Nepalese citizens are dying everyday in our country due to the political instability and the government is spending it's resources to forming a 35 member committee to celebrate the crown prince's birthday.Isn't it ironic that our government still does not recognize what its priorities are anymore? .s.c.

Isn't it ironic that OUR government still does not recognize what its priorities are anymore? Sc, It is not OUR government; it is GYANENDRA's government. Although there are some apparently clean faces in the cabinet, this government is just a puppet of Gyanendra. I was not expecting much anyway but this is way worse than below expectation....wonder what our almost-PhD 'Gyawali dai' must be doing :) Aba Paras ko wife pregnant bhayo bhanera 9 mahinaa nai holiday huna baaki chha tetti ho. Frustrated than ever, M.P.

MP "It is not OUR government; it is GYANENDRA's government." The above statement you made may be true. But what about the government before this? Would you say that was "OUR" government? Under the current circumstances in Nepal, I really don't care who'se government it is, as long as they are capable of maintaining law and order. Once we restore the stability in the country, perhaps then, shall we worry about creating "OUR" government. Let's not argue over who'se government it is, let's try to work with what we have in place. Shall we? Just as frustrated

Well, Vision, the previous government was not completely ours. We did elect them but swayed by personal interest, they betrayed us. They were ours but not FOR us. And this time, the government is neither OF us and their indulging in ridiculous event like this at the expense of people's money explains that they are not FOR us either. So, negative one for the previous government and negative two for the present government. You said: I really don't care who'se government it is, as long as they are capable of maintaining law and order * Well, I do not care either but I DO care when a government nominated to restore peace and security in the country goes off track and does not hesistate to spend money on a project as unproductive as this; birth day celebration of a figure whose mere existence has been debated/problematic. Let his parents and his kith and kins celebrate his goddam birthday, damn it! Had this government been elected, chitta bujhaaune thaau ta huntyo: 'jhur haru laai vote diyiyechha. next time pakhlaas!' A little patience would have helped. Aba k garni? CARE garni! We are suffering from the repercussions of not being clear and loud enough earlier. Let's learn to learn from the past. You said: Once we restore the stability in the country, perhaps then, shall we worry about creating "OUR" government * Well, the person pretending to create stability right now is the main cause of instability in the country. You can not neutralize an acid with another acid. I am not ready to believe that an acid will turn into a base--base, in our case, is someone who cares for us--overnight and do a miracle! Waiting with a hope to see this miracle is a safe avenue, but not necessarily the best one. You said: * Let's not argue over who'se government it is, let's try to work with what we have in place. Shall we? I am not an 'ugrabaadi' but if NC and ML had uprooted Monarchy right in 2046, at least the Maoists would not have been able to proliferate so rapidly, convincing people with their own theories, after the Royal massacre . In fact, they might not have emerged at all. I am, therefore, skeptical about working with 'what we have in place'. Oohi, M.P.

MP, Given the current conditiion, our foremost challenge in Nepal, as we all know is not creating elected government, not development, not human rights or women rights, education or even standing up for democracy. Rahter, it is to save the coutry from its very sovereignty that we have maintained for hundreds of years. We are in grave danger of turning into the TALIBANS of Afganistan like hostility should the maoist win the war. When innocent people are being slaughtered like animals, our foremost challenge is to stop it and stop it now. Killing is never justified, whatever the cuase may be. I understand your frustration with the government and the Royals. Agreed with the point that it is really unnescessary to throw such lavish birthday party for the crown prince. But I want to point out, the people in the government are some of 'us'. The people who were in the government in our 'illusiionary' democracy were some of us. And some of us will be leading the coutry in the future. Even though you have every rights to judge their work and suspect their ethics, your statement "negative one for the previous government and negative two for the present government" tells us how cynical we are of each other. My point is only to eliminate such cynicism. Perhaps, the will help help create better atmosphere. And remember, no government will ever succeed if it doesn't have people's support.

the first thing that popped into my head when i heard about paras' birthday bash is that it almost parallels the famous "let then eat cake!" quote. it is ironic indeed that nepalnews reports about famine in the mountains during the coming months and the government has set up a committee for such a useless thing as this. shame on them......

Ironic ( by alamis morissette) An old man turned ninety-eight He won the lottery and died the next day It's a black fly in your Chardonnay It's a death row pardon two minutes too late Isn't it ironic... don't you think? It's like rain on your wedding day It's a free ride when you've already paid It's the good advice that you just didn't take Who would've thought... it figures Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye He waited his whole damn life to take that flight And as the plane crashed down he thought "Well isn't this nice..." And isn't it ironic... don't you think? It's like rain on your wedding day It's a free ride when you've already paid It's the good advice that you just didn't take Who would've thought... it figures Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you When you think everything's okay and everything's going right And life has a funny way of helping you out when You think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up In your face A traffic jam when you're already late A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife It's meeting the man of my dreams And then meeting his beautiful wife And isn't it ironic... don't you think? A little too ironic... and yeah I really do think... It's like rain on your wedding day It's a free ride when you've already paid It's the good advice that you just didn't take Who would've thought... it figures Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out Helping you out I will let our intel sajhaites decide how the song relates to the circumstances....... smell u later, dangggg

Indeed it is tragic! It is a return to the Panchayat days. Thr royals surround themselves with people who are "dhupaures" and are made to feel that they are invincible by those who use the system for their own benefits. This is a slap in the face of all Nepalese. But be assured that the monarchy is going through the last hurrah if the charade does not stop!

Kreep, One solution, trivial it may be, is: Don't waste the government money in celebrating Paras's birthday. Use it to provide food and shelter to gharbaarbihins who have fled from their villages and come to Khalanga. They need care, not Paras. It is this simple. And specific. There is nothing wrong in being "cynics and critics" about things you do not like. We are where we are now not because we were cynics and critics but because most of us were Dhupaaures. We hardly questioned what the King/his family members, or the political leaders of parties we supported, for that matter, did. "Khuttaa taanne" is one thing; "being critical" is quite another. I, for one, am not criticizing those dhupaaures for the sake of doing so. When someone is doing right and you come up with straw-man arguments to refute those good actions, that IS "khutaa taaning". If you think forming a committee of tens and tens of people to celebrate the birthday of this what someone referred to as "the CLOWN prince" is right, well, what can I say? I would be ashamed with myself for I, as a citizen of a the same country as yours, am, in a way, responsible for what YOU are. I only wish this is the "Marne belaa ko ghiu" for the monarchy!!

Hey, a common problem I have seen in Nepal is that all these politicians engage in "chakadi" even when it is not expected. I don't know if the order/suggestion to organize such a birthday bash came from the royal palace. It might not have. Perhaps, the Chand government thinks it is doing a favor to the royals by organizing such a party. I know Paras is disliked, but as long as he is the crown prince, I think there should be some kind of celebration. Perhaps not a grand one, but a small one none the less. If for no other reason than for PR purposes (looking at it from the royal family point of view of course). Now, if Paras were smart, he would come out and cancel such a celebration citing inappropriateness at a time when the nation finds itself in a dire situation. My 2 cents of course. B_D.

Panchyat days are back. Nepal's back Luck. We dont need any kind of celebration when who country is in a fire. Country is moving is back direction. Only one solution of Nepal's current crisis is to be Replubic Nepal. We dont need no Ganayendra, we dont need Paras. Soon or later Nepal will be Replubic soon. As M.P. mentioned, Congress and United Comminist front did blunder in 2046. They should have thrown Monarchy back in 2046 itself. If that had happen, there would not be Maoist problem today. Let's hope for Replubic Nepal on his birthday.

M.P. Yeah there is nothing wrong in being "cynics and critics", but it is wrong when you don't let any deed to be done by being one. I am not talking just about this event and I am not talking about you but about Nepalese as general. Congree sarkar ma hunda, kehi kaam garyo bhaney communist ko nepal bandh and rallies and what not.. and vice versa... kehi ramro kaam garyo bhaney government ma dherai bashla bhanney arko partylai pir. To tell you the truth. Most of us don't give a rat's ass about politics. Jo aye pani kaanai chireko! Reality sux big time.

How come dem people leading and doing chakadi at them both sides and when it is da brothers that is dyin? I dont hear none of dem people dying? not a single one of dem dying. It is just dem and da king of da kingdom. But one day da bottom will drop off.Just give me one of dem that died on this. None of dem smart people die but I and I is da one dying in their game. So Chant down Babylon! Jah!

batauli, Maybe it is scary, maybe it is not. If Paras is as bad as is the general perception and continues to be just as bad, then it would scary. Especially, if he learnt to play politics like that. However, if he really does do it because he is a changed man, then perhaps it is better than the alternative. After all, despite how much the public dislikes him, he is in line to the throne..... Oh well, this is all hypothetical anyway. B_D.

Vision, What's wrong with Replubic Nepal. Does it bother you if Mr. X or Y born in Jumla or Manag or Jhapa or Janakpur or Palpa ...becomes head of state of Nepal rather than one from Narayanhiti regardless how crook he is. Monarchy is bad system no matter it is absolute or consitutional. One can't be king just because of his birth in a particular place. To be leader you have to prove yourself. You have to get support of people. Time has been changed. We are no more fool now by accepting myth that king are Vishnu ko avattar. Visnu ko avatar my @$$. You might say that King has much support in Nepal. Can you prove it, if yes why they are scared for consutional assembly. Atleast you should agree King doesnt have support in Maoist controlled area ( remote village) nor in Kathamdu. The number of participant in support for King's move rally and Nepali congress's rally..compare those!! Find out the difference!!! Well, these kings never did anything good for Nepal. Now what we can expect from this King G. who can do anything for power. Tomorrow Mr. P will become king. Even thinking itself scares me, what will happen to contry when he becomes king. So why not we expect for Replubic Nepal. Why not???? Yeah I wish happy birthday to him. I wish he and his dad realize the desire of people leave country voluntarily for sake of happiness of Nepali people. Happy birthday Mr. P!
