, what it all means is they (some) are worser than any other worstests!
It means losing sights.
It means Icarus's job is to come down!
It means (for these people)do what I say not what I do.
It means "I am stupidd! Don't you get it fools?" (these people seem to be saying).
It means "I am so blinded by my desire to get the whole goddamn thing straight, I don't realize I am making myself a fool's fool!!"

I will think of something later. Now, I must go food shopping. :))
