The first snow of the season in New York City !!!

I am looking foward to a white winter, esp. becuase last year was a huge disappointment. Gorkhe-lai hiau herna kahile poogchha ra. But what a paradox. Nepalma yeta Himal, oota Himal.

That said, a colleague of mine observed the day,"Winter in the North East is nothing for you guys from the Himalayas." Hmmm!!!!!

The Royal Massacre, and Maoist insurgency notwithstanding, they still think we are all Yetis. ???!!!!!@@@####

My Dear, Many of us thought dollars grew on trees, milk and honey flowed on streets of Amrika.

Here is a poem a fourth grader wrote while I was giving a "talk" on Nepal. It was snowing outside. After I finished my "talk," she came and handed out this poem, "Ms. K., here is a poem for you!" Of course I was touched. [YOu could very well imagine how boring it must have been to sit through my yakking!]

Winter

A speck of white fluttered to the ground,
added to to the big white, cold blanket.
The large fingers tried to touch the paper
of the sky,
That was this time dabbed snow white
But the fingers could only
reach the purple mountains,
They were bare with no flowers.
A snowy white owl hooted,
Hoot, hoot,
Look! There is is hope for new
life!!
Fore there was.
A sunset had escaped out
of the white paint brushe's hand!

[Note:
There is accumulation of 3-4" where I am It stopped snowing now and looks calm outside. Just breathtaking!]

NK :) You seem to inspire poetry everywhere. And I am so poetically challenged.

VVji,
Your narration of the nazara in New York City has made me nostalgic. NYC is beautiful during winter, esp. with the snow. I miss it!! :( The Rockefeller center is brightly lit and the air is crisply cold.......

Buried nose-deep in piles of paper and books, I couldn't go home to NYC this Thanksgiving break to visit my pyaro bhai. It's the first time I'm away from him during Holidays. Yess pali ta na dashain, na tihar, na Thanksgiving---kunai pani chad-parwa ma ghar (NYC) jaana paiena! I can't wait for the semester to end and be done with my qualifying exams.....and breathe the air of my favorite place in the whole world---my dear New York City (Sidhi Charan Shrestha wrote Mero Pyaro Okhaldunga---I must write one on Mero Pyaro New York City someday!), and spend time listening to the pet-dukhingly funny jokes that my brother is marvelous at telling, and our "discussions" that never seem to conclude.

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope no one has had to stay away from his/her near and dear ones at times like these when everyone is going "home for the holidays."

In peace.
