FYI ANA Presidents Message, December 2002 Dear ANA Members and well wishers of ANA, I hope you all had a marvelous time during Dashain- Tihar festivities and Thanksgiving Holiday. Now that the festivals are over and we are back to work in a focused manner. I would like to share with you some of the events and activities that have occurred this month and some of the things that needs to be done and need help from everybody:- 1) On October 9, and November 6, 2002 I was in Prince George county Court where ANA and I were charged by P.G. County for graveling area without a grading permit. With the help of my friend Mr. Onkar Sharma of Sharma & Bhandari law firm we negotiated with P.G. County that we will obtain grading permit within 45 days as ordered by the Court. Court also ordered that no other public activities can be performed till we obtain required permit.By the way Mr. Sharma did not charge any fees for the two whole days he was in the court. On behalf of ANA I would like thank Mr. Sharma for his time and kindness to Nepalis community and NECC. 2) ANA Executive meeting was held on November 9, 2002 at our NECC Building. After a very intense discussion, heated at times, the meeting was able to agree on lots of things making it a very productive/successful meeting. ANA knows how to make win situation at the end. I would like thank all executive members and past Presidents for their efforts.. The detail of executive minutes of meeting will soon be sent out and posted in ANA web page. 3) ANA News Letter is very attractive/informative and I am sure everybody has seen it by now. We would like to thank our Chief Editor Dr. Bidya Ranjeet for her hard work. 4) We received $3500.00 again from MBNA Bank as donation to NECC. ANA/ NECC thanks MBNA Bank for their donation. ANA/NECC also thanks our Secretary Mr. Suman Timsina who played a key role to get this donation. 5) Friends we need to publish new Nepali cook book with additional recipes. Please send recipes of all Nepali dishes to Jyoty Pathak and let us publish new revised Nepali Cook Book. As you may know we have been receiving royalty from Snow Lion Publications , Inc. Recently ANA received $107.13 as a royalty again without any ANA involvement. Please help us with your recipes. 6) ANA needs the name/addresses and telephone numbers of all Nepalis living in USA, Canada, and South America to publish a new ANA directory. Our Past President Mr. Pramod Sharma has offered to pay for the printing costs. I urge all Nepalis Organizations/ individuals of Americas to provide the names and addresses along with telephone numbers to our life member Dr. Gambhir Shrestha who has agreed to do this job. We need your help. 7) Our friends in Denver are still working to negotiate the deal with hotels to finalize the venue, we will let you know the outcome as soon as it is available. 8) I am happy to inform you that NECC/ANA has received a check in the amount of $501.00 from Mr. Uttam B. Khatri as donation towards NECC construction fund. As you know, Mr. Khatri is a life member of Association of Nepalis in America and also Vice-chairman of Nepal Educational and Cultural Center. 9) As part of the ongoing fund raising effort NECC would also like to take this opportunity to support and endorse Mr. Khatri's fund raising proposal which was published in ANA and ANS's newsletters, few months back. Mr. Khatri's proposal, also known as the his Real Estate referral, can raise thousands of dollars for NECC annually if Nepali community across the United States participate in his plan. All it needs is a call to Mr. Khatri whenever someone is ready to buy, sell or even rent an apartment. He would then, acting as a Real Estate referral agent, help close the transaction. Mr. Khatri has offered to donate 50% of the commission earned through his out of State referral business. This is an excellent source of fund raising which can generate substantial amount each year and all we need is your help and cooperation in this. Mr. Khatri can be reached at 301 431-7564. 9) During the Thanksgiving holidays Anil Pathak, Co-Chair of the local fund raising committee and myself met with Miss Manisha Koirala, Nepali/ Indian Superstar on November 28,2002 at Mr. Praveen and Mrs Chetna Dixit's resident. Ms Manisha Koirala accepted our fund raising proposal for NECC while she visits the USA next time in March or early April of 2003. The exact dates of her arrival will be confirmed by Ms. Koirala some time in January. This will be a big Fund raising event for NECC, let us find the best way to utilized her talent and fame. 10) Mr. Samba Pathak, son of Mr. And Mrs. Anil Pathak, 6 month old Samba donated $1,150 (gifts from his Pasni ) to NECC. ANA/ NECC is proud of the young Pathak and his parents for the generous thought. ANA/ NECC appreciates it, makes Samba Pathak ANA's life member. It is a great inspiration for others to follow. Finally, I urge every ANA member to be nice and respectful to each other like the saying goes " it is nice to be a important person but it is very important to be nice" Let us focus on ANA issues not personal without forgetting that ANA belong to all its members and friends and not to a few individuals. Let us do something meaningful and make good things happen. Shallow talks and promises are meaningless. We need unity to make ANA a better organization. Thanks. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year 2003 to all of you and God Bless you. Krishna Nirola President- ANA PS; I moved and my new address is 12535 Grey Fox Lane, Potomac MD 20854.
