Oys & Rusty,

Mavs are still the best team in the league. I think Lakers will be out of Play Off this season. So There is still long way to go. And we are not ready to accept Defeat!! Ok. Understand?

Just kidding!
kool_dude Posted on 12-Dec-02 09:32 AM

Agree with oys_chill and Rusty,

MAVA will have tough time against four team....1) Lakers, 2) Kings, 3) Spurs, and 4) Rockets.......Hey MAVS fan...dream on for playoff win...thats the only things gonna happen....Just dream on...but not in real....:)
DWI Posted on 12-Dec-02 10:02 AM

After watching Lakers and Mavs playing, and seeing Kobe explode like that, I couldn't stop asking myself a question: WHO IS THE BEST YOUNG PLAYER IN NBA? He has to have potential to explode even further more. Lets not count Shaq and Answer right now, they've already proven the best of them. My list:
Not in order

1. Kobe Bryant
2. Tracy McGrady
3. Dirk Nowitzky
4. Yao Ming
5. Paul Pierce
6. Vince Carter
7. Jermaine O'Neal

LeBron James shouldn't count.
Uptil that game between the Lakers and Mavs, I thought Tracy McGrady had the highest potential if he puts 100% in the game. But now, I am very very impressed by Kobe. Never saw him playing like that, He could penetrate any layer of Mavs Defense (not that they are superb on defense, but still).

What do u guys think? Any more person to add on the list?
kool_dude Posted on 12-Dec-02 11:01 AM

DWI

Agree with you..However, I would like to add which I think he is also one of the best young NBA player (After watching NBA so far this season)...Steve Francis....I would give him #4 on your list...
Shiva Shiva!! Posted on 12-Dec-02 01:09 PM

DWI, I agree with your list.

Kool Dude, without scoring and wining in regular season no team gets in the play offs. So talk about the present, not the future.

Ki kaso ho Rusti?
Rusty Posted on 12-Dec-02 01:34 PM

DWI,
First of all, young = age??? Less than 25? Less than 30??
DWI Posted on 12-Dec-02 02:22 PM

I wasn't adhering to any age limit, Rusty. I meant a young player who has shown lots of skill and who has potential to show even more and dominate the league.
U're right, my list didn't follow the age criteria, but now the definition is redined, what do you and other guys think?

I mean can you add more to the list (like Steve's addition by Kool) or can you pick one player from the list that you think is the best?
Rusty Posted on 12-Dec-02 02:48 PM

Ok...let's look at the age < = 30

Nowitzki
Iverson
Kobe
Pierce
TMac
Carter
J O'Neal
Richard Jefferson
S. Francis

more later...
DWI Posted on 12-Dec-02 02:52 PM

Hmmm... I am assuming that was in the order. Nowitzki at the top, a future Larry Bird eh? Richard Jefferson, yeah he does have a potential. But man, I hate every single player from the NJ Nets (except Kidd).
Rusty Posted on 12-Dec-02 03:00 PM

DWI
I am being honest this time. Here is the list of teams and players I really hate:

1. NJ Nets
2. Spurs
3. Heat (Bichara haro)
4. Raptors

Sabai...knicks ko enemies haro...

Yes, Nowitki is on the top...coz he has done a lot to put the team on the top ..overall:)

I could put Kobe at last.. but my inner-self doesn't allow me:)
Shiva Shiva!! Posted on 12-Dec-02 03:48 PM

Rusty,
Thanks for putting a Mav in the No.1 SpOt. Finally, you are becoming little fair!
Rusty Posted on 12-Dec-02 03:52 PM

Shiva
I am just appriciating Dirk N. as a player...not the whole team:)
sanunani Posted on 12-Dec-02 04:18 PM

Well...Rusty-ji coming up with lame excuses after losing a game??--nah....i won't do that, that's just not me.

Yes, Spurs seemed very strong and focussed. I give'em credit for their hard earned victory of last night.

But It ain't over until the fat lady sings.!!

So don't predict MAVS losing streah HAI!!!
DWI Posted on 12-Dec-02 05:29 PM

FUTURE MICHAEL JORDAN!!! Lebron Jaimes

IF you wanna see him playing and if you have cables, watch it tonight (Thursday, Dec 12) on ESPN 2 at 7:30 pm EST.

I might have mentioned about Lebron Jaimes earlier, well every body is anticipating a lot from this high school superstar. Last time they checked his height, it was 6'6'' (like MJ) but he has grown since then. He is a prospective 1st round- 1st pick in next year's NBA draft and Knicks, Bulls and other teams are coveting highly on this shooting guard.

I hope he lives up to the hype, atleast tonight in simple high-school basketball, first time being televised on ESPN (his game). I have seen him playing, but didn't find anything compelling in a short duration. Will wait to see him playing tonight, entire media is focused on that.
AX Posted on 12-Dec-02 09:21 PM

ALL the basketball fans out there:

where's the name of TD???

I would like the ball either TD's or Iverson possesion.

How can you add Yaos name there, has he played enuf games to know how good of a player he is???
Kool_dude Posted on 13-Dec-02 09:07 AM

Shiva,
Sure, lets talk about present...

AX bro,
Iverson is the best player....if I have to give rank, I will put him on the top...

How about Yao is emerging best rokie player of the year? Lets cheer for Asian dude...:)

Yeah DWI,
FUTURE MICHAEL JORDAN!!! Lebron Jaimes...he is something to watch...
AX Posted on 13-Dec-02 09:23 AM

K_D; I think you are right about the Iverson. His team win/loss depends on his scoring ability.

Yao is great. His future seems to be good in Houston as long as Steve Francis is there. Because of Francis' penetration, he is getting easy baskets. But I think Dwight Gooden deserves the Rookie Player of the year so far.

Lebron James, another MJ??? He seems more like a TMAC of a player. Let's wait 3-4 more years for him to mature and he will be able to play competitively in NBA. Weren't Penny, G-Hill were the next MJ few years ago? where are they now?
DWI Posted on 13-Dec-02 11:13 AM

Right on Kool_Dude
Ax, Yao's name in there is because of how all the teams have made him a coveted prospect and how he has potential to to be above 25 pts guy after few years. Yao hasn't played enough game but you can atleast draw some educated conclusions by how he is playing and what are his physical composures are. Nobody is saying he will be next Wilt Chamberlain or Kareem Abdul Jabbar, but hey, he has the potentials.

About Lebron, I agree that too much of hype has been circulated for the kid. U're right, Penny, G-Hill and even Larry Johnson (name derived from Larry Bird and Majic Johnson) and recently Kwami Brown were hyped to be the next big thing. But they are hypes and we should treat them as one, not flow too much on them neither outrightly reject them.

His game yesterday was okay. My view on this is that, he is way too good for a High School player. He is two steps ahead of his opponents, but can the development rate continue when he matures further? If this is the skill he is gonna bring to NBA, he will be as good as Kwame is; trust me the kid has skills. But to be the next big thing, he has to keep on developing more physics and skills.

Ax, who TD? Sorry it went over my head, can you elaborate?
AX Posted on 13-Dec-02 01:48 PM

DWI, agree with you about Yao. He is a good player and improving but why are putting his name in the list. All the above players that you guys mentioned have played at least 2 years. He has not even played 20 games in NBA so far (have not checked the gmae played status). He is a 15 10 player at this moment and could be 22 12 career player. It would have been okay if this list was 2 years down the road.

And about the LeBron James, he definately has great potential. He is locked for the overall #1 for the coming year draft. Hopefully your and rusty's Knicks will get him. I think comparing him to TMAC is already big thing. TMAC is one of the superstar of the NBA at this time. He needed three years to develop in the shadow Vince Carter in Toronto. In few years, we sure will be talking more about LeBron James and Yao as well.

TD = one and only Tim Duncan
DWI Posted on 13-Dec-02 02:04 PM

AX,

I have no clue how I didn't included Tim Duncan on the list. He certainly is among the best of the best and deserves a very high rank.
U're right about Yao, may be I am just following the hype. I am giving him the advantage of the height and the fact that he can make jump shots and plays nice low post.
AX Posted on 13-Dec-02 04:06 PM

It happens while the team are not playing good. Hoping he will team up with JKIDD for the championship. Wherever they go they will be be favorite to win (hopefully not west)

About LeBron James; wish Knicks can pick him in the draft so that I will be able to watch some games :)
OneGirl_123 Posted on 14-Dec-02 04:52 PM

College Basketball....
Today Florida Gators own vs. Maryland terps! :(

I wanted MD to win! damn!

But its ok Juan Dixon is hot! GO JUAN! ;)
OneGirl_123 Posted on 14-Dec-02 04:55 PM

oopps! Typo:: I meant Florida Gators WON! not "own"
lol
OneGirl_123 Posted on 14-Dec-02 04:56 PM

Rusty thought Iverson was less than 25? he 30?

oh well hes hot too ;)
Blaze Posted on 14-Dec-02 09:36 PM

Dang!! Didn't know Neps were so into hoopin' it up. Its all good though. Yao "Dynasty" Ming is the next dominant center in NBA.. y'all heard this from me first. Show 'em how we Asians get down "Mr. Ming" (lol cant believe Shaq called him that). Dajuan Wagner and Yao are two of my fav rookies so far.. Mike Dunleavy Jr.. the most disappointing player so far.

Lebron James is ill for a High School player man.. but so was Kobe, T-Mac, Steph, KG and them.. I don't understand why the media be hypin' this kid so much.. They making him to be the savior of some sort.. He ain't no Next Jordan.. there can only be one MJ man.. the media needs to get off Lebron Jame's d!ck and let him do his thing. If all these people who put so much HOPE on him.. and he doesn't live upto the hype.. Lebron will be the one to suffer at the end man.. look at what's happening to Vince Carter right now.. whatever tho..

I hope Lebron do live up to his expections and prove me wrong know I mean.. but the people should let him be a 17 year old kid man.. let him live his live and stop puttin' so much pressure on him at his tender age.

Another High School to look out for is Sabastian Telfair (Stephon Marbury's cousin).. this guy is sick as f*ck too man.. mad handles and shit.. he's dope to watch. Reminds me of me man. lol except he's way illier. Watch out for his name to explode after Lebron James turns pro.

Anyway people drop your thoughts.. I'd like to engage myself in this discussion man.. cool.

PS: Iverson is 27 yrs old.
DWI Posted on 14-Dec-02 09:46 PM

Da Dawg's on the house???
Welcome homie, Blaze, to da hood and that's all yapping I 'ma do.

He he, not my niche though. I am better off speaking plain english.
No doubt, there cannot be another MJ, even MJ cannot top himself. As I said ealrier Lebron in too good from HighSchool standard but is he gonna hold up to the hype when he steps in to the NBA? Never heard of Sabastian... Is he the kid from New York who works out early in the morning in his stair case and everything?

Rusty, Did you hear Doleac's comment. Sounds like he can make a comeback this season. That is, if Knicks are in a good position for playoffs. Otherwise, it'd be wise to start loosing and hoping for Lebron James. Knicks were beaten bad by Boston. Only wish if we could beat those Nets.
Rusty Posted on 14-Dec-02 11:08 PM

OneGirl,
FYI...Iverson's profile:
DOB- 06/07/75 [ but he got a daughter]
Height - Just 6 ft [ Believe it or not...he can dunk:) ]
Weight: 165 lbs.
College: Georgetown '98 [comes from your territory ]

Blaze
Your presence just blazed this thread. FYI...we have been doing this thread for long time. See..we have already hit one longest thread:)

DWI,
I am so busy these days. I will be out of Sajha for a month; I am visiting Nepal for a month, so you may not see me around. Hope the Knicks will do better next season.

Keep this thread alive till I come back:)
DWI Posted on 14-Dec-02 11:24 PM

Hmmm.. Rusty, Is there some sort of conspiracy going on? My gf is going to Nepal next week too.

Hope you have a great time there. The thread will be up and ignited, as long as there are contributors like Ax, Sanunani, Shiva, OneGirl, Oys_Chill etc.
Blaze Posted on 15-Dec-02 01:29 AM

Whut up DWI and Rusty! Thanks for the warm reception. I'm new on this sajha board.. and I must admit, this is the only place I have seen so far where Neps hold so much knowledge and show interest in the sport of basketball. Cool..

DWI: Sebastian Telfair is another High School sensation like Lebron James.. he attends Lincoln High school in Coney Island, NY.. he also has a famous cousin in Stephon Marbury who plays PG for Phoenix Suns. Here is his profile:

Sebastian Telfair
Birthdate: 6/9/85
NBA Position: Point Guard
College: Undecided
Class: HS Junior
Ht: 6-0
Wt: 160
Hometown: Brooklyn, NY
High School: Lincoln

This dude has been talked about in Slam magazine since he was in 7th grade..

About Allen Iverson.. yes, he is only 6'0ft, but he got those long ass arms and 40" inch verticle.. you should've seen his games when he was still in Georgetown.. he would dunk on every opportunity he got.. that is the reason why Iverson was mentioned in Slam Magazine's top 50 greatest dunkers of all time :)

Iverson has two children.. a daughter and a son (Deuce).. The reason why I'm checking Dajuan Wagner's game is becaues that dude reminds me so much of A.I

What y'all think of And1 mix tapes? Feel free to drop your opinions.

Rusty, have a nice trip to Nepal yo.

Peace
OneGirl_123 Posted on 15-Dec-02 09:13 AM

I don't care how old Iverson is....is still HOT!

Rusty? u leaving for a month?? aww we gonna miss u! Have fun though!
kool_dude Posted on 15-Dec-02 09:35 AM

Rusty,
Have a nice trip to Nepal....

OneGirl_123,
If you are Iverson fan or Sixers fan...?? Just wondering, since you are from Wizzard teritory and cheering for Juan Dixon....) I hope MD will overcome will have great season...they will be killer for Duke and NC...
AX Posted on 15-Dec-02 11:50 AM

Rusty , we will miss ya. Have a great time in Nepal

Wasn't Wizars drafted Juan Dixon. Someone saw him playing Vs Gators??? It could be someone was watching ESPN classic.
OneGirl_123 Posted on 15-Dec-02 11:59 AM

Kool_dude....ima IVERSON fan....hehe...Sixers aint that bad either though, they good
DWI Posted on 15-Dec-02 12:59 PM

Blaze, that's who I was talking about. Stephon Marbury's causin rang the bell. I've heard he wakes up early in the morning (4am) and practices which can be parallel only to the Football players. But his physique isn't that great.

OneGirl is a pakka fan of Iverson eh? He sure is the greatest player there was for that height. Blaze brought a good point about his long arms, I hadn't thought about that. No wonder other 6 footers cannot dunk.

So far I have seen Mavs, Lakers, Knicks and Wizards fans in this board, I am sensing a new team: Sixers.
Blaze Posted on 15-Dec-02 06:31 PM

DWI bro, I'm not saying Iverson can dunk only because of his long arms.. Dr. J, VC, Kobe, T-mac, KG all have super long arms. Iverson would be able to dunk even if his arms were average length because he has a vertical jump of 40" inch.. Steve Francis however, has short arms.. and small palm for his size.. and he still manages to produce highlight reels because he jumps about 44" inch off the ground. There are few shorter dunkers like Spud Webb 5'7 and Speedy Claxton 5'10.. There was also a rumour about a 5'2 ft dunker.. but I guess that's just a myth.

Anyway, we should start a new thread for dunking only. lol

OneGirl, much props to you for holdin' it down for the ladies. Your boy Iverson will probably come out on top this season with regular season MVP if T-Mac's bad back continues to bother him.. Watch out for Kev Garnett. This dude is having a dope season. It's just stupid how the media hardly hypes up KG.. they always seem to be on Kobe or T-Mac's nuts..

DWI: I think you and I are on same page.. that has to be Sebastian Telfair... He does work hard though.. T-Mac used to wake up at 5am and run 5 miles everyday when he was in H.School too.

I should stop writing these long ass comments man. lol

Peace
OneGirl_123 Posted on 15-Dec-02 07:41 PM

Blaze, i don't care if Iverson goes to the top professionaly, he'll always be the top one for me! LOL ;)
DWI Posted on 15-Dec-02 09:56 PM

Insightful stats Blaze. What can I say, motivates me to try dunking now. OneGirl_123, the last senetence, is that supposed to be taken Literally?
DWI Posted on 16-Dec-02 01:11 PM

Has anybody heard of this Yougoslavian Phenom, 16 years old , 7'0'' Darko Milicic ?
He is one of the best emerging player from Yougoslavia and can dunk in a crowd and dribble like a point guard. He might make Lebron 2nd draft pick, following ESPN.
OneGirl_123 Posted on 16-Dec-02 02:54 PM

DWI, no don't take that sentence literally..hehe :)
kool_dude Posted on 16-Dec-02 06:02 PM

DWI,

Thanks for info on Darko Milicic.Sounds like he will be first rounder first pick or not less than second.......Just wonderin, if there is minimun age limit to play NBA??
DWI Posted on 16-Dec-02 07:38 PM

Kool_dude, great question. As far as I know, David Stern was hell-bent to impose the age limit criteria for NBA players. I had heard the question repetatively a couple of years ago (around 1999 or 2000), but haven't heard it recently. There were players opposing it.
Unless I missed something, there isn't any age limit in NBA as of now. Kwame Brown was drafted a year ago and Darko Milicic is considering NBA next year, so apparently there is none. If they ever enforce the limit, I think it will be from 18 to 21 years old.
kool_dude Posted on 16-Dec-02 11:30 PM

Thanks DWI for information...
DWI Posted on 17-Dec-02 09:38 PM

Have Finals going on and watched Knicks vs Nets tonight. But it sure was worth it. Blabber Mouth Rich. Jefferson and Byron Scott put their own feet in their mouth. We beat 'em fair and square.
Boy sure miss Rusty, and other Knicks fan out there? Or is it just Mavs and Lakers!!!
oys_chill Posted on 17-Dec-02 11:47 PM

dwi bro,
u r not one sole advocate of this thread, believe me ;)

jus finals ko tension ni! ..... well, u know why lakers are not playing well? they lack this chemistry....their no. 1 fan is not watching their games ni :P ..all they need is my positive energy......jus see what i mean from next game:P....i got a story of lakers to share with you guys...i aint supporting them jus for their dominance......like you, i guess am a big time underdog fan!

keep it real..gluck with those hooping it up with exams! yo blaze, need a character like you in the sports arena! cheers

chill chill
oys
DWI Posted on 18-Dec-02 12:24 AM

True Oys. Finals are killing.
So, I guess when Oys's finals are over, Lakers will start winning; they will get that missing piece in their team. No doubt, they are loosing because of lack of team chemistry. Shaq is predictably dominant, but Kobe is unpredictably, uncontainable. U will soon be overdog, if there is any such word.

Good luck for the finals everybody and happy holidays for the ones who don't have any finals.

thepeacekeeper Posted on 20-Dec-02 03:29 AM

Apparently, there is a rule that says you have to be 18 at least 45 days before the draft - I'm not sure if this is only for foreign players, because I remember Kobe was 17 when he was drafted. Unless Stern waives this rule for Drako, he'll only be eligible for the draft in 2004.

I saw some clips of Drako, and he is a KG clone (coincidentally, I read somewhere that KG's his favorite player too). He is the real deal and if the GMs were smart enough, they'd take him over the over-over-over-overhyped Lebron James, if they both are available in next year's draft.

What a short memory the American media has. Didn't the US recently lose 3 games at the World Championships because all their players were one-on-one types lacking consistent jump shots? Dick Vitale and Bill Walton were gushing so profusely about LeBron in that ESPN2 game that I wanted to bang their heads with a hammer! Chill, for God's sake! The guy shot just 12-25 against high school kids, missing all but 2 of his jump shots and they're already labeling him the "Chosen One". Its sickening how the so-called experts ooh and aah-ed his dunks and failed to criticize his shortcomings. Network pawns.. baah!! And somebody knock some air out of Lebron's over-inflated ego - he calls himself "King James", refers to himself in third person during interviews and wears an armband that says "Chosen One". In the ESPN2 game, his headband had an NBA logo on it; the rest of his team wore ones with an Adidas logo (the team sponsor).

There are a lot of skilled players in the NBA, but only a handful are great players. It is difficult to predict greatness and skill alone isn't a good determinant. Most likely, he'll be drafted by one of the worst teams and noone knows how he'll handle himself playing for a losing team. Will he be motivated to get better? Will he spend countless hours in the gym like Jordan or Kobe, trying to improve his game? He may be used to the fame, but how disciplined will he be after he gets the fortune in the NBA? There are a lot of intangibles that determine just how great a player can become. Ever since Kobe was drafted 13th, everyone is vying for the next great player coming out of high school and they're going to fail far more often than not.

This guy is being set up to become one of the biggest busts in the NBA. He might turn out to be a good player, but he'll be considered a failure because of all the expectations thrust upon him already. The media just loves to put players on a pedestal and then bring them down with a thud. Just look at Vince Carter and you'll know what I mean.

More ramblings to come.......

PS - Yao Ming is becoming a favorite player of mine. Love to watch his games. The sweet jump shots, the nimble footwork - now there's a player who's slowly justifying all the hype! I have a feeling he's going to permanently replace Shaq on the Western All-Star team, because the Chinese will probably vote like crazy on the internet!
kool_dude Posted on 20-Dec-02 10:34 PM

Another loss for LAKERS....seems like someone had final exam...:)
kool_dude Posted on 24-Dec-02 09:28 AM

To all sport fan out there..........Happy x-mas and New Year.......

Wish you all........all the best !
kool_dude Posted on 27-Dec-02 02:47 PM

What's up all the NBA fan...hey all you are still on holiday....???
DWI Posted on 30-Dec-02 01:43 PM

Hey Kool
Yeah, Finals and X-mas (or Kwanaza, or Channukah) hangover. We're back (but knicks ain't). Mavs beat Knicks bad. How about Don Nelson saying that they regretted letting Kurt Thomas go as a free agent?
Kool_dude Posted on 30-Dec-02 03:19 PM

Welcome back DWI...

Well bro...sorry to hear about Knicks....wich them a luck...:)
Kool_dude Posted on 30-Dec-02 03:20 PM

correction......

Wish them (Knicks and fan) a luck..:)
DWI Posted on 30-Dec-02 06:11 PM

Thanks Kool_dude,

But as you know, like a hopeless Railroad crossing which doesn't know that the train track was removed years ago, I still will be watching their game. Tonight, Spurs vs Knicks. Lets take the 1999 finals revenge, re kya.

Where are the Mavs fan?
sanunani Posted on 30-Dec-02 07:55 PM

Hey DWI,

MAVS fans are back....

tsk tsk Knicks fan.....MAVS beating 'em by 25 points ..man! that was a bummer for Knicks huh!Knicks fan >>>>>> You might have to reconsider who you support eh! ;)

May the force be with MAVS!
DWI Posted on 30-Dec-02 09:25 PM

Sanunani ko Jiskaune bani

Mavs beat Knicks, expected. Hey, we beat Spurs today and it was worth all the chills. Seems like Lakers fans are really down, except Kool_Dude.
OneGirl_123 Posted on 31-Dec-02 09:27 AM

Aren't MAVS playing the Sixers on Sat??

hmmm lets see who wins!

:)
DWI Posted on 05-Jan-03 01:00 PM

Why is this thread dying every now and then?

Hmmm...Knicks are the 9th team in the east and 8 teams make it to playoffs. We have 3 or 4 tough games coming up, magic, Pacers and 76ers. Rest of the schedule is easy. Looking forward to the return of McDyess this season.

Looks like Laker's management still don't want to accept the reality.
oys_chill Posted on 06-Jan-03 01:21 PM

DWI bro,

there's calm before the storm ;)!!!

eheh i guess i will have to sit courtside from now on~~

oys
Shiva Shiva!! Posted on 06-Jan-03 02:34 PM

All the fan here in this thread,

What MAVS are lacking? Can they become super star this season? despite their best record I still have the doubts. What you guys are thinkging about mavs??
DWI Posted on 06-Jan-03 02:52 PM

Shiva, You have good reasons to have the doubts.

Last year, I predicted MAVS would be the biggest competition to Lakers as soon as they signed Van Exel and LaFrentz (Knicks were trying them), they didn't loose much on that trade. They didn't turn out to be that good.

This year they are having their best season. They are good in almost every field. Good Point Guard in Steve Nash and Van Exel, exceptional center in Dirk Nowitzki and good replacement in Raef LaFrentz and good shooter in Finley. They have even good owner in Mark Cuban and good coach in Don Nelson. They are one of the few teams that has a luxury of its best player having an off day and still winning the game because of so many other better players.

But is that good enough? They are good in every category but aren't best in any. Dirk in not the best center, Van Exel or Nash aren't the best point guard. But assembly of so many good talents are good enough for atleast 65 wins in 82 games schedule.

How about Playoffs and championship games? We have to consider the challenges. Their best competition in the west are from Lakers(still?), Kings, Spurs and Blazers.
Spurs and Blazers will have better year than last year, but may not be able to beat Mavs because they don't have distributed shooters around the court. If Lakers make it to playoff, then they can beat Mavs, I think. But lets also put them aside. The only threat is from Kings and that will be real tough to predict. Kings, with Chris, Mike Bibby, Predrag, Divac, Doug Christie and Bobby Jackson (he has about 19-20 ppg, dig it?) are very similar to Mavs. Both team are meeting each other on Jan 15 and that game will be a preview of the Western Conference Final.

In east, they will have a fair competition from the Nets and Pacers. Boston, Orlando, Detroit and Philly can do nothing against Dallas.

So, I think it is a great time to be Mavs Fan. If not, then lets live life on the other end, lets be Knicks fan , he he.
everythingzen21 Posted on 06-Jan-03 07:37 PM

GET OVER PROFESSIONAL SPORTS FELLAS...ESPECIALLY THE WAY THE NBA IS...ITS DISGUSTING HOW THE COMPETITIVE SPIRIT OF TEAMS ARE SO ABSENT IN THIS ERA OF BULKY CONTRACTS, FREE AGENCY AND SALARY CAP. THE NBA IS A SAD AND DISGUSTING EXAMPLE OF HOW UNPROFESSIONAL THE ENVIORNMENT HAS GOTTEN...HOW DO YOU VALUE ATHELETES LIKE KEVIN GARNETT AND MANY OTHERS GETTING THESE 100 MILLION CONTRACTS? WHAT HAVE TEAMS LIKE THE TIMBERWOLVES TO SHOW FOR, FOR THOSE HUGE INVESTMENTS?THE SCORING IN GAMES ARE DRAMATICALLY DOWN COMPARED TO THE WAY IT WAS WHEN THE CELTICS LAKERS AND BULLS RULED...THE FIGHTS, SCANDALS HAVEN'T WE SEEN ENOUGH? ITS SUCH A BUSINESS....YOU HARDLY HAVE THE QUALITY OF COMPETITIVENESS AND TEAM SPIRIT AS BEFORE....IF YOU SCROLL DOWN THE STANDINGS THESE DAYS YOU CAN'T HELP BUT BE PERPLEXED AT THE DISPARITY IN THE LEAGUE...IN THE END, OVERPRICED OVERHYPED, WHERE IS THE FIRE AND DRAMA? WATCH COLLEGE SPORTS..MUCH MORE REALISM THERE...SEEN THE 49ERS AND GIANTS? NOW THATS SPORTS...NBA...NOTE MAKING AND BURSAR ASSOCIATION....
OneGirl_123 Posted on 06-Jan-03 08:26 PM

Everythinhzen21....who cares about them contracts and the investments?? I dont! are u gonna pay their salary?? NO...so dont sweat it! as long as its entertaining i really dont think it matters! thats my opinion :)

:)
DWI Posted on 07-Jan-03 06:57 PM

Everythinhzen21, I think you have a point on that the bad economical aspect is affecting the professional sports. But as OneGirl_123 pointed out, lets just look at what how it is played rather than how it was made possible.
As far as the college sports being better than professional sports, I've heard that argument hundred of times, how College Football is played with a better game plays and how NBA is all about body but college basketball is about athleticism and everything. Well to that argument, I have only one answer, Professional Sports are the Heavyweights whereas College sports are Lightweights. Lightweight boxers are artistic, athletic and they are fun to watch. But you get the biggest kick from Heavyweight, not too much of drama: one punch-solid punch. Now few people like to watch Heavy weight and others light or even feather weight games.
oys_chill Posted on 08-Jan-03 02:11 PM

what do u expect next?? I expect a THROW DOWN by diesel.........hold on to yor seats!

No doubt in my mind that Kobe broke the record in 3 pointers because of Oys_chill. Congrats, hope that awakens Lakers and Dallas fans would have something to get excited too.

Thakkar Sharma Posted on 09-Jan-03 09:38 PM

I like DWI's analysis. MAVs are in crossroad. They think, they will be better off when French lands in Mav's dress. It's very difficult to predict the fate of MAVs. Sometime they play like a s......Recently they are having a king of roller coaster ride in their performace. This is kind of bad signal specially for the team who is a strong contender for the championship. It's their bad luck they are in west. Good luck for MAVs.
DWI Posted on 10-Jan-03 10:46 AM

Thanks Thakkar jee.

Knicks aren't gonna give me the pleasure soon, but Nets sure did yesterday. They lost big time, to the Sac Kings. Hope Jefferson got his mouth(or lips) full.
kool_dude Posted on 12-Jan-03 12:19 AM

....Sorry DWI bro....Knicks fall to Wizzzard....:)
guy Posted on 12-Jan-03 02:27 PM

Who'll beat the Mavs??......We have a couple to rely on....The Kings could be an options....The NJ Nets.....le ke garchha ki.....but the most I could rely on : the 3 in a row...NBA champs...with my man, Kobe Bryant sure will stop the Mavs.... They didn't do well in the pre season....tara playoffs pachhi.....u'll figure it out....!!!! Kobe just set a record for the most 3 pointers......He had 12 three pointers......leading the games' scoring man with a 45 point...
DWI Posted on 12-Jan-03 09:09 PM

Kool_dude bro, Knicks will win atleast 7 of their next 10 games and we should be back in the playoff scenario. I am hopeful about Jan and Feb. If McDyess comes after that then we have a shot.
As far as I remember you are Rockets (and Wizards) fans right? I support both of them and not to mention, Lakers too.

Yao Ming received the highest total of All Star votes. That may be because of NBA allowing Chinese fans to vote (from China), but that shouldn't deprive him the congratulations.
kool_dude Posted on 13-Jan-03 12:21 PM

DWI,

Yes, i am Wizzard and Rockets fan..I used to be also Knicks fan back when Patric Ewing wa playing.....Yeah, It will be great lift for Knicks, if McDyess will play in Feb...I still think Knicks have great shot on 8th playoff spot as long as they will get W againts east rival...They have lost so many close game they should have won...anyway, I wish all knicks fan best of luck....

But no for Lakers and MAVS......:)

I bet Ming will score 20+ and 10+ rebounds tonight. Can somebody tell me who beat the Mavs in privious games?
DWI Posted on 17-Jan-03 02:34 PM

Rusty is BAAACK!

So when are you starting a thread about your recent Kathmandu Experience? Eager to read about it man.

Things are alright, NFL feaver is over for us New Yawkers. Knicks are where they were before you left. Nothing special. In baseball, El Douque got traded to Blue Jays ( I think). The trade was to prevent Boston from getting Bartolo Colon.

Welcome back.
kool_dude Posted on 17-Jan-03 03:52 PM

Welcome back Rusty,

Will backed your prediction.......:)
Rusty Posted on 17-Jan-03 05:56 PM

DWI,
Thanks bro. I enjoyed every moment I spent in Nepal. I can’t articulately write down my travel experience with good literature, but I will try sometime later….

Looks like all American sports have reached to their pinnacle point in my absence. I am having hard time catching up sport news, scores, and stats. To be honest, I had to ask Oys_Chill to find out which teams were playing in AFC and NFC championship games. NE Pats ain’t there, so I care less whoever wins the super bowl this year. Nevertheless, I feel sorry for the Jets’ loss with the Raiders... I have a hunch that the Raiders have the opportunity to re-establish their commitment to excellence with the super bowl win this year.

How about the Lakers? Are they on their way to cross the threshold of the play-offs? After all, they are three times defending champs, and I believe they will make the play-offs at any cost. And we never know what happens when they have best of 5 and best of 7 play-offs. What’s going on with my Knickerbockers? Looks like they are creeping up their wins, despite the fact that they won’t make the play-offs. Is their any possibility of Mcdyess’s come back this season? The Knicks would certainly make play-offs if they had him active. Well, it was just another unfortunate for our team to have this big man on the injure list.

More later... curious to see tonight's game:)
GUY Posted on 19-Jan-03 08:28 AM

I can't believe....the lakers lost on Friday night's battle against.....the Houston Rockets!!...Saale Ming blocked Shaq's 3 shots in the first 3 minutes....He's a real rookie!!.....What's up with Kobe??....He just had 22 points....Damn!!!!.....What a night for Steve Francis.....His League's highest points..!! Rusty Posted on 22-Jan-03 02:43 PM

Who would be the regular season MVP?
-- If the Mavs hold the best record till the end of season, Dirk Nowitzki has better chance to be the MVP. Otherwise, MVP award will go to either C Webber or Tim Duncan. I will be happier if Webber gets it because he has been struggling for the award in the past few season. In spite of Mike Bibby’s over-hype, I still think C Webber is the only trustable and steadfast player who can lead the Kings to the championship games. I don't think TMac has any chance for the award even though he holds the scoring title...

Defensive player of the year: Ben Wallace (100% sure)

Rookie of the year: unpredictable. There are too many rookie competitors: Amare Stoudemire , Yao Ming, Dajuan Wagner. Who do you think?
DWI Posted on 22-Jan-03 03:06 PM

Rusty,

As u said, Defensive player is a lock for Ben Wallace.
I think Rookie of the year will go to Yao.

MVP is hard to predict. I doubt Webber will get it. If Nets had hold onto a reputable loss against the Mavs, I think J. Kidd would have won it finally this time. Here are my four picks:
1. Chris Webber
2. Jason Kidd
3. Tracy McGrady
4. Tim Duncan
Rusty Posted on 22-Jan-03 03:23 PM

DWI
I also doubt Webber will get MVP.... But, he got the knack of MVP!! Look at his scoring 23 ppg, rbs 10.20, and assist 5.4. His team still holds the good record, so I don't see any reasons why he can't be the MVP 02-03?? But, TD also has much similar stats: 23.5 PPT, 12.40 RB, and 3.8 A. Yeah, it's hard to predict who will hold the title. However, I didn't understand why you skipped the most probable MVP candidate- Dirk Nowitzki in your list??

I think TMac won't be able to receive the award because of his team record.
DWI Posted on 22-Jan-03 10:21 PM

Looks like C.Webb has a good chance because of the way his team is playing. I doubt they will award MVP to Dirk yet. He might have to wait a year or two. U're right about T-Mac. I wish atleast one player from Suns were considered too, Marion or Marbury anyone.

Rusty, saw Knicks tonight? They aren't playing that great but are winning lately. Obviously, they have the easiest schedule going on right now. Dallas are the only major obstacle. This is the make or break time. By Feb 20, they should be within top 8 teams in the east. McDyess can make a comeback after that. Otherwise, it would be wise to keep loosing and hope for LeBron James.
k_loaded Posted on 22-Jan-03 11:08 PM

whats up everybody?
How can you talk about mvp and not include kobe? Ok ....the champs arent doing good and making it to playoff is still a doubt. But kobe is still the biggest threat to any of the mentioned mvp candidate if lakers make it to the playoffs. look at his stat!!! sencond in the league in scoring, leads the league in tripple-doubles, solid rebounding avg for a guard and he averages around 6-7 assists per game, has good free throw percentage(well he can shoot for the downtown too) and can make it to first defensive team this season. Any all rounder in the league better than kobe? prove it!
Other candidate you guys missed is kevin Garnet who plays superb on both front and back court as Tim Duncan does.(They both gonna make it to the first defensive team, i guess). Fourth one would be webber and the rest would just make it as a candidate.

This is only MY predictions as a true basketball fan and is based on my perspective of the game. Sorry if its offending to anyone.

I am 'the shaq' man. Sad but true, he's just gonna make it as a candidate. Still the most dominating person in the league despite the loss to yao and the rockets. One game cannot change the history and the present. Coaches and the players still have to sacrifice a lot defending shaq but its unfortunate for the lakers that other players(not kobe) are not cashing this oppourtunity.
Two players in NBA who can make the difference in the LEAGUE???? According to Bill Walton its Fisher and Fox.
Playoffs LAKERS, Playoffs.
Peace.
DWI Posted on 22-Jan-03 11:42 PM

k_loaded, to be MVP, you shouldn't only be the biggest contributor or the best player in the league, but you also should have led your team to winning column. Unless Lakers start winning, its hard to find Kobe in MVP voting.
Personally I would vote Kobe to be the best player around the league, but MVP? may be not. I do think Lakers will head to the playoff and may be Kobe will be the final MVP. Since when Bill Walton's prediction started counting. in most of the NBA messageboards (ESPN) u will see people cursing Bill Walton for his wrong comments.
I agree with you K_loaded, coaches aren't cashing on Kobe's talent.
k_loaded Posted on 23-Jan-03 08:10 PM

DWI ji,
Why cant kobe be a mvp candidate or the MVP this year if lakers make it to the playoffs?
All the playoff teams will have to have a winning record...... so your winning column criteria will be fullfilled once they make it to the playoffs.
And if michel jordan, elton brand can be mvp candidates last year, i see no reason why kobe cant be the mvp this year.
Well Bill Walton didnt predict......he said those two guy can make the difference in the league. And that kind of makes sense to me no matter what people have to say about Bill.

chill out.
Rusty Posted on 24-Jan-03 10:57 AM

DWI and K_Loaded,
After reviewing your points, I realize that it is very difficult to judge who deserves the MVP award in the league. Rules in NBA to decide the winner is so vague and confusing, I must say. However, one thing I have always noticed that the winner is always chose from a better or best team in the league. Regarding Kobe Brayant , he can’t be the MVP candidate in spite of his personal stats. MJ was MVP candidate last year!!!!! Where did you get that information? Was that the list released from the officials or the list from the people who analyze NBA in different media? I don’t care what Bill Walton says…. I don’t care what Kenny Smith says… I don’t care what Charles barkey says…. Kobe can’t be the league MVP candidate!! As DWI says, he’s a good player, but he’s not played like MVP to creep up the team record. My friend! He might get final MVP award if the Lakers ever slip into the play-offs. How about Paul pierce? He also got the knack to be MVP candidate!! However, I still stick around with my previous list:
1. Nowitzki
2. Webber
3. TD
4. JK
I would add J Kidd even though I hate him personally:)
oys_chill Posted on 24-Jan-03 02:04 PM

RUSTY JYU EXcuse ME??????????????????

HE hasn't played like MVP????????? HE single handedly has brought lakers to this stretch this season giving some hope of making into the playoffs. and if lakers make it to the playoffs, i see kobe an outright winner, because he's done it all. sure c webb has played well, but kings have all the other superstars who contribute the same amount so u can't vote for him the way his team is playing. I mean..why on earth did they have DUNCAN as MVP ...was his team winning all the games?? i think it was because he was supreme..and if u see kobe's stat and playing this season, HE REINS SUPREME!!

ani youngbloodz, tell me about a player who doesn't have an ego? common gimme a break...you need to have an heart of a champion to rule in NBA>.and kobe leads in that category.

oys
Rusty Posted on 24-Jan-03 02:37 PM

Oys Jyu,
Excuse me too.. Kobe solely didn’t bring the whole Lakers team to this stretch; there’s another big man whose appetite for the MVP awards has been diminishing daily. Remember, Kobe and the Lakers lost a significant number of games in the beginning of this season while Shaq was out. Even though this is out of this topic, I want to indicate something here- the Lakers management has overconfidently done a blunder in off-season; they should have brought a good point guard, trading one of their point guards. The Lakers don’t have a third consistent hand that can make the hoop. I would guarantee that the Lakers would not have been this far if they didn’t have Shaq.

About Tim Duncan, his effort and performance had fetched his team second best record in the league. In addition to that, he had good stats in regard of score, rebounds, assists and blocks. Thus, he was the MVP last season:)
khimberly Posted on 24-Jan-03 10:30 PM

I dono what happened with my Lakers this year they are not doing good ,they are my team i like them, but they are making me feel so bad . Mav (Dalas) are doing damn good yaar, don,t like em, i hate e`m . And one thing how can Golden state (Worriar) beat so easly to Laker not even once yaar all the time . Yow he is not a shaq "Shaq i a shaq yow just got hight its like bamboo don,t like him

HONESTLY, I THINK ...THIS IS THE YEAR FOR DA DALLAS MAVRICS OR THE KINGS......HOWEVER, KINGS MIGHT GO ALL DA WAY..IF THEY COULNDT DO IT THIS YEAR..THEY WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO DO IT AGAIN....
WATCH OUT FOR THE SPURS!! THEY DOIN DAMN GOOD LATELY!!!
Rusty Posted on 27-Jan-03 01:11 PM

Bigtimeplaya
Yes..I am an eternal fan of Knickerbockers; that doesn’t mean that I can't talk/analyze about the Lakers. It was our unfortunate that the Knicks had been playing so bad since the beginning of the season, so there’s nothing left to talk about the Knicks. Honestly, I wasn’t even keeping track of Knicks stats and records until I found out that the Knicks had astonishingly gone to the run of 18-24, which gave my team a hope to go into the play-offs:)
BigTimePlaya Posted on 28-Jan-03 03:23 PM

LAKERS WILL BE BACK YOOOOOOOOO dont worry!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rusty ji
Late to respond ...
....anyway i am not just talking about kobe being mvp candidate. I am talking about him being the mvp this year. And how can you sit there and just say he cant be a mvp CANDIDATE this year??? He was the league's mvp candidate last year and he is a candidate this year. The only thing we have to wait and see is whether the league chooses him as their most valuable player or not. Yeah the process is vague and complicated....but all in all this is how they choose the mvp
*stats on all feilds of the game(kobe arguably is the #1)
*votings from critics, experts and journalists from the US and some other international critics.(kobe has recieved lots of respect this season for improving his game on both front and back court).
*raising the team's level(if kobe performance remains the same for next half of the season and the lakers make it to the playoffs, thats good enough ).
So this is my mvp(the league has yet to be decide).
And i am positive that michel jordan was a mvp candidate last year. And you wont believe me but elton brand, mike bibby and peja stojakovic was in the final list of the mvp vote reciever in which Tim Duncan topped all of them with some 935(around) votes, jason kidd was the runner up with shaq to follow and kobe in the fifth position.

So its still uncertian. You can select your mvp but you cannot discard one of the best player in the league (and supposedly this years mvp).
Rusty Posted on 03-Feb-03 01:39 PM

Are you guys sick and tired of this thread???

Hum-ba-ba,
Yes, thats true...KG is the most efficient player in the league. He's got to be that versatile when he gets that amount of money. Hopefully, he'll take his team to the second round of the play-offs. Otherwise, it’s gonna be even more embarrassing season for him. I take TD, anytime over KG:) KG was over-hyped and overly paid, but this season he's playing the best. Cheer up TW:)
DWI Posted on 04-Feb-03 08:59 PM

And there was a fresh talk about trading Spree. Knicks cannot afford to loose Spree, the Knicks Spark. Say what Rusty bro?
But one of the reason Knicks are playing good is also due to the focused play of Howard Eisely.
What a game tonight for Spree. Thursday night, againts Lakers. Bring it on K_loaded and Lakers Fans.
A tough stretch for Knicks coming next, but win or loose - will watch.
Rusty Posted on 04-Feb-03 10:19 PM

Hoorey!! Spree set an NBA record by hitting nine treys without a miss in the Knicks' 105-92 win over the Clips. More later:))))
k_loaded Posted on 05-Feb-03 06:05 PM

DWI ji,
We are ready.....anytime!
Thursday nite's gonna be fun not because by how big margin the Lakers gonna win but by the fact which Hollyloot chicks and the big shots gonna be courtside..... chillin.
cheers to the knicks.
Win for the Lakers.
Playoffs Laker Playoffs!
DWI Posted on 05-Feb-03 06:38 PM

Last time MSG Network, they were presenting the arguments for which is the best Sports Town.
The finalists were NY and LA (K_loaded!!).

Notable Arguments supporting LA:
* Shaq and Kobe
* They got Dodgers from NY
* Not as many potholes to Staples center as to the Garden (Madison Square).

Arguments supporting NY:
* Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden
* Fans come early and leave late

I would put Miami, Boston, Chicago and Dallas also on the
semifinal list. Boston being the smallest market, yet with top contenders.

What do you guys say?
K_loaded, congrats Lakers are playing like champs now. Hope Kobe will get some awards (MVP) this
year (may be in the final).
Rusty Posted on 06-Feb-03 03:02 PM

I agree that Kobe's now playin like a MVP....They gonna make the play-offs, I am all optimistic about it...

I don’t wanna see the Lakers and fired-up Kobe miserably losing the grip of the ball tonight at MSG:)

Damn it! I can’t watch all star game this weekend:(
k_loaded Posted on 06-Feb-03 10:12 PM

Lakers back in their spirit. Great finish over the helpless knicks to enter the all-star weekend. But appreciated their comeback in the fourth quater.

dwi ji, Talking about the best sports town in america..............ifall the people on this tread are talking about basketball, the vote's on LA.
and LA is!
100%!
oys_chill Posted on 06-Feb-03 11:44 PM

Dream of californicationnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!

aroo bhanya tyastai ho.....did u see that reverse dunk by KObe......U know what I'm saying..............yo sac. queens, dallas mavs, n portland jailbreakers.......lakers are coming!! hoo hooo!

oys
Rusty Posted on 07-Feb-03 07:40 AM

I don't even wanna talk about the Knicks, but I guess they played well last night. Seven Knicks with double digit scores! Was houston shut down or something?

My prediction about the Lakers- they will end up with 7th position in West, and face the #2 Sac 'Queens' in the first round. Kobe has chance to be the final MVP...
k_loaded Posted on 07-Feb-03 02:34 PM

Oh yess!
Rusty ji, you are going in the right direction.
Atleast you believe the lakers are gonna make it to the finals.
And i wish i could convince you that kobe is the man this season.
True mvp
Rusty Posted on 07-Feb-03 03:55 PM

Interesting comparision bet Shaq and Wilt C.

The best season for Wilt was 1961 -62 when he averaged 50.4 ppg. Looks like he was the only scorer that time....

For More...
http://www.nba.com/allstar2003/then_now_wilt_shaq.html
DWI Posted on 08-Feb-03 10:22 PM

K_loaded, they were including all the sports but seemed like focus was more on NBA.

I am 100% that Lakers will go to the finals. I am still undecided on Kings or Lakers winning the title. Mavs fan, sorry.

Rusty, Knicks played well in the last game. I was getting so embarassed, and then they saved the night on fourth quarter. Houston has some problems with his hand, while guarding Rhitik Rhoshan, I mean Rick Fox. Next few games are gonna be very tough and will be the litmus test for Knicks going to playoffs. If they fail, they better loose the rest of the games. Remember, last year they won meaningless games and were just ahead of Houston Rockets because of that. You know what happened after that.
DWI Posted on 08-Feb-03 10:23 PM

How 'bout Lebron James Scoring 52 points!!! Shocker? Hardly.
DWI Posted on 11-Feb-03 01:22 PM

Knicks fans (including Rusty)
Heard of the latest trade rumor? Spree for Keith Van Horn. I hate it big time. Its sounds like they are making trade for the sake of making. I hate any players from Nets.

A new rivalry to go for a long run, Shaq vs Yao Ming. Houston fans and Lakers fans, c'mon support your teams!!! Jeez.
Rusty Posted on 11-Feb-03 03:26 PM

DWI,
I'm so mad... I just can't believe that. I also hate the Nets and any players from the Nets.

Shaq Vs Yao is just a joke for couple of years. Yao still NOT elible to be compared with Shaq, but it's the media in the US who're makin big deal outta Shaq vs Yao.
hum-ba-ba Posted on 11-Feb-03 03:53 PM

man, if the knicks let latrell spree go, i know what's coming in; a loosing spree...
DWI Posted on 11-Feb-03 06:53 PM

Hum-ba-ba, you couldn't be more right, absolutely. Spree is the essence of this team. Loosing record and bad players, what will be there to watch? Keith Van Horn? Please!

So Rusty doesn't believe in Yao yet. I guess you're right, he cannot be matched with Shaq yet. But I think this guy has a huge potential. If Houston starts running more offense on Yao, it will only get better.

Shaq-Yao rivalry is very artificial, an effort by NBA to boost up the ratings like Magic-Bird rivalry. But if its worth the hype, aint no harm watching it.
hum-ba-ba Posted on 12-Feb-03 10:36 AM

Yao's got some ways to go, no question about it. He's got what it takes (the height as it seems) and shown here and there that he can play, but it still remains to be seen whether he can make an impact like shaq.

On the trade talks/rumors, there's one about TWs acquiring Gary Payton! Now, I dont know if this will happen, but if it does, it could be interesting. Although, I am not too much into trades that happen midway thru the season for strategic reasons (playoffs), I have to admit I am excited, coz payton does seem like something TWs would benefit from; a good point guard that can do lotsa things!
Rusty Posted on 12-Feb-03 02:26 PM

Talking about TW, what happened to Terrell Brandon? Is he already retired, or in the injured list? He was one of my fav point guards in NBA. I reminisce TWolves ever since the team had S. Marbury, Tom Guglittoa (as a leading scorer), and KG together. If they're together until now, they could reach to the second round of play-offs....

Good for Gary Payton if he gets traded. But, I believe it's just a rumor at this point. Gary Payton, also #1 trash talker in NBA, has always been the leader of the team ever since he played with the Sonics. Can he stay in TWolves, under the shadow of KG? Marbury, few years back, couldn't stay under over-hyped, overly rated and paid, KG(That time). Of course, KG is #1 efficient player now, and he's proved that he can be the MVP this season.
k_loaded Posted on 12-Feb-03 02:43 PM

I have heard about this rumor too. I think Paython is a free agent next season(not for sure). But in a preseason interview, he said he would like to end his career in seatle. And at that point, the sonics havent had extended his contract. I dont know whats the situation now....
So far for T'wolves, they have been dying to get this guy(a good allrounder point guard).
I would like see Gary Paython in the pack of wolves. Wooooohhhh!
Payton with wally and KG...........Hell yeah! this team could be a title contender!

And guys ....did you watch kobe's dunk last nite? This guy is runnin ahead of everyone with the mvp title this time around.
Yes Lakers! Yes!
AX Posted on 12-Feb-03 02:50 PM

Good to read about Gary Payton here. I am big of fan of his. About getting The Glove to the TWolves, it will gretly help the team. I still think he is one of th ebest PG in the NBA. I really do think that they can go to next level and even compete with the KINGS and the MAVS (discounting Lakers). GP, KG and the Wally and the team will be fun to watch eventhough i am not that great fan of TWolves. Terrell years are over, he is in the injured list last 3 years or so.

Let's not get into the hype of All Star and already count KG as the this year MVP. TMAC and TD means more to their teams than the KG does to the TWolves. I would even put Nowitzki ahead of KG.

Peace
DWI Posted on 12-Feb-03 04:10 PM

One affirmation from my side: Kobe is the best NBA player playing right now!!

I don't think Gary can help Twolves that much, as Rusty said, they might reach second round of the playoffs. They need a legitimate Center to aid KG.
Rusty Posted on 13-Feb-03 07:18 AM

WHo's better than Kobe? Nobody at this moment.....He's playing like MVP in the late season...The Lakers are being *bad* news for the prospective teams like the Mavs and the Queens in the west. However, I believe in Sac "Queens" because they have prior experience to stop Shaq and Kobe and they know how to beat the Lakers. Plus, Stojackovic is healthy this year. I am not sure what's going on with Mike Bibby this season.
hum-ba-ba Posted on 13-Feb-03 11:10 AM

Good question, what's up with Bibby? Looked like he was going to take some leadership responsibilities the way he ended the playoffs, but poof.. I'm disappointed - I liked him then.. But let's give him some time, he missed most of the first half of the season.

Rusty has a point, the GP trade is probably going to be just talks - GP has been in Seattle for ages, he owns that place; it would be difficult for him to leave. But then Seattle seems to be going nowhere. They show some bursts, but they have been disappointing season after season. Joining the pack of wolves will mean more action in the playoffs for Gary - and possibly more playoff time for the TWs. I don't think there would be anything like under the shadow of KG for Gary. He still has a couple of years, where he can pull some of his own tricks. Plus, look at other teams in the West - all those starstudded teams and stars playing together - it shouldn't be too hard a thing to learn for Gary.

And hey, with Wally fully recovered, the TWs are on a little run of their own, quitely behind LA. They took down Dallas the other night..and we are seeing more team effort..in a team where KG leads all of these categories for TW --
PPG, RPG, APG, SPG, BPG and maybe more..
DWI Posted on 14-Feb-03 08:28 PM

Yeah! What's up with Bibby.
By the way here is a question. Should Spurs persue Jason Kidd after Kidd is eligible for free agent market, after this season? I think Parker is playing well and as ESPN said, they should invest the money to something else (like shooting guard).

Watching Rangers these days. They are as bad as knicks, matter of fact their record (W and L) is almost same as Knicks, but they are making so many trades these days, its hard to ignore. The recent Trade involving Kovalev was real good one. Kovalev scored goals in Ranger's last two win, including tonights.

Rusty! You should watch NHL someday man. Any NHL fan?
DWI Posted on 16-Feb-03 09:35 PM

Lakers vs Knicks.
Half time. Knicks winning.
K_loaded, watching? Say what Rusty?
Rusty Posted on 17-Feb-03 07:24 AM

DWI and Knicks fan,
What a pleasent surprise:)
A. Houston, who is one of the sharp shooters of NBA east, scored a career -and NBA season-high- 53 points as the Knicks overcame another brilliant performance by Kobe Bryant, who unexpectedly missed injured Shaq.

This is definately a big win for the Knicks. Now, Those whoever asserts that Kobe's the KEY player, who is accountable for the Lakers' wins...... what do you say? Two loses in a row-- after 6/7 winning streak-- when Shaq's NOT on his full protency. I agree that Kobe's liable for wins and he's playing like MVP candidate but he, alone - without Shaq, can't do nothing about the wins, despite the fact that he can put big numbers in his stats.. everyday.

Few things to note:
1. it was 50-point game by a Knick since Patrick Ewing scored 50 against the Charlotte Hornets on December 1, 1990. Houston tied Willis Reed's production at Los Angeles on November 1, 1967 for the fourth-most in the team's illustrious history.

2. Kobe scored 35+ in 8 or 9 consecutive games.
AX Posted on 17-Feb-03 12:55 PM

IT was indeed good to see Knicks beating 2 quality teams in a row. And they are in a playoff picture now for the 8th place. Hope to see more wins by Knicks in coming days.

Rusty copying form your previous comment about Kobe and the Lakers: "WHo's better than Kobe? Nobody at this moment.....He's playing like MVP in the late season...The Lakers"

If he is not the MVP of the Lakers than how can he be the MVP of the NBA. just a thought....
Rusty Posted on 17-Feb-03 01:40 PM

AX,
Still, who's playing better than kobe? Nobody. He's averaging 40+ in 8/9 consecutive games. What I have been saying is that Kobe is playing like MVP, but he alone, without Shaq, can't WIN the games.

Cheer up for the Knickerbocker:)
Rusty Posted on 17-Feb-03 01:41 PM

plus, it's not very difficult to beat Shaqless Lakers.
DWI Posted on 17-Feb-03 02:37 PM

Agree with you Rusty bro.
Lets put it in a realistic terms: Best player in the Lakers team right now is Kobe. However, any body would still pick Shaq if they have to choose just one player in the whole NBA.

What a night, eh Rusty! One more stats to ponder. NY has scored over 100 points in their last 7 games and 9 out of their last 10. Gone are the days when we were Van Gundy's defensive team. I think it won't be an overstatement to say Knicks are Houston's team now ( I like Spree as much). Hope Spree raises his level too.

Big game tonight, Trail Blazers. Looks like we can sneak into no. 8 position within next 3-4 games if we get atleast 3 out of next 4. Orlando and Washington donot have an easy schedule either.
k_loaded Posted on 17-Feb-03 03:32 PM

Good win for the knicks......kobe must be real fustrated as his effort to rule the league and the lakers was taken away by a crazy and outstanding nite Alan Houstan had. Time again for kobe to get some criticism. Cant win without shaq!
But thats again true. When you talk about who's better player in the league, you just put shaq aside. Then the rating starts.....

They lost two in a row after long awaited run, and that too in their own land. Fustrating for the lakers and their fans. Loss to the spurs was acceptable, just seemed like there was no stoping for Duncan on the offensive board. But knicks was a different story.
I believed lakers would and could beat the knicks without shaq. But here we are with a loss ending valantine hypes and talks of lakers 4peat. Damn this media had guts to give twelve roses for the lakers and put them in the list ahead of everyone(including kings! and the mavs!) for the championship title.
We need little production from rick fox! Just cant score O points in some 24 min(against spurs) and shoot so poorly against the knicks. And he has been doing it for a long time now.
Lakers are trying to get back free agent horace grant. That should add some benifits to their defensive end if they can acquire him.
And we are back in the run.
And T'wolves??? Longest run in the franchise history!!! One more acompolishment for KG.
My fantasy this season (Lakers Vs T'wolves in the conf. final)
4-3 lakers win!
Not impossible.

Rusty Posted on 17-Feb-03 10:16 PM

K_Loaded,
I think you're really Kobe loaded...LOL..Just kiding....

It's just that Knicks are having really bad time since V Gundy left the team. Lakers are not unbeatable team, since the Knicks have won 4 of last 6 games in the past 3 years, with or without Shaq. Note that Knicks and the lakers meet only twice in a year. But, I bet...any team can beat the Lakers if "the" Shaq is not there... No more comments for now....

Let me take care of our F** Punk brother...what do you know about NBA??? Can you share anything with us? Call 1800- NBA-INFO:)

ok here's my prediction for the rest of the season for lakers.....they gonna end up around 5th place..anyone up for bet? :P
AX Posted on 17-Feb-03 10:40 PM

I have seen in this thread that ppl jumping the bandwagon from one to another. First it was Shaq and then to Yao and then to KG and to Kobe and don't who else in few days (hopefully TD is the one).....

We all know that putting up the no. won't win the game or the MVP. I think MVP should be awarded to the player who contributes more to their team (one of top in the league standing). As I said earlier, TD means more to the Spurs, TMAC does to the Magics and Iverson to the 76ers, maybe KG name comes too.

Oys bro how about dinner in Jai kishan Height :D
Rusty Posted on 17-Feb-03 10:56 PM

But..lookin at recent games, TD has chance to be MVP again.... Look at the wins and his performance....any doubt?
hum-ba-ba Posted on 18-Feb-03 12:25 AM

The way I see it is, the best way to gauge a player's value is the team's performance itself before anything else. A triple double, or a 40 point game in a losing cause is still less that what a player can do. Now, this definitely seems a little unfair - how can you blame Kobe when he puts up 40 points and rest of his teammates does nothing but watch him put a show? It was all those role players that didn't do what they were supposed to do. This has happened more than once to lakers this season. With Shaq in and out, a lot of Kobe's 40's and 50's have not translated into wins for lakers. The fact that lakers only stand a couple of games above .500 takes a lot out of Kobe's quest for MVP.(No doubt that he is delightful to watch, and more the lakers win, better his chances) The same is true for TMAC, and AI - their teams haven't been winning consistently even though these guys are putting great numbers. Sixers have cycles- ups and downs, they still haven't played consistently. TMAC's magic is actually below .500 - no way he can be in the race for MVP.

This is where I like TD & KG. Their performance have translated into wins for the teams.(put JK in there too..) It's a two-way thing; It's impossible to imagine these teams win without these players(unlike Kings did without CW earlier), and their teams do win with them in it.
Rusty Posted on 19-Feb-03 03:42 PM

Sprewell for Van Horn?? Will it be a good trade? I don’t think so… The Sixers and Mavericks have stepped to the forefront in the chase for Sprewell. Regardless of Van Horn's stats, the Knicks won't do any better with this trade in this season, for sure. As DWI said, I hate any players who’ve previously played with the Nets. When Sprewell gets traded, the person who brings intensity in the game is gone for the Knicks… If he gets traded, I would rather prefer him going to the Mavs. At least, a good point guard, Van Excel [another Van with no horn], will come to the Knicks. But, I think the Mavs are more interested in bringing Ward and K Thomas [who was originally drafted by the Mavs, I believe]. I love Kurt Thomas for what he does on the floor. I still want Thomas to stay in the Knicks. Let’s see what happens by tomorrow…
DWI Posted on 19-Feb-03 06:35 PM

Absolutely Rusty. I would rather keep Thomas.
There was a recent rumor about getting Payton for Thomas+Ward. But ESPN reports they nixed the deal. Good ridden.
Tonight's game is gonna be good. Knicks planned 4 out of 6 in Western swing, a rather elevated ambition. But seems like they might be able to pull it off.
DWI Posted on 19-Feb-03 11:42 PM

For Knicks fan only,

Knicks lost to Seattle 103-94. However Knicks did show some desire even though vibrated by the recent trade rumors. Spreewell played well. But one thing I noticed during the game is how Don Chaney is growing up amongst Knicks Fan.
When Van Gundy left and Don was appointed the Head coach, very less Knicks fan were happy. When his contract was extended despite the loosing season, fans were more disappointed. But despite the press trashing Knicks credibility, Don has kept the hope alive all along. He has converted this team from Defensive super power to Offensive team (not super power though), and it suits well with the roster. Biggest thing is he believes in himself and that transfers to the players.
In tonights game, while Charlie was out because of injury (abdominal pain) and were trailing badly in 3rd quarter by about 16 points, Chaney changed the getup. He went big front court with Doleac, Kurt and Weatherspoon (rotated Shandon among them). And it worked very well, we started getting rebounds and soon in enough in Fourth quarter the lead was cut to 3.
However, being a road team and having mediocre players, the lead slipped again. But still, his plays were commendable. Don was rewarded the coach of the year of Rockets coach few years back. But he still is an underrated coach.
Coach Chaney has few limitation he has to correct, like:
1. Bad defensive plays in game and practice.
2. Not a big motivator as a coach should be.
3. Don't want to interfere with player's abilities.
Why can't the team take more free throws? They should goto the paint more often.
Make Doleac go near the nets like center or power forward instead of taking jump shots like a shooting forward.
If he overcomes these hurdles, he can become a very respectable coach in the league and Knicks can taste the playoff stew once again.
Rusty Posted on 20-Feb-03 08:50 PM

Ray Allen for G Payton???? I don't wanna comment no more!!! But, Bucks won't get any better., so does Sonics... Yet, Payton can lead the Bucks... No wonder..

DWI,
Thanks god...Knicks haven't done any trade yet...for Thomas and Sprewell...
They should get prominent center, rather... I don't wanna comment ..no more...

More tomorrow..I am kinda shocked....
wit's end Posted on 21-Feb-03 10:49 AM

rusty,
what would you say about Shaqless lakers beating the Rockets, where SHAQFUL of Lakers failed??
PS: Kobe had a wonderful game against Utah the next game :o)
Rusty Posted on 21-Feb-03 02:29 PM

Wit's end Ji,
Kobe's playing very great, needless to say. Read this article -- to answer your question:

ESPN:
It would be an amazing accomplishment, really -- Kobe Bryant winning the Most Valuable Player award.

Because, when was the last time a write-in candidate won the MVP?

The initial thought of the ever-changing short list of MVP frontrunners doesn't include Bryant with Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett and Jason Kidd. He simply doesn't do as much heavy lifting as The Overburdened Three, who fill stat sheets night in and night out to make sure their teams will play ball in late April.

Remember, Bryant benefits from a 7-foot-1, 340-pound heat conductor named Shaquille O'Neal, who takes an opponent's focus and allows Bryant to abuse people with his one-on-one skills. Because of that luxury/albatross, Bryant will never win the MVP with Shaq active and wearing purple and gold.

That was the case with Kobe until Tuesday night.

With O'Neal's sore left knee and aching right big toe (yeah, that again), Bryant earned an audition for the part as an MVP candidate against Houston. He scored a season-high 52 points.

The victory bumped the Lakers' season record without Shaq to an embarrassing 4-10 -- 3-9 of it occurring the season's first month when O'Neal took time to recover from his better-late-than-never toe surgery and Bryant took as many shots as he pleased and got criticized for it. But if Bryant turns in another virtuoso performance for the Shaq-less Lakers tonight in Utah and if the Lakers pull ahead of the Rockets for the No. 8 spot and if the champs never look back on their once-lottery brethren … well, Kobe can't be discounted from MVP consideration then, right?

It's not like Bryant cares about individual honors. After all, the last time he won an MVP award (at the 2002 All-Star Game), he got booed in his own hometown. But, like that bald-headed guy he's so often compared with, Bryant loves to compete -- or hates to lose. This challenge of carrying the Lakers, without O'Neal at least, will be put on hold Friday when Shaq expects to come back. Still, the opportunity for Bryant to carve his own niche is there. Why wait until Shaq rides off into retirement in a customized sheriff's car, when Bryant can write the prologue to his career's second chapter, "There Is Life After Shaq."

But how long can Kobe keep this up, this 35-points-or-more-every-night trick? He is only 24, but that body is not your typical 24-year-old body. It bears the extra mileage of 85 games in the playoffs, where the wear and tear is just as taxing on the mind. It's a good thing Kobe bulked up in the offseason. Little did he know those 15 extra pounds of muscle would be needed to keep a proud organization from sinking into mediocrity.

The caveat to Bryant's MVP worthiness is this: the Lakers have to make the playoffs in order for Bryant to be considered. That same condition has temporarily kept Tracy McGrady from being mentioned in MVP discussions.
Rusty Posted on 25-Feb-03 07:18 AM

DWI,
The Knicks really need some changes in the team-- probably reform the team, but keep Houston and Kurt Thomos. Yes, certainly, as you said, Coach Chaney must correct those limitations on the guys... But, will they make the play-offs? Who knows.....

Lakers fan,
Whass up with O'Neal's efficiency?
Whass up with Kobe's 40+ in last 9 game?? C'on ....speak up... or let it die???
oys_chill Posted on 25-Feb-03 11:16 AM

I don't care......i jus stick with my prediction that lakers gonna end at around fifth spot in the west :)...........AX BRO, dinner ko menu thik garum hai :P

What has Kobe done wrong this season?? :)

Oys
Rusty Posted on 25-Feb-03 11:39 AM

Oyster..how about the final???? Are they gonna win the title? Keep selecting your menu of Dhaal bhaat....:p
AX Posted on 25-Feb-03 12:02 PM

Oys, that's not fair now. The bet was for the 4th place. Let's see, they still got 27 games to be played.

Oys, as Rusty said Dal Bhat with harin ko sukuti sanga how does that sound :)

Kobe can put as many points he can, but he is not going to win the MVP. Like many others, I still do think it's Shaq's team and Lakers are not going anywhere if Shaq is not healthy.
Rusty Posted on 25-Feb-03 12:14 PM

This tournament is very unpredictable this season, but you can always have a faith in your teams....:)

Will Mavs win the title coz they have the best record?
DWI Posted on 25-Feb-03 01:01 PM

Rusty
After writing good things about Chaney, I was pissed with his play calling on 2nd last game (vs Warriors). It also seems like Houston is always running away from ball. I also would keep Houston and Thomas and trade everybody else. We have to trade either spree or Houston to get a good replacement, if they are tradeable. If we loose another 2 games, its best to loose all the rest. We will then get LeBron and may be a legitimate center for Spree+Doleac+Shandon, if anybody takes them.
DWI Posted on 25-Feb-03 01:04 PM

At this moment of the series, I wouldn't put my bets on Mavs. I don't trust Kings also. I might go with Spurs or Lakers. Blazers are viable contenders too.

Speaking about Kobe, what would have happened, if he was in a team like Minnesota (replacing KG) or Miami where whole offense would be running for him. Here he has to share play calling with Shaq and still he has matched MJ's record for 2nd most games with continuous 40 points or more.

Oys bro, is your heart still with Knicks?
AX Posted on 25-Feb-03 01:23 PM

what i am reading here now. I thougth these were loyal fans of Knicks who used to call Knicks as Sprewell's team. All of a sudden, you want to trade Sprewell now. I always thought Sprewell is the right person to trade with Houston's undtradable salary. As good as of a defensive player Sprewell is, I hate him to see playing in 3rd (SF) postion. He is well undersized for that position.

Hopefully they will be able to pick up the Glove after the season ends. And I am sure they will be able to pick good center trading Sprewell and others. GP in PG, Houston in SG, Shannon/Lee Nailon/??? in SF, Antonio McDyess in PF and Kurt Thomas in Center position(It would be great if they can upgrade in that position as well).

I want to see 8-9 man rotation team as knicks used to have before. I want to see Charlie/Eisley, Otheella/Spoon, Doleac/Knight to be traded.
AX Posted on 25-Feb-03 01:30 PM

I am not discounting Shaq and the Lakers. Idon't think they are as good of a team as last year. Lakers are the champion.

Lakers should thank to David Stern that first round playoff is 7 long games series. Lakers have every chance of winning the first round, be them ranked #6 or #7 or #8. YES I do mean they can beat the MAVS, the QUEENS (as rusty calls them) and the Spurs, but they have the same chance of lossing to those teams which was unimaginable last year.

Let's wait till the playoff starts and see where we all stand........
oys_chill Posted on 25-Feb-03 01:43 PM

AX brooo...........SCROLL UP AND SEE THE ORIGINAL BET!! it was for fifth place? ax got lil scary with laker's run eh? eheh......its okies......

Frankly, I do not believe Lakers are gonna win this season, for a simple reason that besides shaq and kobe they continue to struggle to find the third consistent scorer, which might come to haunt them in the playoffs. WELL IF THEY WIN :) jhan mooj.

As for me, I am all up for taking lakers to that coveted fifth place :) to clash with the portland JAILBLAZERS :P

DHUMBASSE (DUMBASS) Posted on 25-Feb-03 03:26 PM

well guys , I dont know who is good and who is not in the NBA anymore. I do watch of the games if i have time, i commute for two hrs going home and by the time i am home , i am ready for bed rather than watching basketball.

Anyways, last friday I was at MCI center watching Wizards and the NEts match up. it was supposedly Jordans birthday and he is 40 now.He scored 43 pts and the team scored 89. It was a battle. At the end, i can proudly say, Wizards came vitorious.

well you might ask, so what and your point is?

My ppoint is , I had never watched Jordan play in person, and on top of that, never had seen Jordan put up a show, against a team that leads the Eastern conference, in such a fashion.

The only thing he did not do was fly like his 'airness'. Other than that he could spin and shoot, fade away jumpers, baseline dunks ( 2), and lay ups. He was rebounding, and assisting, Stealing ( 2) , at the same time yelling at his team mates. It was wonderful to watch him that night.

The bottomline is...AFTER 40 IT FEELS LIKE MIKE
DWI Posted on 25-Feb-03 07:24 PM

Ax bro
We are Loyal to Knicks not the players. We want to see Knicks developing into to perennial contender in wins, not in salary department. Having said that, wanna add this too, There is no players I like (in any sports) better than Spreewell. But if I were a GM, I would give up 5 Sprees to get a winning team.
Why Spree? Well u know Houston is impossible to be traded. Spree is the only tradeable player who can make room for a considerable amount of money. Kurt is most underpaid, so he won't make much room even if he is traded; that's why Rusty also vouched for him being here. Shandon Anderson, Weatherspoon, Harrington; if we can trade them, nothing like it. But who would take them?
Even Spree is controversial and not too many teams like him. But he is the only legitimate trading position for Knicks, to get a good center. That also seems not too much possible, but that's the best bet. We would be reluctant to give up Thomas, Houston(?) and Spree, but nobody takes the rest either. If they do, Knicks are even ready to dump 'em.
So practically, that's what we end up with.
Knicks vs. Houston, enjoying yet?
Rusty Posted on 25-Feb-03 09:26 PM

DWI,
First of all i am so glad that the Knicks won the game tonight...I 100% agree with you about Knicks players' trade. They must trade Spree to get other good players.

I am surprised to see the Magic after that trade. Those two rookies making big difference in the team. They combine 40 points and 18 rebounds to beat the Mavs....
Let's see how they play in future...
DWI Posted on 25-Feb-03 09:42 PM

Yeah, trade sure helped them. Bad thing is we are playing them soon. I saw Bucks game the other night and I liked the tandem between Payton and Cassel. Both have a vast peripherial vision, a must for Point Guard, and were passing and scoring so well in tandem. I don't know if this simply translates to wins but sure is fun to watch.

K-mart went to Wall mart and the Nets are in 3 game loosing skid. Excellent (mr. Burns style). Hope we can beat 'em tomorrow.

Hey, where did the Yao fans go? He played well, but did you see Kurt (and Spree) stealing balls from him and Weatherspoon Dunking on him? (Hey we don't win too many games so let us savor the moment.)
Rusty Posted on 26-Feb-03 02:21 PM

DWI,
Nets without K-mart?? That's good. Yeah, Payton and Cassel are very prominent point gurads with their tangential, but I don't think they can keep the same pace. I don't think Payton will make a big big difference for the Bucks because he will endow the same stats as Ray Allen did, or little better. Let's see...

Gooden is for Magic's good. well..the Knicks will defy them no matter what.
DWI Posted on 26-Feb-03 02:41 PM

Rusty Bro,
K-mart might be playing tonight. He was just absent yesterday.
AX Posted on 26-Feb-03 02:43 PM

It was good to see Knicks winning. They harrased Yao in the paint. But they are long way from making the playoff this year.

It seems like Magics knew what they were getting for then their 2nd option Mike Miller. I wish GHILL is on the lineup. It would have been great help for the Magic. BTW what was Jerry West "da great mind in NBA" thinking while they drafted Gooden. Paul plays the same position as Gooden does. Grizzlies are better team with the Mike Miller on the lineup.

It's kinda cool that I did not see any new names popping here for the MVP :)

Peace
AX Posted on 27-Feb-03 08:53 AM

ello guys...... No posting after Knicks loose? It was the worst lost for the Knicks.

I am glad I did not get to watch it. anything to say about last nite game.....
Rusty Posted on 27-Feb-03 12:47 PM

Another loss for the Knicks!! I am so upset that the Knicks won't be racing for the play-offs :(

AX yo myaan from the big apple...so gleeful after the losss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rusty Posted on 27-Feb-03 03:02 PM

List of ten early candidates for NBA MVP:

read this: http://www.nba.com/features/mvp_030227.html

I would accept any players, except for Jason Kidd.
AX Posted on 27-Feb-03 03:08 PM

How about eliminating players form Lakers, Pacers, Kings, and Nets.

The rest five looks very good to me. Specially the last year MVP.
Rusty Posted on 27-Feb-03 03:14 PM

AX,
I would appriciate if the MVP award goes to any of these guys: TD, CW (I doubt coz he missed many games to lift up the team), KG (Possible coz he's #1 efficient player this year), Dirk Noi....
khimberly Posted on 27-Feb-03 03:21 PM

Lakers are doing very good and iam #1 fal since 99`
k_loaded Posted on 28-Feb-03 12:27 AM

As far my choice for the mvp goes, i am sticking with my original lineup with kobe, duncan and KG. Very difficult to choose your man.
And mavs fan........sorry guys. You have to have some answer to the kings before you think of winning the championship. They had complete control over the game with a minute and some remaining in the game. How can you throw the game that was in your hand??? Alright, bobby jackson hit an unbalanced three with 12 secs remaining. But the game should never have reached that point and they still had 12secs to finish the game with both webber and divac fouled out. Forget it Mr cuban! The chances of your team is very slim. And with spurs playing so well, they(spurs) might end up in the second spot setting the scene for the mavs Vs king in second round. The rest is easily predictable.
Damn, what a night for basketball fan!!!
Shaq and jordan in full flow, two overtime game and arguably the best game of the season so far.(the next being lakers upsetting the mavs early this season).
DWI Posted on 28-Feb-03 09:48 AM

Today the Great one's number will be retired at the Garden.

Patrick Ewing: Pah- Tree'k Eu-ing
Noun,
3-time All-America; led Georgetown to 3 NCAA Finals and 1984 title; Final 4 MOP in '84; 1986 NBA Rookie of Year with New York; All-NBA (1990); on U.S. Olympic gold medal-winning teams in 1984 and '92; named one of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players; retired after 2001-02 season.
DWI Posted on 28-Feb-03 09:49 AM

I will join u guys later in the discussion.
AX Posted on 28-Feb-03 11:29 AM

in addition

- 22.8 points and 10.4 rebounds, top 20 in NBA in both categories
- Named All-NBA second-team six times
- Named to NBA All-Star team 11 times; only 16 players have been selected more
- 9th Knicks player to be retired his jersey in Mecca of Baketball
- took Knicks to 13 of his 15 year career in NY
- Soon going to be named to NBA Hall of Fame

He is the career leader on the following category for the NY KNick:

Games played: 1039
Points: 23,665
FGA: 18,224
FGM: 9,260
FTA: 6,904
FTM: 5,126
Rebounds: 10,759
Steals: 1,061
Blocks: 2,758

He is a true warrior. He was always prepared for the game. I rank him after Shaq, Hakeem and the David R at present day. I enjoyed every game of his on/off screen. It's sad that he never won the championship in NBA even after his promises one after another. He never had a better supporting cast. If John Starks had not bricking shot after shot in 1994 Game 7, he will be calling him a champion. He felt that he was never appreciated in NY w/o championship. I can assure that it will be the day to remember for him and his fans. It was one of the finest moment of my iife, when I saw his last game in MSG as a Magic. I wish I could be there tonight.

Hoping to see more comments from Patrick and Knicks fans......
Rusty Posted on 28-Feb-03 12:53 PM

DWI and AX
I salute Ewing Dai:)
AX Posted on 28-Feb-03 01:26 PM

By Fred Carter, host NBA 2Night, ESPN

Patrick Ewing didn't have a lot of flair, but he was a hard-working, gritty player who showed up every night. He ran up and down the court on injured knees for a good part of his career, but he was always there. Patrick missed very few games and was a consummate competitor.

Ewing's former coach Jeff Van Gundy put it well when he said that Ewing was a "true warrior." He could hit the jump shot facing the basket of the runner across the lane, and the turnaround on the baseline was a patented shot for him. When he got the ball down there you just knew he was going to make it.

All of the above are part of the three things that made Ewing one of the best players in NBA history:

1. Consistency
The best thing we can say about Patrick Ewing the All-Star/Top 50 player is that he came to play every night. He stepped on the court and competed every time the whistle blew. A lot of NBA big men have great ability, but you don't see it every night. That kind of toughness and willingness to compete are rare.

2. Size
Even with his size, Ewing was able to play both inside and outside. He reminded me a lot of Willis Reed, a center who could shoot the jumper and play outside the lane. No center in today's game can compare to Patrick in terms of taking advantage of physical stature. There are guys who are just a big but none with his tenacity.

3. The Full Package
Ewing could do it all -- score, rebound and block shots -- and he played on all parts of the floor. He was difficult to guard because of his ability to make jump shots and post up and he was always among the league leaders in rebounding and blocks. A center with that triple-threat ability is tough to find and just as tough to stop.
DWI Posted on 28-Feb-03 05:56 PM

Ax

Appreicate the input about Ewing and thanks for the care. So u do remember 1994 's Stark's selfish shot. He definately had the full package and the people you mentioned: David Robinson and Olajuwan also command a good respect.

Thanks again for acknowledgement on Ewing. Rusty bro, about turn. Salute!!! at ease!
DWI Posted on 28-Feb-03 07:05 PM

Who says NY doesn't give enough respect to Ewing, the garden will shatter tonight in the chant of Ewing.
DWI Posted on 28-Feb-03 07:10 PM

DWI Posted on 28-Feb-03 10:38 PM

What A NIGHT!!!!
A true deligt for Knicks Fans.
Wasn't that something. To ice the cake, there was 2 overtimes and Spree made all non-foul-shooting-points for Knicks and handed Knicks the victory.
Rusty Posted on 04-Mar-03 10:42 AM

That was amazing victory for the Knicks even though I couldn't watch that night. I don't have cable at home, so I am missing so many games:(

By the way, I've been noticing the Magic’s and two Gooden brothers... Absolutely fantastic performance every night, combining at least 30 - 45 points and at least 15 rebounds.... The day they lost with the Knicks, I saw that Drew Gooden had 24 rebounds and 20 points... Damn, he got the future in the Magic.

So, what's new in NBA? Where're the mav fans and the lakers fan???
Rusty Posted on 04-Mar-03 10:43 AM

DWI, that was cool pic of Ewing dai:)
AX Posted on 04-Mar-03 11:22 AM

Good to see Pat dai ko pic.

Anybody rooting for Spurs now? They are as HOT as anybody can be in NBA. It will be great to see The Admiral exit as a champion. I thought i would see postings here Tim Duncan for the MVP.

Rusty and DWI, tonite match with CAVS will tell the tale of the Knicks for this year. If it is a lottery bound or the playoff team.
DWI Posted on 04-Mar-03 04:56 PM

Nice potrait right Rusty?

AX, I think we shouldn't have problem defeating CAVS. But next schedules are very tough. There was a recent rumor that McDyess might come back around the end of the March. I hardly believe it and if Knicks are not near the top 8, he better not.

Problem is we are not a good contender for top lottery pick either. We have won 25 games while Cavaliers have only 11 games in their pocket. If we had 1st pick, it would be better to trade it with the 2nd pick and dump some salary. LeBron is cool, but Vujanec (a true center from Yougoslavia) is not bad either for the Knicks.

Spurs are always that team with high morality and while Lakers made a 'villain' type of image while winning, they have succeeded to maintain the 'good guys' part of the team. Duncan is one of the best player in the league, not only in his physical skills but also on his moral strength. Contribution wise I think these players are heart and soul of the team, in order of decreasing contribution:
1. Tracy McGrady: Orlando
2. Kevin Garnet: Twolves
3. Duncan: Spurs (Robinson and Parker aren't sitting idle either).
Rusty Posted on 04-Mar-03 09:07 PM

DWI...........:)
Yeah, it's all the way...New York Knickerbockers:)
DWI Posted on 04-Mar-03 09:21 PM

Okay, it's official now that McDyess won't be playing this season, no matter what. He was interviewed by Al Trautwig during 2nd round of tonight's game and he said he would like to play in July, i.e. Summer League. I think that's the best decision.

Speaking about individualistic MVPs, what about a team work? Which of the teams are the best in that department?

Detroit certainly tops that, without a legitimate offensive star (Hamilton? please). One of key to playing top defense is the cohesivity within the team and it certainly is a 'team' team.

I am also surprised by New Orlean's success. Their top player Davis has been out for a while and still their winning streak continues to 7. I thought they will be out of the top 8 comes playoff time. I still hope they do; either Knicks or Wiz can sneak in along with Magic.

Back to back games are not good for Knicks, but if we win tomorrow, we can hope for a winning streak even though the schedule is very tough.
hum-ba-ba Posted on 05-Mar-03 02:12 PM

new orleans have really suprised people by performing so well without baron davis. jamal mashburn is playing like an all star.. and can you believe seattle is 6-1 since getting rid of payton??
DWI Posted on 05-Mar-03 08:21 PM

Took the heart right from where it belongs!! Bad loss tonight to the Celts.

Yeah, Hum-ba-ba, guess Ray Allen is doing a helluva job.
DWI Posted on 07-Mar-03 08:43 PM

Big win for the Knicks tonight.

Knicks are ranked 10th in the Eastern Conference and 9th in Lottery column. I think it is more sensible to root for them.

Heard Grant Hill is out for the season? He'd rather play with an automated robotic legs. he he.

Hey, a stale news, but What about that Roy Jones Jr. He gain some weight to compete for Heavy Weight and he plunged the other guy down. He might be the next World Heavyweight Champ.

Thanks Young
I am 90% sure on TMAC, only thing that can stop him is Magic getting out of the playoffs. KG and Kobe are right behind.

Only Wills Reed from Knicks on MVP...Rusty! khelna jane haina, for New Yorks? We might as well get a MVP.

NY Jets fan might have gotten biggest disappoint in the recent NFL trades. Lavernius Coles will be signed by the high paying Redskins, that's a big loss (wide receiver) for a west coast offense team. Another blow for NYers, Rangers lost..might have sunk with any hopes left for the playoff.

NBA Team Attendance per game:

HOME:
1. Washington 20, 173
2. Pistons 20,126
3. Mavs 19,897
9. Lakers 18,967
10. Knicks 18,937
22. Nets 14,920 (haha)

Road:
1. Washington 19,095
2. Lakers 18,872
3. Sixers 18,188.
8. Knicks 17,146

Total:
1. Washington 19,677
2. Lakers 18,925
5. Knicks 18,084

Demonstrates that even though Knicks aren't even on top 20 NBA teams, they rank 5th on total attendance. Go Knicks fan.
I however condemn those stupid front row seat fans in last few games of Knicks. Those who booed Shandon Anderson when he was shooting the final free throw. Those who booed Jordan on Patrick Ewing night.
Ax might say how do you justify it, well that's just not a loyal knicks fan...ask Rusty. Just bunch of corporate ticket holders who consume the tickets that other fans would die to get.
Rusty Posted on 11-Mar-03 08:04 PM

Young,
it's good that you also keep log of NBA history. Actually, I feel bad to see that MVP list because my *own* knickerbocker brother Ewing never showed up in that list:(

He certainly derserved that MVP, but it was his bad luck of his career.. Anyways, he on the top 50 players of all time...:)

DWI bro
looks like we really need some MVP from Knickerbocker team. Why don't we join 'em?? I play the point guard position and you play forward, believing that you're taller guy e with versatile agility...how does that sound?? I will play with killer instinct... Won't let my team sunk...:)
DWI Posted on 11-Mar-03 08:53 PM

Jason Williams (Grizzlies) just ripped the heart from Knicks fans tonight. Knicks were playing good but they had the last posession and made good use of it. Its almost like our hope is gone now. I think Knicks should seriously think of tanking the season now, even though it is too late.
Rusty, That's what I am talking 'bout. Hey I will play shooting guard. Its in your hand to run the offense now, bro.
YoUnGblOOdz Posted on 11-Mar-03 10:01 PM

Glad to be back in this thread.

I am starting to feel sorry for the NY Knicks. another defeat to lowly Grizzlies. I really do think they are done for the season. And they need to think about next year, be it draft or trade.

And what's up with Don Chaney, him ripping the knicks fan. Is his job secure now?

hu hu glad to see "the Round Mound of Rebound" name here. I know its unfair to compare him with Pat dai, they don't play same postion. Both future hall of famers got almost the same stats. anyway here's comparision of him with Knicks great Patricki:

C.B. P.E.
Games Played: 1,073 1183
Rebounds: 11.70 9.8
Assits: 3.9 1.9
Steals: 1.54 .96

"Ax might say how do you justify it, well that's just not a loyal knicks fan...ask Rusty. Just bunch of corporate ticket holders who consume the tickets that other fans would die to get. "

If i were the Knicks mgmt, I would cancel their from next season who were rooting for the MJ to win and sitting in the front rows. If you are not Knicks fan, then you would not be able to sit front seats. Like they did to Spike Lee in Indiana during the playoffs few years back.
DWI Posted on 12-Mar-03 01:56 PM

AX,
We had a similar discussion in another boards about how mgmt should cancel those season ticket holder. First off, that's not a legitimate solution. Besides those morones don't even come reguarly, they were there for MJ. But one thing conclusive was that they weren't Knicks fans. Houston, Shandon Anderson and Don Chaney were ripping those morones, not the fans.
NepaliThito Posted on 12-Mar-03 07:19 PM

Lakers are the great! They are doing great esp, KOBE BRYANT. He's got the skill. East or West KOBE is the BEST!!!!!!!
Dilasha Posted on 12-Mar-03 09:51 PM

Didn't get to read the whole thread but since the topic's about NBA, I thought I'd drop my comments as well. Although I've been a huge fan of the lakers this year I'm cheering for my other two favorite teams and hope they reach the finals. The Timberwolves or The Mavericks. KG and Nowitzk/Nash- I think they're the best in their teams. From the east, I'd like Iverson's team to go to the finals. I just love that myan!!
Dilasha Posted on 12-Mar-03 09:52 PM

Btw, NBA-certainly love it live!!! :)

DWI Posted on 23-Mar-03 09:00 PM

Right here dude.

For a while, felt like talking to a wall, so abandoned it; went to Knicks messageboard.

But we're back now. What a game against Lakers, for San Antonio. I've started hating Lakers again (coz of stupid Shaq). It would be lovely to see Lakers going out on 1st round.

Well, Knicks can beat Wizards in the top 10 game but Bucks are rising high again. We lost a heartbreaker (how many times?) in Chicago last night. But still watching it man.
Good thing, Baseball is coming.
DWI Posted on 23-Mar-03 09:11 PM

Hey how about Tiger winning the bay hill (4 times straight). He had food poisoning from the pasta that his girlfriend made and was hurt everytime he tee'd. but he still won with -11 better than the rest.
Is Tiger better in golf than MJ in basketball?
Rusty Posted on 29-Mar-03 04:13 PM

Is Tiger better in golf than MJ in basketball?
-- There's no analogy, compare or contrast because they play two different sports. But, skills and body control can certainly be comparable. Both of them got versatility to be the top stars, and both of them are brilliant and unstopable players, who refuse to lose:)

About the Knickerbockers, they still has chance to sneak into the play-offs. No wonder. Wizards are no better than the Knicks. I still hope they will make the play-offs. What you think about TMac and Kobe? WHo's better?
khimu Posted on 29-Mar-03 06:36 PM

kobe dude didn,t you see last night 55 point. i was extremliy happy for him last night
He did it man MJ was nothing and tracy yeah! he is also like kobe but may be 99%
GUY Posted on 29-Mar-03 10:28 PM

Hey Guys.....don't u see it straight??? Kobe, will make it......He's sure for the MVP this year....He just had the season's highest point, 55 in his game Vs the Wizards.....He stole MJ's game....and MJ can't deny the fact that Kobe is a tough player.....a "Killer Instinct" as Rusty said.. He's had muliple records this season.....He's always brought the spark and his innovative, fashionable moves just holds me spellbound!! T-Mac comes close but he'll not be able to overcome the charisma of KB.....Well the season rolls on.... We'll see it at the playoffs....
Rusty Posted on 31-Mar-03 08:19 AM

All right sport fans, its almost play-offs time, so its time to foresee who will win the race for the title. From the beginning of this season, the Mavericks have been persistently maintaining their triumphant velocity with the best record-- of the season02-03 and the franchise history, while everybodys favorite team LA Lakers have been wretchedly enduring the worst record after defending three back-to-back titles. Having said thatbased on the team stats until now, can we assert that the Lakers are now strayed from the championship race, and the Mavs has the authority to confiscate the title?

It cant be denied that the Mavs can go to the conference final; in contrast, it cant be avowed that they will win the title because they are currently playing at their best to hold the number one spot in NBA, offensively. Well, they have satisfactory amount of experience, with the same stars and the Mavericks riding atop their leagues, to get ahead of first round of the play-offs. However, they are still lack of understanding-- with or without Don Nelson, who awarded coach of the year three times-- what it takes to be a champion. And the Lakers and pioneer Phill Jackson know it very well. Likewise, Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich know it adequately.

Apparently, the Mavs will encounter hard-hitting match up in the conference final if they ever make it to that peak. They obviously are neither good rebounding team, nor best defensive team. They cant win the big ones until they can cork the middle with a more aggressive dominant center. They need a guy with some swagger in the middle like a Shaq or Ben Wallace. Right now all they have are big time shooters, but the defense is still suffering. And, they cant rely on jump shoots and zone defense. They need more shots inside the paint. But, how? Of course, they apparently cant get much aid from bungling Shawn Bradley even though hes the tallest player of NBA.

Don Nelson doesn't coach defense. He believes his team can outscore every team in the league. But the Kings, who can perhaps be the biggest speed breaker for this team, have great shooters also, and they play good defense. So does San Antonio Spurs.

Yet, they are not physical team. Everybody knows that playing physical game is extremely important in topsy-turvy tournaments. They are going to be big underdogs and have a lot to prove. They just need to be tougher mentally. When they get a cushion they sometimes lose their momentum. The key to winning is not a talent questions; it is a question of whether or not they believe in themselves enough to refuse to lose. Just look at the way they started blowing out the Lakers but gave it away that night. They can do it, if they want it bad enough.

Ok, I am tired of writing& Give us your opinion about who can win the title. Overall, my limitation Spurs, Lakers, and Kings!!!
AX Posted on 31-Mar-03 09:15 AM

And here floods all the Lakers and Kobe fans. Where were you guys when they playing bad. What did he score last nite against Supersonic???

No doubt he is a fun to watch. He is a good player, but not great. Comparision him to MJ is a shame. MJ is a great motivator and made all the other players better. I have not seen from Kobe this yet. Till Shaql retires, LA Lakers is his team.

I do expect to see him more from him in coming years tho. Still counting him to win the MVP??? oh please.

and where's all the KG and wolves fans??? I am sure this is same as previous years for them. Trip to first round that's about it. Kevin McHale gave him outrageous contract. The team won't be able to sign another marquee players. Wolves would be better team if they can trade him. Blazers and MAVS the money. I doubt MAVs are interested in him. They already have Nowtizki, who I think is better than KG. And Blazers reamins the one team. How about KG for Rasheed W. and Damon S.? Is that possible?

I think TD should win the award this year too. He would be the only player after MJ to win it 2 in a row. I am sure his nos are not that great of others, but he is carrying the team. KG has another All star in his team and we all know who Kobe plays with. If TD is not in that team, they would be lottery bound team.

Here's my choices for the MVP:

Tim Duncan, Tracy McGrady, Allen Iverson, Dirk Nowtizki, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant.

AX Posted on 31-Mar-03 09:38 AM

Rusty, Good insight about the MAVS and Don Nelson :)

Here's my 2 cents about MAVS. They are much better team than last year. They are playing good defense but does not have same intensity 48 mins. I am sure we will be talking more about this MAVS in coming years. I don't think this is the year for them, even they have best record at this time. Surprise to you, Dallas has better record defensivley than the LAKERS and the KINGS. Najera is the key to thier defense. I hope to see more Najera in the floor as the playoff begins.

Rusty, do you really think combination of Raf LaFrentz and Shawn Bradely is not enuf for the Center? They average 16 points and 11 rebounds a game.

I think they will dismantle Blazers in 2nd round. Will finally loose to the Spurs.

I am glad that the Baseball season started. I am hopeful there will be another thread for the MLB.

GO YANKEES GO!!!
GUY Posted on 31-Mar-03 09:48 AM

Every day is not Sunday...!!! AX
3 Consecutive NBA Champions.... What does that tell you Rusty?? Players like McGrady, TD, KG and Ben Wallace are all there for the MVP title...but what's so special about KB that others player lack?? How does he hold up all the records??? Simply, in Plain English...He's the best..!! His 12 3-point shots in a game, youngest player to score 10,000 points, 9 straight games with 40 points....!! Doesn't that ring a bell?? Check out his rankings in every field...and rate him to other players (KG, TD , Ben Wallace and McGrady) I bet you'll see the difference...

Dallas are playing great.....!!! But, oh.....the way the Portland Blazers beat them.....was intolerable....!! I feel poorly for them.!! Nowitzki....plays good..but not yet to compete for the MVP....
I can't fit Iverson in the picture....Jason Kidd..umm not this year.!!! The rest...we'll have to check out in the next season..!!!
Rusty Posted on 31-Mar-03 10:33 AM

AX nice analysis, but
you said: Dallas has better record defensivley than the LAKERS and the KINGS.
Maybe you're right about the lakers. HOwever I want a team comparision with the Kings.

Points Per Game
Mavs- 103.5 (1)
Kings- 101.8 (3)

Pts. Allowed Per Game
M- 94.9
K- 95.3

Offensive RPG
M- 11.4
K- 10.9

Defensive RPG
M- 30.9
K- 33.5

Assists Per Game
M- 22.3
K- 24.8

Blocks Per Game
M- 5.64
K- 5.73

Steals Per Game
M- 8.03
K- 8.96

It's time consuming to compare with the Spurs. We could do that too....

Rusty Posted on 31-Mar-03 10:40 AM

Let's look at the key factors of defend....

Pts. Allowed Per Game
M- 94.9
K- 95.3
--- Mavs are slightly better.

Offensive RPG
M- 11.4
K- 10.9
--Surprised that the Mavs are little better.

Defensive RPG
M- 30.9
K- 33.5
-- Kings far better.

Blocks Per Game
M- 5.64
K- 5.73
--Kings better

Steals Per Game
M- 8.03
K- 8.96
--Kings better.

In rebounding, the Mavs are 14th position in the league. Don't surprise-- GW are the best. Well, based on the above stats of defense, the Kings certainly look better in defensively..
Rusty Posted on 31-Mar-03 10:57 AM

AX said: do you really think combination of Raf LaFrentz and Shawn Bradely is not enuf for the Center?
Well, combination of both looks fairly good against the Kings' center Divac, but NOT against Tim Duncan and Shaq.

Guy, I just want to simply say that Kobe is not consistent player even though he's averaging little over 30 points. And note this down-- any team can beat the Lakers if Shaq is not there. Kobe alone cant hoist his team, neither can coordinate his teammates. Of course, Shaq's productivity and efficiency fading up over the time. Maybe he is over-dose of MVPs and championships. Remember, Tmac-- who is averaging 32.3, 2 points better more than kobehas managed to survive in the race without Grant Hill. The Lakers and Kobe wouldnt be at this record if Shaq was out for the whole season like Grant Hill. I think TMac is far better consistent player and I would take Tmac over Kobe, anytime:)
YoUnGblOOdz Posted on 31-Mar-03 11:28 AM

rusty bro.. how bout KG.. look at the man.. only man to carry the whole team in 5th or 6th spot frm the west.. where there r the best teams of league.. i donno wanna know neither i care bout other.. but for this season.. NO MATTER WUT>> KG DESERVE THE MVP>.. he not only scores fo the team.. but assist.. rebounds.. makes the play.. n most importantly.. he's a good leader.. he's got the ability of leadership.. kobe's got skill no doubt bout that.. hey scoring 40 points after attempting 40 shots.. its quite weird. i hope ya got mah point..

n this time SAN ANTONIO GONNA WHOOP EVERYONE"S ARSE??> THEY THE BEST>>>

YB
Rusty Posted on 31-Mar-03 11:45 AM

Young,
Well, Our discussion was regading two stars: Kobe Vs TMac. KG was never involved in our discussion, despite the fact that he's #1 efficient player of NBA. He's done everything to lift his team and to coordinate his teamates. And yes, he deserves the MVP award-- no doubt. Only thing I am afraid is his *team record*. That can be the only reason TD can supersede on KG. Also, you are right about Kobe-- he takes lots of shots + lot of free throws to accumulate maximum possible points per game, while Shaq is amongst the best in field goal percentage.
Rusty Posted on 31-Mar-03 11:46 AM

Also, Spurs has 70% chance to win the NBA title this season.
Rusty Posted on 31-Mar-03 01:00 PM

Too many postings from me today: BTW, who do you think will be the most improved player of the year??

--My guess is - Cavs' Ricky Davis whose ppg was 1107, now 20.5. But, rest of his stat looks crap, except for his assist which has 2.2 has gone up to 5.5 per game. I don't see any other player....

Ben Wallace is defensive player of the year -- 100% confirm....
AX Posted on 31-Mar-03 01:43 PM

Guy said: Every day is not Sunday...!!! AX
what that suppose to mean? Lakers will win every year when shaq and kobe are around? is that what you are trying to prove? if so dream on. it won't be happening this year.

Guy said: Players like McGrady, TD, KG and Ben Wallace are all there for the MVP title...but what's so special about KB that others player lack??

I won't put any of the above players with TD. He is on his own league. He is the complete player where others are few years behind. He is the player that you want as your teammate.

I won't be surprise to hear Kobe wanting to depart from Lakers after they loose in the playoffs. That kinda player he is. He is the most selfish player in the NBA there is now. If it was not the Shaq, he would be nowhere.
k_loaded Posted on 31-Mar-03 01:49 PM

Nice to see bunch of information here with playoffs knocking our door.
No wonder there's gonna be some conflict about what we predict. But thats only gonna help make this place more intresting.
My comments......well, i will take back my words for taking kobe as this year mvp earlier this season. He may end up being runner up or in third position. Well may be the MVP!!!
But if you look as a whole, KG deserves and should be this year most valuable player until and unless they blow up their remainning games. They are doing so right now(3 losts). But they still have a shot for home court advantage. Duncan is going to challenge him hard. Hard to pick from them. But i would go for kg for the fact that he has better stats than duncan this year and they both play same position. And if spurs can dethrone mavs for the best record we have a different scenario which favors duncan and only duncan.
For championship title, i will take lakers any time. But only thing that concern me this year as lakers fan is the "spurs". Maan!, that would be last team we would wanna play if we had choice. We dont mind mavs or king in the first round.
We have a great month of basketball to follow.
chillax.
AX Posted on 31-Mar-03 01:54 PM

Rusty, nice comparision between the KINGS and the MAVS. KINGS might be slightly better (if you want to say). But i was trying to prove to you was that they are better than the last year, and you have to watch out for them next year.

Rusty said: Well, combination of both looks fairly good against the Kings' center Divac, but NOT against Tim Duncan and Shaq.

I would be glad to know if there are any other names who can compete with those two. And TD usually plays the PF positions, where lots of name like CWEBB, Rasheed will come up. I don't think there is anybody who can compete with Shaq at this point of his career.

I do agree with Rusty about the Kobe and Lakers situation. He is not even the first option in his own team, how the HELL he can win the MVP. I am wondering what's the reason behind his meltdown (beside 55 points game against MJ). We all know what happened to the Shaq this year and where the team has headed.

k_loaded Posted on 31-Mar-03 02:07 PM

I just think you are little off-line, Ax. You have little wrong impression about kobe and the lakers. Common thats not fare call for kobe- the most sellfish player in NBA, if you admit.
AX Posted on 31-Mar-03 02:11 PM

I have been trying to tell you guys since the start of the season. Glad to see you in SPURS bandwagon.

TD should wint he MVP this year. MVP should not be about the nos.

And don't forget ppl, KG has Wally as his sidekick. Wally is a true All Star. Wolves fan, what really happened to the JOE SMITH??? is he still in the league??? He was the no. 1 pick on the draft sometime back if i recall.
AX Posted on 31-Mar-03 02:16 PM

OFFLINE. He is better than Ricky Davis. you happy now k_loaded :-)

no doubt Kobe cares much about his stats than the team. Like every other players, he will learn about it as he gets older.
DWI Posted on 31-Mar-03 04:06 PM

Okay, this post is On again. I don't get it.

I like your analysis on Mavs Rusty. As Ax said, Mavs are indeed improved. They are a better defensive team than last year and you can count on Donny to make good plays, when playoff comes. No Ax, Shawn Bradley and Raef LaFrentz aren't a championship centers. They are good for regular season, not playoffs. Making the first round, a series of 7 games would be best for the team like Mavs. But I can't bet on them. They will goto the second round at best.

I will put my money on Spurs, Kings and Lakers, in that order. SPURS indeed should be the favorites. Kings have learned from their mistakes, expect them in either conference final or semi final.

As for the MVP, I stick to my earlier pick T Mac. But Kobe and Garnett Duncan and Kidd (still?) are sure their to grab it.
khimu Posted on 31-Mar-03 04:47 PM

i am surprised Lakers got new uniform this year the white one you know ,but i think this white one is badluck for them when they play with white dress they lose. Yellow one is lucky for them i guess! The funny thing is i already broke my 2 sets of TV remotcontrol you know why if i am watching Lakers game if they lose i feel very bad and i throw my remot without seening twice i hit the my computer table oh! man i am destroying my room. I dono what going to happen tonight Lakers going to play with MeM.
wake up Kobe
DWI Posted on 31-Mar-03 04:53 PM

Khimu bro, take it easy on your remote controller.

But I think the badluck is not associated to the uniform. More so, it is for the fact that they wear the uniform in 'away-games'. Homegames are relatively easier for all teams. They get the fan support and even referee will give you more calls. Ask Chicago, they would be in the playoffs if they could only play home games.
AX Posted on 31-Mar-03 07:42 PM

DWI said: No Ax, Shawn Bradley and Raef LaFrentz aren't a championship centers. They are good for regular season, not playoffs.

I never said they are championship center. I don't think there is any center beside Shaq who can lift the championship. (TD plays more PF position) MAVS is not the center oriented team. They have great players at PG, SF, PF positions. They should not have any problem getting to the West championship. I am sure there are lots of teams espcially in the East to have one of them, where true center lacks.

I think they are 1-2 year away from championship. It will be fun to watch them next year.......
DWI Posted on 31-Mar-03 08:06 PM

That's true Ax. I think there will be few trades next year in this team when they realize they can't win with the current roster. In reality, they just need a little bit of adjustment. Dirk has a big potential to be a prominent star, he can carry the team.

Didn't say you did, Ax. Was merely answering your doubt about the centers. But with all the teams focusing on a good center, and with a famine of eligible centers, they should come to the terms on building the team without one. Championships can be won without an excellent center.
yOuNgBlOoDz Posted on 31-Mar-03 09:13 PM

c'mon AX give urself a break.. we need change.. we dont' want ONE TEAM TO DOMINANT THE NBA> HELLO NO>> WE NEED SUMONE ELSE TO bE chAMPION>> NO NO NO LAKER>> WE WANT>> SAC Or SA OR MAVS>> OR PORt... but no laker this tyme pls..... no

khimu Posted on 31-Mar-03 09:30 PM

why not youngbloodz you will see they gonna make it this year too!
Lakers is Lakers man untill Shaq is here no one gonna stop him, Kobe is right behind him
one more year got Shaq to play so this year and next year Lakers going to be cham
Lakers strait 5 champ you know
Rusty Posted on 01-Apr-03 06:49 AM

To all Shaq's fan and Lakers fan ( I ain't)....

There was a time when the rivalry between two foremost centers, Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain, was an elating thing to watch. While arguing about the most dominant centers in NBA history, these two names, Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain, should never be forgotten. Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain are the measuring stick by which all-current NBA centers are measured. Russell-- who is the greatest winner in league history after leading the Celtics to 11 championships--is also five times season MVP. Chamberlain, who scored 100 in a game against the Knicks (!!!), never beat Russell in NBA finals, but won two titles in his career. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who scored more points than anyone else in league history, is another big man as dominant center in NBA history.

Now, here comes our O'neal broda, Shaq is undoubtedly the diamond standard amongst today's centers. At 7-1 and 335 plus pounds, he has been unstoppable force in the paint over a decade, and Lakers three back-to-back championships are testament to that fact. Now, who will he pass his torch to&?? Perhaps, Houston's 7-6, Yao Ming will one day ascend to O'neal's throne.

The issue here is there's no rival for Shaq even though Shaqs productivity is diminishing. However, he can do what he really desires because of his size, agility, and experience. Now, question here is who can stop Shaq? Would the combination of Bradley and LaFrentz enough to stop Shaq?? Is the combination of Divac and Scot Pollard enough? None of the scheme or combination of current players can fence Shaq's move...

You people talk about Kobe being MVP. Again, I want to assert that any team, even Clippers or Warriors or Heat, can beat the Lakers if you remove Shaq from the roster. Of course, Kobe can exhibit his one-man delightful show, but his solely demonstrated performance will not be enough to beat their formidable foes.

Again: I stick to my previous teams for champianship:
Spurs, Kings, and Lakers

My MVP: Tim Duncan, KG has slight chance..

Defensive player: Ben Wallace

Most Improved: Ricky Davis

Coach of the year:????

Somebody mentioned about Joe Smith. He's quietly playing with the Wolves, I guess.

YoUnGblOOdz Posted on 01-Apr-03 07:21 AM

khimu ji.. lakers were lakers back then.. not today..

DWI Posted on 01-Apr-03 10:13 AM

Replace 'K' in the Lakers with 'T'. They will shine Later.

I seriously think Kobe or T Mac might grab the MVP. Rusty, how about giving Don Chaney the coach of the year? just kidding, but he did improved the team.

Khimu and Young, sorry but the late season glitters of the Lakers won't be enough to defeat Sac Queens or Spurs.

As for the Knicks, I will take solace on the fact that we swept Spurs this season.

AX Posted on 01-Apr-03 10:24 AM

Rusty, thanks for writing about NBA Centers in this thread. No doubt, Wilt and Rusell names come up while talking about dominating centers. Russell has won more championship than others, but he was more known to his defensive game than offensive. He was surrounded by better players than Wilt did. Wilt Chamberlain was a complete player. They battled many times, but they had great relationship and admiration for each others.

Chamberlain averaged 25.7 points and 28 rebounds to Russell's 14.9 points and 24.7 rebounds head-to-head.

GP PPG RPG APG
Wilt: 1045 30.1 22.9 4.4
Bill: 963 15.1 22.5 4.3

Following links have more info about them:
http://espn.go.com/classic/biography/s/Russell_Bill.html

http://espn.go.com/classic/biography/s/chamberlain_wilt.html

Kareem was more of a offensive players and yes he still holds the record for the most point scored. I would put Hakeem name on this list too. He was unstoppable in his prime. i would put Shaq #3 all time Center behind Wilt Chamberlain (Rusty, i know you disagree with on this one) and Bill Russell.

nets, pistons, 76ers, pacers, new orel, celtics, magic, millwakee

EASTERN CONFERENCE SEMIFINAL
DWI Posted on 01-Apr-03 11:40 AM

Rusty, my prediction matches with yours, except on the MVP department. May be I would put T Mac above Duncan. Ax, I second you on saying Shaq is 3rd best center to ever exist, Wilt being the first and Bill being the second.

Khimu, sounds like a Bracket game?
I will post my prediction as soon as the plays are set for the playoffs.
Rusty Posted on 01-Apr-03 11:46 AM

DWI,
I wish Don Cheney would be the coach of the year:)
Kurt Thomos - most improved:)
Sprewell - Defensive player:)
eehehe!! nice imagination Rusty!!! LOL But, we need a big change in the KNicks next season. kNICKS MANAGEMENT must trade everybody else, but NO HOUSTON and KURT THOMOS.....

I wish they would just look at the personal stats to select MVP. If that's the case, TMac should be awarded for MVP. As mentioned earlier, I would take TMac over Kobe, any time..... Tmac is more consistant player; HAVE YOU NOTICED THAT HE HAS BEEN SCORING 30+ PINTS IN LAST 14-15 GAMES, regardless of win or lose. Well, the Magics were taking full advantage two rookies, but Gorden is injured later... Otherwise, they would be little better. Two rookies combine 30+ points and 10+ rebounds against Mike Miller's stat. Watch the Magics next season.... Champianship might come back to east:)

AX,
I won't disagree with you. I also take Shaq as #3 center. But, past is past... these days games are more physical and competative. It's not Wilt or Rusell's era where they averaged 22/23 rebounds per game. WOw.. who can do that NOW? No Ben Wallace or No KG. Only difference is- Wilt stopped Rusell in their era; today there's no one to stop Shaq....

Yes, purposly, I didn't include Hakeem Olajuan in this context, because if I include him, I can't exclude our OWN EWING brother even though he never won any MVP or titles!!!

AX Posted on 01-Apr-03 12:33 PM

Most Improved Player: As much as I dislike NJ Nets, Jefferson name should be there. Nos. on Rickey looks great, he is their go to guy.

Coach of the Year: Isaah Thomas, Greg Povovich, Don Nelson, Rick Carlisle

Defensive Player of the Year: No doubt Ben Wallace will win this year again.

MVP: TD, TMAC, AI, Nowitzki, KG, Kobe

Worst Performance: Air Canada??? may be ppl were expecting to much from him. Golden State mite be liking the trade now. swap for jamison with carter

East: 76ers over Pacers ( would love to see Magic tho)

West: Spurs over Mavs

Championship: spurs over 76ers (in 5 games)
Rusty Posted on 01-Apr-03 01:08 PM

AX,
Don Nelson for the fourth time.....Coach of the year. Good.
Jefferson is playing as good as last year, so there's no improvment on him.
Rusty Posted on 01-Apr-03 01:11 PM

Orlandos Tracy McGrady and Los Angeles Lakers Shaquille ONeal today were named Western Conference and Eastern Conference Players of the Month, respectively, for games played for the month of March.

McGrady averaged 36.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists while leading the Magic to a 10-5 record for the month. See this-- this is what I was talking about.

ONeal averaged 31.6 points and 2.88 Assists while grabbing 11.0 rebounds per game in leading the Lakers to an 11-5 record for the month.

k_loaded Posted on 01-Apr-03 01:26 PM

This thread is growing so fast that it is hard to keep track what people is really talking about. I have to say we have a very different and diverse opinion about the game and the players and which is intresting.
I will again defend my lakers and kobe and shaq.
There's no doubt whatsoever that shaq is still way ahead of everyone. Everyone's choice!
But about kobe......As AX said he the most selfish player around. ??? Ofcourse he is. And very few players in this league can afford to be and play selfish. Luckily he is one of them and plays very well selfish game. I think AX ji has this anti-lakers or lets say anti-kobe sentiments. You have your freedom of choice.
Comparing kobe with T-mac will remain controversial. But i will have to pick kobe for overall performance.
AX Posted on 01-Apr-03 02:06 PM

K_loaded, you seem to agree with me that he is one of the most selfish player in NBA. No doubt he is a good player with huge potential. I hope as he get older he will get to know how to be a more of a team player than worrying about his scoring title and the personal stats. I am sure he will be doing more like AI in philly is doing. AI was the selfish there you could find in NBA few years back and now he is team player. Philly is doing much better w/o AI winning the scoring title.

Great players make their sorrounding player better. There is no doubt that if he is going to play another 5 year with this pace, he will be 1st ballot in HALL of FAME. I am sure he will learn big time after loosing the 1st round to Spurs :-)
Spurs over Lakers in 5 game

as you said K-loaded, comparision between TMAC and Kobe will controversial. They bnoth leaped to the NBA from high school and plays in the same position. Kobe burst into the NBA earlier than TMAC did. I think at this point TMAC is lil' ahead than KOBE.
AX Posted on 01-Apr-03 02:08 PM

here's another controversial Q to you basketball fans.......

does Scottie Pippen deserve to be in a NBA HALL OF FAME???
khimu Posted on 01-Apr-03 02:25 PM

golden state (warriors) is very close for palyy off, do you guys think they will make it?
Areena (pudke) is playing very good. i am supporting them because my teams name also warriors but we didn,t play anymore i was the next Kobe but i was in Warriors team so i didn,t feel good we stop khelna last winter.
so k-loaded you like Kobe too hun!
do you guys ever see shaqs collage basketball game damn he is the one can you guys believe it he broke the basketball poll and twice basketball poll glass. He is not only point
scoreing guy he did unforgetable thing and he is very funny guy. i coun,t stop laugh when he was trying to drible the ball in 2003 all-star game, everybody was laughing pet michimichi re and myself
DWI Posted on 01-Apr-03 03:10 PM

Ax, indeed a thing to ponder upon. I guess, they will eventually give Pippen his Hall of Fame. How about that new rookie in Portland, he is arrested for possession of Marijuana. I guess they teach how to use Pots in Portland.

Khimu, I think Suns and Houstons have a better chance than Warriors, although they had a good season. I think, Suns will make it, Marbury really can explode at times.

K-loaded, I ain't a Lakers fan. Don't like Kobe either, but he sure is the best player in NBA right now. But I still would give T Mac the MVP.
k_loaded Posted on 01-Apr-03 09:36 PM

Taking about kobe again and his selfishness, what account would one take to measure one's selfishness? And what makes him more selfish than T-mac or Iverson. One account we can take is FGAs. Kobe leads the pack with iverson and mcgrady to follow. But mcgrady leads all of them in FGA per 48 min. And if we take no of assist per game than kobe leads both of them. Measure this way wont make much of a difference among them. There are other factors too. One can look on how the team is built and what kind of game plan they adopt. Some critics say its too many shots for kobe to attempt with shaq on the team. Other argue that done on harm to both kobe and his team. In fact, he developing as the best allrounder in the league. And i dont know how it comes in someone mind that kobe is playing more for stat than for his team. Neither his body language nor his game style will tell us that. He sometimes take tough shot, but makes it. So does mcgrady and iverson and nash and so on. Thats how guards play and so did jordan.
However, i must admit that he played selfishly early in his career. There were lots of complaining from his teammates. But now everybody repects him as a complete player and what he does on both end of the court. Some complain he is not as consistant as mcgrady. Shaq being in that team should answer that. But with three back to back championship rings at his age and with that load of pottential, hard work and produtivity he deserve all that respect and glory not just someone picking on his game. And he is our best player. T-mac may take away the mvp title(i doubt with KG ,TD and KB there) but we are almost sure to see kobe's name on both list this year
1. ALL NBA FIRST TEAM
2. ALL-DEFENSIVE FIRST TEAM(was in all-defensive second team last year).
His name in the second list last year and suposedely this year too is what seperates him from T-mac. T-mac has yet too establish himself as a defensive impact. But still picking kobe over T-mac is my personal choice.
AX Posted on 02-Apr-03 09:22 AM

K_loaded said: "One account we can take is FGAs. Kobe leads the pack with iverson and mcgrady to follow. But mcgrady leads all of them in FGA per 48 min"

K-loaded here is something for you to check. TMAC is the first option and so is AI and Kobe is not. Shaq is there go to guy and Kobe still leads the league in FGA. What does that say to you?

But I do agree with you he is not as selfish as he used to be. As I said previously as he grows older, he will learn how to be a team guy.

No doubt he is one of the best player in the NBA now. He is fun to watch tho. He could make the ALL NBA first team but I doubt for all defensive first team.

Rusty,

They should have ask this Q

Who do you want to take the last winning shot?
a. Iverson (my choice)
b. Tim Duncan
c. Tracey McGrady
d. Kobe Bryant
e. Paul Pierce

NO Shaq does not count here (he will be fouled and we all know about his FT)

DWI Posted on 02-Apr-03 02:06 PM

Thanks for the survey Rusty, who did it? NBA?

I would still go with Kobe for the last shot.

So Rusty hates J. Kidd. We share the emotions on hating New Jersey, hate 'em bad. But, for some reason, I like J. Kidd. He just doesn't seem to belong to the NJ jharpats.

I am torn between Yao Ming (asian sentiments) and Amare Stoudamire.

26.9% to Jay Williams???
I know he was a great College player but NBA is not the same. Does he even starts the game? I guess voters were confused with Jay Williams from Memphis Grizzlies :)
AX Posted on 02-Apr-03 02:43 PM

All the polling seems to be taken in West Coast area at least Lakers territory. Shaq and Kobe spliting the first vote for the MVP???

Did Shaq even played 41 games this season???

Rusty, I agree with you. Dirk should be in MVP race. He has put up great nos even playing along side with great scorers.

Following are the nos. for my MVP choices

Pts. Rebs. Assists team (win)
T. Duncan 23.6 12.9 3.9 54
T. McGrady 32.4 6.5 5.6 39
A. Iverson 27.6 4.1 5.3 44
D. Nowitzki 24.6 9.8 2.9 56
K. Bryant 30.2 6.8 5.9 43
K. Garnett 23.1 13.3 5.9 46

Basketball Manias...
Great that you have the spirit of this game going......We are entering the playoffs soon...and we are pretty much sure about who will make the playoffs....Let's hold on to our seats to feel the spark in the playoffs....
Everyone feels.....the MVP could either go to
Kobe Bryant
Tracy McGrady
Tim Duncan
Kevin Garnett
Ben Wallace
Allen Iverson

Pretty tough players.....huh?? I am a LA hooter....Who could I go for?? Ofcourse, the inevitable Kobe.....
Who thinks Kobe is selfish?? Shaq....just takes advantage of his 7'2 body stature slamming a dunk.....The perimeter shot is all in Kobe's hands....If he isn't there to shoot....whose wiling to do it?? The whole team relies on his shots.....and you can't ignore the versatility he possess....
My opinions on other players...
Tim Duncan is a fundamental player....You make a big difference for your team...but why aren't u much talked about??
Jason Kidd...one of the best guard in th NBA.....Dude you better start shooting well..... Just the assist won't do much to hold you to the MVP...and you don't have the moves..
Allen Iverson....I don't think this is your season
Kevin Garnett......You're on a 100 million dollar contract.....You've gotta make it worth....... Dude, your moves aren't that appealing....
Shaq.......have you ever shot a 3 pointer???
Ben Wallace....I haven't really seen your games much...but you do the rebounding well....and your blocks are always there.
McGrady.....you're a good shooter.....I think you're too skinny to hold yourself firm to other players..

Rusty Posted on 03-Apr-03 08:23 AM

Kimu,
AX has appropriate list of MVP candidate and Ricky Davis instead of Kobe? What a extraneous points you are making with your fury!!

DWI,
Yes, same as you, I hate all Nets' roster..from KMart to Jason Kidd. I just don't know why JK has too much hype as the MVP candidate, despite the fact that he's an excellent point guard in NBA. As said earlier, where's the hype for Dirk Noitzki? I think he's put every single efforts to carry on his team to put on the top. In the other words, why isn't he in MVP list? I hope NBA officials are not being racist to hand any MVP award to any foreign nationals. I think Haakeem Ojauan had got MVP award in 94-95.

Why is Kobe -- who can't sustain many wins without Shaq-- there and why Noitzki not there?? Kobe's fans, note that I am not going against Kobe here....

GUY said: Shaq.......have you ever shot a 3 pointer??? Valid question. Does he have all the skills a true basketball player needed?? NO...

Question of the day: what would happen to Shaq if no players can *touch* the rim to make any hoops:) ???? I mean no players can dunk!!!
Rusty Posted on 03-Apr-03 10:40 AM

Too many injuries in Magic, Wizards loss...all good for the Knicks:)

DWI, will the Knicks make the play-offs? Malai chai pugcha bhanne aasa cha:)

K-loaded, I guess I have not watched Lakers game this year. when did Kobe start to come from the bench as the sixth player :)

K_loaded; just letting you know I don't dislike Kobe, I am just saying as a fan of NBA.

I guess we all have diff opinions for the MVP. I think the MVP should go to the player whose team is in top 5. That's just my opinion.

If you put on 40 points a game and you are not in playoffs, will you consider him for the MVP in NBA??? NO Same thing happened in MLB last year, AROD had a great stats and his team did not make playoffs and MVP was given to Tejada.

Writing the final chapter to this L.A. story
By Sam Smith

The best player for the Los Angeles Lakers this season has been Kobe Bryant.

But if the Lakers need to win one game, you want the ball going to Shaquille O'Neal.

And therein lies just one of the many reasons the big talk about the three-time defending champions this season has not been whether they'll win a fourth title but whether they'd make the playoffs. Never has a champion with its top stars returning had so much difficulty the following season.

And with a pair of games against conference leader Dallas coming up and four of their final eight regular-season games on the road, it's hard to imagine the Lakers passing either Minnesota or Portland to get to the fourth or fifth spot in the West. Failing to do that means likely having to get by both the Kings and Spurs in the first two rounds of the playoffs. It's just one of the many reasons the run stops here.

Let us count them.
AX Posted on 03-Apr-03 11:14 AM

Rusty, would not that be great if Knicks can sneak into playoffs.

I think Bucks will be the #8. If they get to play Pistons, BUCKS will win the series. MVP in that series goes to The Glove.

Some Amazing Stats I love stats:)
--From www.nba.com

" The Lakers are 3-5 (.375) after games in which Kobe Bryant scores 45 or more points
" The Kings are 10-0 when Scot Pollard has at least one offensive rebound
" The Pistons are 7-1 (.875) when Ben Wallace scores exactly four points
" The Mavericks are 10-0 when Eduardo Najera records at least one steal and one block in the same game
" The Rockets are 20-4 (.833) when Yao Ming blocks three or more shots
" The Sonics are 13-8 (.619) since trading Gary Payton and Desmond Mason to the Bucks for Ray Allen. Allen's averages with Seattle would be career-highs in scoring (25.0), rebounds (6.3) and assists (6.0).
" The Magic are 13-7 (.650) since trading Mike Miller to the Grizzlies for Gordan Giricek and Drew Gooden; they were 26-29 (.473) before the trade
" The Kings are 21-5 (.808) with Bobby Jackson as the starting point guard; they're 33-16 (.673) with Mike Bibby as the starter

DWI Posted on 03-Apr-03 12:01 PM

Rusty, nice stats, some weird too. How about this

" Knicks are 33-42 when playing at their best.

Rusty, Knicks going to playoffs are as slim as they winning LeBron lottery. Earlier, when Wizards were above Bucks, I had said that Bucks will be the team making the playoffs, and it sure seems heading that way. They have an easier schedule. Knicks should have won those easy games, they really don't deserve to goto the playoffs. But since we have lost so many games that we deserved to win, it won't hurt if we goto the playoffs even if we don't deserve to. But the chance of that happening? 1%. No matter what, Rusty and I am not gonna give up, kaso? It ain't over till it's over.

k_loaded Posted on 03-Apr-03 12:03 PM

Aright....after all what matters is the championship ring more than mvp title. And i dont think it is as simple as khimu ji said, that is, winner of tonight game will be the champ. However, tonight game should in some extent reflect what we can expect from these team in the playoffs. By saying this, it will be little unfair for mavs who are playing without finley(correct me if i am wrong). But from lakers point of view, there should be no complaining after all they have got what they have been lacking for a while. A healthy full flowing shaq. So remainning two games against Mavs will set some close scenerio of what lakers are gonna do in the playoffs and their chances of 4 peat.

Throw it down, BIG MAN, throw it down!....cries walton to shaq.
We have a game tonight.
AX Posted on 03-Apr-03 12:47 PM

It would be fun to watch AMVS vs Lakers.

K_loaded, you trying to say LAKERS is Shaq team now???
k_loaded Posted on 03-Apr-03 02:15 PM

As if i ever disagreed!
Never!
oys_chill Posted on 03-Apr-03 05:14 PM

Nice going guys!

after seeing our AX bro thrashing LAKERS (without any apparent reason) time and again, I am compelled to explain my inclination for the lakers.....

Yes yes, ax bro....it is indeed quite frustrating to see the same team dominate year after year and I would feel the same if i was not attached to the Lakers

I remember those heartbreaking days, when I used to wake up five in the morning just to see lakers lose to jazz..those were very painful years, but like you say, loyal fans stick to the team. and it is not only Shaq or Kobe, or the hollywood hype that makes lakers the highlight of the NBA. I loved lakers long before Shaq n Kobe landed in the staples center. There was always this hunger, charisma, and relentless urge to win in Lakers that has got me to be their fans. I remember arguing about Michael Jordan with my friend 24/7 in highschool. Though I had cryptic admiration for the player, I was really frustrated to see them win it all, all the time. ......... and perhaps you are feeling the same vibes.

As for selfishness and dominance of kobe and shaq are concerned, well give credit to them. If kobe is such a selfish brat (though he assists more than 6 a game), and shaq is just another 300 pounders, why can't sacramento queens with all the stars, mavicks with all the money, spurs with all the MVPS, blazers with all the jailbreakers take on a lakers team which has one selfish player and one player who can't hit from the charity strike, BEAT THE LAKERS TIME AND AGAIN...NO NO! i am not talking bout some season games. over a stretch of years......why do all the MVPS falter during crunch times in the playoffs and can't score in the fourth quarter(mvps???), the queens succumb to the victors and BLAME THE FATE, and jailbreakers stir controversy? WHY???

well ax bro.........MAYBE JUST MAYBE, KObe and shaq are really GREAT PLAYERS, and maybe, just maybe, they have made LAKERS A GREAT TEAM! PROVE ME WRONG! not with words, but in the playoffs! n another lunch at jackson heights :)

Oys
AX Posted on 03-Apr-03 05:44 PM

oys bro, you forgot something there :)

NAH Lakers are not going to go to playoffs as no.5

I never said I don't like Kobe and Shaq. I said earlier, Shaq is all time best center beside Wilt and Russell, wot does that say to you??? NOONE CAN BLOCK SHAQ at this stage of his career, even it seems to be diminshing year by year.

" The Lakers are 3-5 (.375) after games in which Kobe Bryant scores 45 or more points "

can you trasnlate that to me???

kati choti bhanne, great players make others better. I have not seen that in while Kobe is on the floor.

Even saying that, YES it would be great to see SPURS crushing them in the 1st round :)
AX Posted on 03-Apr-03 05:53 PM

watching game Wizards vs. Hawks at this moment. wizards loosing by double digits.....

I think MJ playing this season hurt the Wizards for the long run. I am sure they would have been one of the worst team this season and will be in LeBron hunt. what do you guys say?

DWI Posted on 03-Apr-03 06:13 PM

You are absolutely right, Ax. And I think the Wiz's management realize that too. MJ gave up on teaching the team after the All star game and hinted he would focus more on his game than the team's future.

I oppose any kind of coaching inside the court or field. By constantly criticising and instructing a player while the game is going on, you actually take his natural ability away from him, you make him too cautious & deprive his natural game. Coaching & game plans should be done outside the court and during time-outs. Michael, constantly tells player what to do. That has badly hindered Kwame Brown's ability. He is looking for MJ's instruction (mostly on defensive end) than focusing on his ability.

Another apparent factor is, MJ (& Stackhouse) being the go-to guys, all other guys are just being role player. You can't afford that for a young team like them. His "over-coaching" is sending negative vibes to the team. They might not be a better team next season, but you can count on Wizards coming up bigtime a season after that.

Wizards trailing 77 -83, 4.30 remaining.
DWI Posted on 03-Apr-03 06:16 PM

This Blazer team is a mess. Mess in financial department, a chaotic team atmosphere and bad character examples. They recently had a fight within the team (Randolf & Patterson), just heard from the commentator. Their new Rookie was in arrested for illegal possession of cocaine and they have league's worst character players. I think they should trade Wells for Ron Artest next season, that will make an assembly of crappy players.
oys_chill Posted on 03-Apr-03 07:01 PM

Oh yes, AX BRO..that's why i said .........ANOTHER LUNCH IN JACKSON HEIGHTS :)

yah yah! it would be great to see spurs win..if YOUR MVP SCORES SOME BUCKETS Down THE STRETCH!! eheh

DWI,
haha! i honestly think, blazers are the most talented team in the NBA..........but no wonder, why they got the title of JAILBLAZERS :P

i might get to watch a game tonite :)........n explain this to me AX..when i watch lakers' games, they are 7-1 :)
khimu Posted on 03-Apr-03 07:40 PM

are you guys watching Mave vs lakers game
khimu Posted on 03-Apr-03 09:29 PM

what a day for lakers, i like the Robert Horrys play he did very good job this night.
i was right that lakers winner, kobes defence fishers 3 point shooter
and nawitcki and shaqs face to face.
Dallas coach 4th quter in the locker
what a disaster for mavericks
anyway ma dherai khushi chhu with lakers
don,t stop
k_loaded Posted on 03-Apr-03 10:41 PM

So there's little bonus of highlight what we can expect from the lakers on the playoffs. Yeah yeah they are with their second option finley. But we have been talking about the depth of talents in mavs from the begginning. Its feels great to see some laker's bench contribute. If you guys remember i told earlier this season that fisher and fox are the two players who can make difference in the entire league.
Some little contribution for the bench consistently, we are here to witness some real dynasty.
Rusty Posted on 04-Apr-03 08:35 AM

DWI,
Yes, there's a slight chance for the Knicks to cross the threshold of the play-offs. As I wished, the Wizards have been keep loosing the games. Sorry MJ... Now they are 1 game behind the Wizards and 3 and half behind the Bucks. But, yes, they got very easy teams to play with. The Magic and the Pacers could be the only teams now they might lose with. But, I still hope for the Knicks victory....

And, yes, the Blazers are all totally clutter, ehehe.. As Oys bhai said, Blazers should be they should name: JailBlazers....ehehe!!! Everybody in that team, except for Bonzi Well, is snagged by his own attitude problem.

What I think about the Lakers win last night??
-- The Lakers are physical team NO doubt. And the Mavs are just offensive team with good shooter, who can't shoot within painted perimenter. Well, I dont wanna waste my time, talkin about Mavs because I have already discussed about them in this forum.

I think that game was played with play-offs intensity. If the Mavs meet the Lakers in the first round, which I doubt, BAD-LUCK FOR THE MAVS. Let me repeat: They just need to be tougher mentally. When they get a cushion they sometimes lose their momentum. The key to winning is not a talent questions; it is a question of whether or not they believe in themselves enough to refuse to lose.

They need to play more physical, need more shots within the painted area. Shaq is the key for the Lakers, so find ways to stop him. Step on his big toe. LOL.... Let Kobe score 50 points, without Shaq, but still the Mavs would win. Unfortunately, MVP candidate is losing his momentum at the end of season. NOw, Shaq is coming back to his originalself.... I hope somebody will defeat the Lakers...either Spurs or the Kings...
Rusty Posted on 04-Apr-03 08:41 AM

Oys bhai,
Play-offs hune bela bhayo, aba BET khelne haina;)
AX Posted on 04-Apr-03 08:44 AM

Oys bro, make that 8-1 now hehehheheh

great game. Shaq was big as typical Lakers game. fiesty defense, bench played great. That's what I want to see more from Robert Horry, Rick Fox and Devon George. Kobe played all around game. He still took more shot than others and was 7-21.

K_loaded, coach Thompson and Danny Ainge have samething to say about Kobe. They did not even mention name while talking about MVP. YES all the other names were mention there what we talked before (AI, TD, KG, TMAC, Dirk)

I used to see loads of MAVs fans here before, where are they now? what do they have to say?. Dirk played great as always. not having Finely is not an excuse. they need to play some more defense.

Rusty Posted on 04-Apr-03 08:54 AM

AX,
Don Nelson's modus operandi is never emphasized to play defense. Ok, if they want to beat big teams like the Lakers, they need more points from paint. They can't depend upon bunch of 3-pointers and jump shots. Big guy like Noitzki should drive to the hoop, rather than shooting 3 pointers. Although Noiztki played very good last night (22 rbs, 25 pts), without Finely, it was not enough to beat the lakers because the Lakers. Raef and Bradly needs more rebounding. At least they need to grab defensive rebounds....

Yes, was Kobe looked like MVP candidate last night?? LOL
k_loaded Posted on 04-Apr-03 12:18 PM

Ax ji, how many times during lakers game have you seen people like coach Thompson and Danny Ainge or even bill walton talk about kobe not being mvp candidate Vs the time they have been talking about. Lots of time you see them talking about how he resembles to his highness and what prospect is he in the league. They are media people ...and their talks are about the moment. Had kobe had good first quater they would be talking more about him during the game. Dirk's name was not in list of the survey show earlier in this thread and that doesnt necessarily mean he is not the mvp candidate. So you know my point. But what are you trying to say with that comment is still confusing to me. Are you trying to tell us that kobe doesnt deserve what he is or media and people have been overstating his performance???
Well we called it a bad night for kobe last night. But still he finished with 19pts, 8rebs, 6ast and 3 steals. Many players in this league would be more than happy to end their career averging with this kind of note. Unfortunately Kobe gets blamed for this and rightly so. We are talking about kobe!
oys_chill Posted on 04-Apr-03 01:49 PM

K LOADED...........hear ya hear ya! that's what i am exactly talking bout which people fail to see!
khimu Posted on 04-Apr-03 07:50 PM

oh man what a great shoot by kobe 0.3 second
101 to 102
he did it guys

kobe knows where to put his next step

he is the one (not jet lee)

Rusty Posted on 05-Apr-03 09:31 AM

GUY, Basketball is one of my favorite games, I am mostly interested in analyzing player and statistics in basketball. For your curiosity, I also live near by Boston sahar:)

I am HARD CORE fan of New York Knicks. Aha-- beat the Jazz last night, but Bucks still creeping up.... WHile MJ and Wizards are down, the Knicks could sneak into the play-offs. But, Bucks won't loose their grip, I believe.

Again, another slap on your face from last night's game--- who think Kobe is the probable MVP. NO, he is NOT. Shaq is now playing with the play-offs intensity. If Shaq is not there, Kobe is NOTHING, regardless of his 40+ or 50+ points.... Anyways, good luck for 4th back-to-back champianship... But, the Spurs and TD will be their nightmare this season.

My vote for MVP goes to Tim Duncan:)

Rusty Posted on 05-Apr-03 09:35 AM

And my vote for sixth man award goes to Bobby Jackson
khimu Posted on 05-Apr-03 09:44 AM

last night games credit goes to kobe, huston, webber, and and milwakee ko i forgot his name ................... fill it here
Yeah ! you are right rusty jii duncan playing good but i like the tony parker ko defence
he never let shoot anybody front of, his movement
k_loaded Posted on 05-Apr-03 07:58 PM

Yeah... i think duncan's quietly gonna steal the mvp title.
But rusty ji, what have you got this time to critisize kobe's game last night? And have Lakers played without shaq suffieciently enough to decide kobe's pottential and his impact on his team? We dont think so.
The way he adjusts with his role so perfectly playing under shaq and yet so important to the team is mvp deserving character.
Rusty Posted on 05-Apr-03 08:26 PM

Low responses tonight!

Khimu,
Yes, Tony Parker is brilliant kid. The way he's been playing as point guard, he has very good future in NBA.

K_Loaded said: i think duncan's quietly gonna steal the mvp title.
-- No, Duncan deserves MVP award.

K_loaded said: rusty ji, what have you got this time to critisize kobe's game last night?
-- I don't care how good player he is. The way you guys overrating his performance to endow him MVP award, he's not done enough to deserve that award lately. His solo performance has turned down swiftly. A good MVP candidate usually carries out his team effectually till the end of season like Tim Duncan. Kobe, of course, has fairly big impact on his team as a second scorer in the team when the Lakers make *big* wins. When I say big wins, that means-- victory over the Spurs, Mavs, and Kings in this context. Shaq is the one who is more than 80% accountable for all those big wins:)

You said: the way he adjusts with his role so perfectly playing under shaq and yet so important to the team is mvp deserving character.
-- First of all, MVP candidate plays leadership role in the team. Contrary to that, Kobe is playing *under* Shaq's big vigor. So there's NO MVP character on Kobe:)

GUY Posted on 06-Apr-03 09:55 AM

I haven't been able to see the last few days..but I hope you guys had a great time......I am just happy that the Lakers beat the Grizzlies....You could always count on Kobe for last moment shots....!!!
Kobe hasn't been playing great for the last 6 games......I take in the truth!!! but he still thrives for the MVP title....
Duncan dude....ur phenomenal moves, yet your team leading role does it all......
Khai aru team haru ko chhai taal tyeti mileko jasto chhaina....
Anyways.....the playoffs closing by...I don't think I'll be able to see most of the games...tara pani....I confide that you guys will update me with the hot stuff....

So we got bball fans from Boston, NY......pretty cool!!! Aru kata baata ho??? .................Boston ko New Year Party pani ai raheko chha....... Bball lai ali para rakhera..... " Party" garnu paryo.... I hope the party goes well......and I hope the " floor dance" better be worth....
k_loaded Posted on 06-Apr-03 03:35 PM

Oh yes....ducan deserves the mvp title, so does KG and kobe and mcgrady. If your are just gonna keep the mvp title for one person from the very begginning there aint no excitement. Any one can win that award.
And there is no doubt kobe is the second option in the team. In fact, any player in the league who comes to LA will have to adjust to that role. And if you have a second option player whose performance is as good as mvp type, then the award doesnt necessarily have to go to the leader of the team. You can take magic johnson as for examples. He was second option in the team with kareem abdul-jabbar leading the team.
I know its very unlikely that kobe will win the mvp award this time with duncan and kg doing so well and their team is there to compliment. But all i wanted to say is, kobe is so close in the race and NO!!!, none of us are overrating his performance.
khimu Posted on 06-Apr-03 03:50 PM

yeah! you are right k-loaded kobe is close may be he will make it(what may be)
damn he will be the only one.
khimu Posted on 06-Apr-03 06:34 PM

SA (spurs) is just like weathere day by day they are looking hot weather pani hot hudai gairaheko chha hai MVP award ta Duncan po simotne jasto gariraheko chha
k_loaded Posted on 06-Apr-03 09:51 PM

well khimu.....i know its hard as a laker fan.......but it just seem that either duncan or garnett will get the mvp title. More favourably the first one as spurs is headed for the best record in the league.

Rusty Posted on 07-Apr-03 06:47 AM

Honestly, I am sick of judging if Kobe is MVP or not. Yesterday, I went to fleet center to see Michael Jordan because it was his last visit to fleet center. At the age of 40, MJ still got the same strength, still he refuses to lose. Fortunately, feeble Celtics lost the game. Tsk! tsk! The Celts are having really bad time at the end of season.
Rusty Posted on 07-Apr-03 07:13 AM

According to current stats, the Lakers are likely to play with San Antonio spurs in the first round. It's gonna be very exciting and maybe heart-breaking games. If they meet on the first round, the Lakers(6) will try to eliminate number 3 Spurs... Ooooh!!

--If they really meet:
First game: Lakers 1, Spurs 0 -- even though Spurs have home court advantage
Second game: Lakers 1, Spurs 1
Third game: Lakers1, Spurs 2
Fourth Game: Lakers 2, Spurs 2
Fifth Game: Lakers 3, Spurs 2

--- Sorry TD and Spurs. You just don't have enough strength to beat Shaq.
khimu Posted on 07-Apr-03 07:19 AM

that will be cool for lakers
AX Posted on 07-Apr-03 07:28 AM

Rusty,

I thought first round is 7 game series from this year. I am not so sure tho.

I think they will play 6 games, spurs 4-2.
DWI Posted on 07-Apr-03 07:34 AM

That's right AX, the first round is 7 game series. That's why Spurs will beat Lakers, Sorry Rusty, this time we differ.

As for Knicks, they have to win all the remaining games and Bucks have to loose all the remaining games, a bid almost impossible. Sad thing is their Point guard prospect, who is Nick Van Excel of Europe (25 points a game) and is supposedly as good as Tony Parker, won't be playing next year. Stupid Scott Layden only offered 1.5 million while the European team bid 2 millions. Stupid Nix.

I still vouch T MAC for MVP. But Spurs will win 4-2 against Lakers.
AX Posted on 07-Apr-03 07:51 AM

Did not get to see the games over the weekend.

How many game did SA played? Did TD played that good??? why eveybody (beside DWI) rooting for TD for MVP now??? What suddenly happened to Kobe and the KG??? KG has better nos. than TD???

Since beginning of the season, I thought TD will win the MVP again. The only players beside MJ since he won 2 in a row. Will someone explain to me why TD is going to win the MVP now?

DWI, TMAC is playing great this season. He would got the MVP if GHILL was still with the team. They would have more win and may be no 4-5 spot in playoffs. I think MVP should go to the player whose team has one of the best record in the league, that's just my opinion. That eliminates TMAC and KOBE and remains KG. It's close to call between them.
khimu Posted on 07-Apr-03 07:59 AM

i can,t say anybody else acept Tracy and kobe, MVP winner will be one of them
i love to see in kobe`s hand

oys_chill Posted on 07-Apr-03 10:19 AM

la la .....suckers...keep dreaming.....
as for lakers playing spurs....i think, lakers are more likely to play mavs.

and i also beg to differ from ax, and dwi :) ......we have seen spurs dominance over the years in the regular season.......last season........i am sure spurs were up by double digits in fourth quarter in almost every game. perhaps, bros..crunch time is little different than the whole game of basketball itself..we'll see about that. and the real good news for lakers is that>>> the cunning fox, the out of sorts fisher, and lazyyy horry are actually playing pretty well :)
Rusty Posted on 07-Apr-03 10:29 AM

Whooops!! Whooooops!! Whooooooops... Sorry guys, I didn't know that the first round of play-offs is best of 7. If it's best of 7, then Spurs have a slight chnace to win. But, they can't let Kobe hit too many open shots like they did in previous years. I think Derek Anderson guarded him last year, and this year Malik Rose most likely guard him.
Rusty Posted on 07-Apr-03 10:37 AM

I agree with AX for TMac NOT being MVP. I would love to see TMac, receiving MVP award, but it won't happen. He's a great scoring machine tho....

TD is 100% sure for MVP....
AX Posted on 07-Apr-03 11:47 AM

if Spurs plays Lakers, I would like to see following matchup:

PG: Tony Parker/Speedy Claxton - Derek Fisher Edge SA
SG: Steve Smith/Stephen Jackson/Bruce Bowen - Kobe Bryant Edge Lakers
SF: Bruce Bowen/Danny Ferry/Emanuel Ginobili - Rick Fox Edge SA
PF: Tim Duncan - Robert Horry/S. Walker - Edge SA
C: David Robinson/Malik Rose/Kevin Wills - Shaq Edge Lakers

Bench: Edge SA
Coach: Edge Lakers

If there is one team that has played like it should beat Lakers, it is no other than Spurs. This is an excellent team that is disciplined, consistent, and has looked extermely motivated as the season has progessed. TD has had another MVP season, but it is the rest of the cast whose performance has really put at this position. Tony Parker is not making too many of those rookie mistakes this season - and he's had some really good nights here and there. In the absence of the Admiral, Malik Rose stepped up big time - he is crutial to this team. And even the rookie, Ginobili has showed some goods. Not to forget that they still have the admiral playing his last season looking a lot healthier in the last few games. And their records show - they have only lost 4 times in the 30+games they have played in 2003. They have never lost more than 2 games in a row! They have better head-to-head records against both Kings and Mavs. And, against Lakers, they swept the series 4-0. Yes, we know that regular season results against Lakers doesn't mean much, and yes Lakers have shown time and again that they play at a different level in games that matter, they have to play mightly well to take this team down. Lakers have been a lot more inconsistent this season that they have been the last few, Shaq is not at his 100%, and supporting cast have had some remarkably horrible nights. It's going to be a good series, if it does take place, but I have to give Spurs the edge.

k_loaded Posted on 07-Apr-03 01:39 PM

It just seem to me that firsrt round match up between lakers and spurs hype is taking some real fire. But what it seems at this time of the season is that these two team are not going to meet in the first round. Coz spurs are in real good position to end up with the best record in the league. And if this is to happen, there is no more debate for mvp and no first round thriller.
And if SA were to finish seeding third than we have a story here. Laker vs spurs match up and KG or TD for mvp???
Lakers Vs Spurs match up
-The reason why spurs is so dangerous to the lakers is that they are far better than other team in defending shaq. Shaq averages significantly less against spurs than any other high ranking team in the league(I think its around 20-22ppg). Kobe used to be their go to man against spurs, but as we have seen this season Bruce bowen is doing exceptionally well guarding kobe and hence sweeping them in regular season series. But then again playoffs is a different call to the lakers.
KG or TD???
Ahh.....if t'wolves make it to 4th spot and spurs remain to 3rd, then MY vote's for KG although if i were to make my own team i would choose duncan over garnett. KG deserves what he has done for t'wolves in past half decade now.
kool_dude Posted on 07-Apr-03 05:11 PM

Hi all,

First of all, Spurs will have best record in the NBA at the end. Which means They will be seeded 1 and other hand, Lakers will ended up 6th or 7th place in the west so they will not meet in the first round with Sups. I am predicting, Kings or Mavs will play Lakers in the first round. If Lakers will play with Mavs they will have chance to advance second round else no way they can survieved in first round. Spurs and Kings will beat Lakers in playoff.

My vote for MVP goes to TD....

Later....

Peace

Rusty Posted on 08-Apr-03 07:00 AM

But, there's a possibility that Lakers might match with either Blazers or Kings on the first round.

Rusty Posted on 09-Apr-03 10:06 AM

The Lakers defeating the Mavs 25th consecutive time at staple center, allowing the Spurs to take over the lead for the West's best record and Midwest Division's top spot. That means, the Mavs are now matching with the Lakers on the first round??? True?
Wow....

PremPujari Posted on 09-Apr-03 10:30 AM

Not a big fan of basketball (too much happening for a slow-minded-person like me), but being a NewYorker let me seize this moment to congratulate the Syracuse Orangeman for winning the National Championship (NCAA Men's Basketball). Big applause for coach Jim Boeheim and the faboulous Carmelo Anthony for their victory over Kansas (81-78).

Go NY go!!!
Rusty Posted on 09-Apr-03 11:20 AM

Prem Pujari Jyu,
Yeah, congratulate the Syracuse Orangeman for winning the National Championship. Actually, Syracuse is also one of the places, where one NBA team was established during 40s and 50s. The team was Syracuse Nationals, who won the title in 1954-55 season. Also, there was another NBA team Rochester Royals, who won a title in 1950-51 season.

I don't live in NY, but I am great fan of Knickerbocker even though they won't make the play-offs :)

khimu Posted on 09-Apr-03 11:38 AM

right! knick not gonna make it.
by the chance wizards will take it
milwakee bucks
seems like sux
what bout wizards seems like MJ gonna make it play-off
what a huge record for spurs , spurs really need to pay back to lakers in play-off.

khimu Posted on 10-Apr-03 02:46 PM

yo! what happen to you all, no more comment for Basketball or what!
play-off suruhune belama sabai ko maan nai off bhayeko jato chha ni
DWI Posted on 10-Apr-03 05:04 PM

Khimu, Bucks do have a bad schedule compare to Wiz, but even though I wanna see MJ in the playoffs, Bucks are certain to snatch it away from the Wizs.

Rusty, I had no idea that you don't live in NY. You really are then a true Knicks fan.

What about Sixers guys? Last time I watched there game against the Kings, it looked like the Sixers don't know how to play as a team. There was a severe lack of communications on defensive moves and only Iverson or Sixer seem to understand the offense. Keith Van Horn, certainly has given them a big offensive boost, but they lack it on the defense because of Mutombo's departure.

Thus, only teams to watch out from the East are: Nets, Pistons, Hornets . The only reason I include Hornets, is coz Mashburn and Brown know how to win a game. I like the addition of Richard Hamilton to the Pistons, but because of lack of a good point guard they might suffer a little. But there defense can easily shut Nets and Hornets down. So either Nets or Pistons in the Eastern conference final.
Rusty Posted on 11-Apr-03 01:26 PM

DWI,
I learned to watch NBA with a New Yorker, who is a true Knickerbocker fan. Later, I also became a true Knick fan because of his big influence, despite the fact that I live in Celts territory. I think the Knicks are completely out of play-off picture.

Lakers won last night and moved to 5th spot?? That means they are matching to the Blazers!!! And, it's good news for all these teams: SPURS, KINGS, AND MAVS..... It's getting interesting. Any of these teams could be eliminated from the first round if they met the Lakers on the first round. And, it is also bad news for the TWolves because they are playing with tough teams, like the Mavs, in the first round, so they are likely to be elimainated in the first round, with the same critic: the overly paid and overly hype player, KG, can't take his team to second round of the play-offs.

Well, I don't know rest of the schedule, but western conference has been becoming very interesting.
khimu Posted on 11-Apr-03 04:13 PM

what do you think lakers can they make it in 4th place or no they looking hot anyway they will play with porland ( jailbreaker) .
kobe and shaq 30+ points wow that was great
kobe ko action ati nai maan paryo he is damn good yaar
what ma.....?
Rusty Posted on 15-Apr-03 08:40 AM

You guys ready to see the play-offs? Lakers Vs Blazers? I think the rival is no more interesting to watch, but it's good that lakers didn't match Mavs, Kings, or Spurs.....
khimu Posted on 15-Apr-03 09:15 AM

at last they will you know kings ya spurs sanga ta parchha -parchha
hum-ba-ba Posted on 15-Apr-03 09:21 AM

wow, the playoff matchup is changing every night -- it is infact the mavs that are matched up with lakers as of today. spurs have guaranteed themselves the conference, and home advantage throughout the playoffs. and they are matched up with suns. suns have had an up and down season, but at their best they can be a good team. kings are almost certain to take on jazz again - and i doubt jazz will pose any threat to them. lakers can end up being matched with either mavs or wolves - i hope it the mavs. i would really like to see wolves take it one step further this season, and they have a good chance if they play the blazers. mavs haven't been playing the best lately with one of their stars, finley on the bench. he's back, and they really need to get their shit together if they want to take on the champs.

Rusty Posted on 15-Apr-03 09:54 AM

I hope the most exciting team Mavs would NOT be eliminated by the lakers in the first round. I am very pressimistic about this. The Lakers still got two more games, so we still don't know. Good for the TWolves if they meet the Blazers. They can go to the second round, for the first time in franchise history.

DWI Posted on 15-Apr-03 04:15 PM

San Antonio winning the western conference should have a huge impact on the overall playoffs. I still will go with either Spurs or Kings for the title.
However I can't agree with you guys, Mavs eliminating Lakers. They have the easier part of the division, so Lakers should goto the Finals too. Only to be beaten by either Spurs or Kings.
Rusty sounds right, Twolves might actually have a winning playoff series (probably will be then ousted by Lakers).
Ax, picking bucks over Pistons, though seems a little far-fetched, actually makes sense. But I would still choose Pistons. Nets and Hornets in the East final.
East: Nets vs Hornets
West: Spurs vs Lakers
Final: Spurs over Nets.

Rusty, Knicks signed Chaney for 2 more years. He did a good job with this mediocre team this year, but I doubt if he is a championship coach. His motion offense failed miserably in the first few games whch can be blamed for us not making the playoffs, in one sense.
But the biggest problem with the Knicks organization is the owners (Dolans), even though everybody blames GM Scott Layden.
Rusty Posted on 16-Apr-03 06:18 AM

Finally, the Mavs are playing with the Lakers... Any Mav fans here??? YB?? I feel sorry for you guys!! I have great symphathy for the Mavs, but you guys can't bite the whole ecstasy of the play-offs. I am NOT the Lakers fan at all [I wish the Mavs would eliminate them. The Lakers will reach to the final at any cost.
Yes,
West--Spurs Vs Lakers

DWI, good that Knicks signed Chaney...

YB
Rusty Posted on 16-Apr-03 08:59 AM

YB,
It won't happen. Nets will go to the final, for sure.

DWI,
Knicks really need to change the management, and get good players for coming season. I am not very excited about Chaney's extension. Hope Mcdyess will be better next season. However i don't fully trust him. See Grant Hill, for an example. When will he come back with his full strength? Same thing might happen to Mcdyes. Also, they need to trade Sprewell, and get good guard who can average at least 20 points, take 7 or 8 rebounds per game, and make some steals. Sprewell was a good defensive player, tho...We need a reliable center as well. Well, basically, I wanna see the change in team.
AX Posted on 16-Apr-03 10:00 AM

I am with ya YB. I really do think SA will meet 76ers in final. Won't that be great if The admiral can retire with the NBA Championship???

AX Posted on 16-Apr-03 10:05 AM

Rusty and DWI, i agree with you both about the Knicks. Dolan should give up his authority about the Knicks and hire better GM than Scott Layden.

Swap the Sprewell with The Glove. Get CandyMan or Brand outta Clipps. I dunno wot the team will get trading players like Eisley, Ward, Harrington, Knights, Weatherspoon.

It sure would look great GP in PG, Allan Houston in SG, Shannon Anderson/Lee Nailon in SF, Antonio McDyess in PF, CandyMan or Elton Brand in Center position.

wot do you say guys???
khimu Posted on 16-Apr-03 10:07 AM

Rusty Posted on 16-Apr-03 12:48 PM

AX, I agree with you. Elton Brand would be cool. Is he free agent?? But, doesn't he play PF position? Combination of Mcdyess and Elton Brand would be awesome:))))))

I am ready to give up Kurt Thomos if Elton is coming to the Knicks. Otherwise, the Knicks must keep KT. Anyways, yes, the Knicks must change their top executives and must trade Sprewell...

Alicia, don't worry. Spurs will go to the final:)

All right guys.......i am back again to back up the lakers.
Just to keep things rolling, not to offend any one........can anyone convince(or say justify) me that spurs are better than the lakers THIS year when it comes to playoff time?
All i see is that they are just another last season kings with the best NBA record who is gonna stumble on the w.conference final(4-2 lakers). The stage is set! lakers vs E champion. Lakers 4-1 if the team in the east is philly or indiana. Else add 1 to # of sweep in the finals.
Spurs' my team too....but unfortunately they cannot go against the dynasty.
Spurs Vs Lakers would be good treat for us though.

shaq and kobe is always there.......and suddenly when it comes to playoff you start to hear names like horry, fisher, fox too often and may be george, walker and madsen this time along with these guys. Man, trust me. No one can beat the lakers but the lakers themselves this year and few more year to follow.
Hardcore lakers fan.
DWI Posted on 16-Apr-03 03:09 PM

Ax and Rusty, I totally agree about the trade. Spree is still young but sometimes it seems that age is almost catching up on him; and then some other days he emerges as a savior. I would trade Spree for the young bloods from the Clippers or even Bulls.

Khimu, I was going with SPURS over NETS . Although Sac Queens over Hornets is undeniable possiblity too.
I can guarantee Lakers and Sixers won't goto the final.
NepaliThito Posted on 16-Apr-03 03:51 PM

k_loaded

I totally agree with you about lakers being the Champ for the 4th straight times. After all champs are the CHAMPS. On top KOBE is going to kick spurs, mavs, kings badly, he is the superstar at this time. Man, He is the next MJ.

Everybody said, Lakers willnot go to PLAYOFFS, now Lakers will be No# 5 after tonight's game and for sure will be on the finals. No one from the west can compete LAKERS ( No offense to EAST fans), but the final will be 4-1 most likely.

I was hoping LAKERS will meet KINGS or SPURS or MAVS on the first round, but their luck favoured them. Atleast for a while they will have hope of being a CHAMP untill they meet LAKERS on Western Conference Finals.

Final note no offense to anybody, just my thought and LAKERS FAN.!!!!!

i don,t care other team hai but i wanna to see nets vs bucks
bucks are in seventh place wow great huh
k_loaded Posted on 16-Apr-03 07:50 PM

Yeah dwi.....that is true.
I am with you this time. I dont think 76ers will match up with lakers for the championship this time. Its more likely either paccers or pistons Vs the lakers in the finals.
......if you were talking about final match-up.

And guys....final call for mvp.
I am still going with Kevin Garnett.
hum-ba-ba Posted on 16-Apr-03 09:23 PM

Wolves have finished 4th in the West, which gives them home advantage through the first round, and if they play blazers an excellent chance to make it to the second round in the playoffs. KG has answered the exact challenge that was put upon him. The last few seasons Wolves made it to the playoffs but could never make it past the first round, primarily because they were playing better ranked opponents. This is exactly they were set out to do. KG has had a phenomenal season - leading all scoring, rebounding and assist for his team - what more can you ask from a player? He leads both the categories of double-doubles and triple doubles! He has shown how versatile a player he is, and put up good numbers day in day out. Wolves had an injury prone season, with Wally and Terrell on and of the bench, and KG took the load from them, carrying the team through it. KG is my man for MVP!
GUY Posted on 17-Apr-03 01:04 AM

I don't really get into other players and their statistics as long as Kobe and the Lakers stand outright.....It's one of the most questionable statement to nominate Kobe for the MVP when Shaq is around. Taking into account the credit Shaq gives to his team as the most dominant Center Forward Player in the NBA, Kobe is still there for the MVP.......It's an indecent statement to nominate any NBA superstar(Duncan, KG, McGrady, Wallace) as the MVP when a guy like Shaq turns out to be his team-mate. What chances does that leave for Kobe?? Kobe plays a major role even with players like Shaq as his team mate..So the hype that Kobe carries is for sure higher in proportion to other players...

I am not into details about the Trade between rising stars....I go for the superstars..." The Shining Stars" When the rising players get there...that's when I get into them!!!

The Spurs have been playing great....but I don't think they'll overcome the Lakers it the playoffs... Everyone here knows how the Lakers do it in the playoffs...

The rest later.....
AX Posted on 17-Apr-03 05:23 AM

DWI and Rusty, what about Sprewell/Eisley for Air Canada?

seems playoffs will be great specially in the east. 76ers over Pacers

It will be interesting to see how guard oriented team Suns will play with Twin Tower. Too bad for Lakers, they will be facing the Spurs in 2nd round.

I owe oys bro JH ma lunch, Lakers taking the 5th spot :-)

aroo predictions..playoffs suru bhe pachi.i haven't really watched many games this season!
Rusty Posted on 17-Apr-03 06:33 AM

The Play-offs picture has been changed within a night!!! Wolves finished 4th seed, and matched with the number 5 seed Lakers. Very bad for Wolves, despite their home court advantage. It would have been nicer if they had faced Blazers or other teams on the first round. Sometimes, I think NBA play-offs are pre-planned. Till yesterday, Mavs were matched up with the Lakers; Mavs beat the Spurs in the absence of Tim Duncan and avoided the Lakers on the first round. They must keep these 3 champianship teams [Kings, Mavs, and Spurs] alive untill the second round.... In a way, it's good that none of these teams will be eliminated from the first round. Sorry KG..

Obviously, teams who will go to second round West: Spurs, Queens, Mavs, and Lakers.
East: Magic, Nets, Pacers, and 76ers

I don't know why I think #8 Magic's gonna beat #1 Pistons. If two rookies play at their best and TMac becomes primary scoring machine, they can beat the Pistons.

Celtics, you're not playing as good as last year. I am not sure how they gonna match up in second round??

AX,
Vince Carter in the Knicks, you mean???

Oys bro; what else did you learn from Trikal???

AX Posted on 17-Apr-03 07:14 AM

Rusty, after Ernie Grunwald said they could not stand this any longer in last home game crowd. They did not make playoffs after making 4 yrs in a row (may be lot to do with vince's injury)

I feel like he is signaling to winningest coach (only person inducted to hall of fame as coach and player) and Vince Carter. I don't think Vince is a championship caliber player unless he is gather aorund with another great player like Houston ;)

It will be great to see his service in Knicks uniform .
Rusty Posted on 17-Apr-03 07:25 AM

AX, well said--I don't think Vince is a championship caliber player unless he is gather aorund with another great player like Houston...

I agree with you. Bring Elton Brand and Vince Carter to knicks. They will take a bliss:)
DWI Posted on 17-Apr-03 07:53 AM

Right you are K_Loaded. But I am also rooting for Lakers not going to the Finals.

Ax, I would take Vince Carter for any of the player in New York, if I were the GM. For one, he brings a huge fan following. As Rusty said, he does need another helper to make a team a championship team, and we do have such players. I'd love if we could bring Elton Brand and Vince to Knicks.

GUY, I still think Kobe Bryant is the best player in NBA. Wait till next year to see Lebron James shine. But I still stand for Tracy McGrady to win the mvp. I know his team is not in a high win columns (7th ain't bad, is it?), but I am almost positive, he will get it.
hum-ba-ba Posted on 17-Apr-03 09:23 AM

kya tragedy.. wolves will now face the lakers, and it's going to be mighty tough for them to get past friggin' lakers.
DWI Posted on 17-Apr-03 05:06 PM

Rusty and Ax, another bad news for Knicks. McDyess' knees need another surgery. Reminds of Grant Hill? But they say it might actually speed up the healing process. Hope nothing worse comes out of it.
A Knick fan (Spree fan) told me that Spree's jersey is the 8th best selling jersey in the league. And most of the Knicks are now ready to see Spree gone, So long then; I sure am ready. But don't get a bad trade in return, we rather have him here in that case. No trade, for the sake of making one.

**********************************************************************************

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME PLAYOFF!!!

and L.A. Lakers top 10 team

let see what happens with lakers
2 more day left
but i don,t understand why spurs is not in top 10 list
kinck is 2nd good for knicks fan
thepeacekeeper Posted on 19-Apr-03 11:20 AM

Frankly, I've never understood all the hype about Lebron James. He's been beating up on high school kids, for cryin' out loud. Yes, he may become a superstar years down the road, but I wouldn't be looking for him to make an impact any time soon. It took today's superstars like Kobe and Garnett at least a couple of years to start "shining". And look at the kids at Chicago - Chandler and Curry. We're still waiting for them to "shine".

Carmelo Anthony(Syracuse) and Darko Milicic(Hemofarm Vrsac) are players who've proven themselves in more competitive arenas and are less risky propositions. I wouldn't be surprised of either of them were picked ahead of Lebron. His only sure bet to be picked first is if the Cavaliers do win the lottery - they want their homeboy to draw the crowds in Ohio.
NepaliThito Posted on 19-Apr-03 03:43 PM

WOW

Its getting interesting on the PLAYOFFS, today nets kicked bucks ass. Pacers became loosers at the PLAYOFF game1 with celtics. Paul is doing great.

But waiting for tomorrows game when LAKERS will KICK WOLVES BLACK A.. in the game 1.

KOBE is the great and will be MVP.

any comments on this.

I know you all agree on this..

take care

khimu Posted on 19-Apr-03 05:50 PM

what a huge win phonex(suns) over SA spurs
oys_chill Posted on 19-Apr-03 06:11 PM

DWI,

That was a very shrewd comment you made "I can guarantee lakers will not win the playoffs"..well, of course you cannot guarantee anything in a game of basketball, but can you in your humbleness guarantee which team will win the championship??? haha of course not rite? no offence meant dwi bro.....jus in jest...(les say fan's dilemma)

nyways, i cannot guarantee lakers are gonna win again.....but they don't have to prove anything to anyone..they have proved enough three years in a row through storm and tornados.......and all i am asking is...kobe needs a little more respect than he's getting in this thread..JUS A LITTLE MORE! (esp. from AX) :P

oh yah.......so what happened to ax's mvp today??? did anyone guarantee SA will reach the second round? jus a thought!

Oys
kg4mvp Posted on 19-Apr-03 11:38 PM

Twolves all the way. This is the year for them.
Rusty Posted on 20-Apr-03 12:28 PM

WHat the hell is wrong with all top seeds. Boston's 3 pointers has become success in game #1, but I don't think they are reliable team. They just can't win by too many 3-pointers attempt..

All #1 are losing... Yesterday, spurs; today Detroits. Well, I am very much impressed with Orlando and TMac and those two rookies. I knew that Drew Gooden would come back with big numbers.

I don't think Suns will eliminate the suprs, but Detroits will be eliminated by Magic. Now, let's see KG and the TWolves, trying to defeat defending champ...
Rusty Posted on 20-Apr-03 01:35 PM

Shaq is doing whatever he wants.. Kobe with 29 points in the first half!! Gosh....

They will sweep hungry Wolves...

I am checking the scores on the internet. Me being DIE HARD LAKERS fan i didnot get to watch it. K garne, $$$ ta chahiyo after all this weekend i had to work.

k_loaded Posted on 20-Apr-03 06:07 PM

Are anyone still intrested in predicting?

All thoughts are welcomed.
DWI Posted on 20-Apr-03 07:21 PM

thepeacekeeper,
You should watch a full length game of Lebron James. I like Darko Milicic, he would be great for Knicks..alas. But Carmelo cannot make a big impact that soon. He certainly would be 3rd or 4th pick. Lebron is not hot because he will make the biggest impact next year, its because he is in High school and he still is growing (both in game and height). I had seen Kobe on his high school years, and he wasn't half as good as what Lebron is now and look how good he is now. There is no forecasting for Lebron and whichever team signs him for over 2 years period is gonna reap the biggest benefit.
Now, another reason he should be the no 1 pick? Fan following. Chicago sold the highest number of tickets in this year's High School all star, because of Lebron. Any GM in his right sense (except future GM, Jordan) wouldn't pass on Lebron as that brings more ticket sales. Very analogous to Yankees signing Godzila.
DWI Posted on 20-Apr-03 07:28 PM

Oys ....Chill bro. Easy now. The only reason was, that I had started liking Lakers in the beginning (& middle) of the season when they were loosing, and everybody were not even paying interest on them. But then they started winning again, Shaq gave a sh*t to US NBA team and their attitude became same as last year. So when I said I guarantee, I meant I deeply wanted that to happen. I don't hold the strings now, do I?

K_loaded, I am still going with Spurs (bad loss last night) or Kings for the championship and T'Mac for MVP (regular season).

Talk about saving the best for the last - that was some shooting exhibition by Iverson in the 4th quarter. Amazing game. What an incredible bunch of opening games. Best in recent memory.

Great games. Will AI will be able to play this level for all 7 games?

So much of a home court advantage that Wolves were crying for. Kobe had a great game, I still can not believe that he took that many shots.

What AI did was splendid, 55 points in a playoff game. I do respect the guy and he is arguably the best player considering his height (man that dude can dunk with 6'0'' posture). I am his fan too.
But I think a big credit should be given to T'mac too. AI scored 55 against Hornets, T'mac did it against Pistons, one of the best defensive team in NBA. Would that mean anything to MVP award?

No one is talking about MAVS, what a bias!!

I think they can make it up to second round.
AX Posted on 21-Apr-03 10:45 AM

shiva shiva, can we talk about MAVS next year? They got superb season this year but they are 1-2 year away from championship run. The core of the team (nowitzki and finely) are signed for long term.

I think they will sweep the Blazers and will loose to Kings in 2nd round.
Rusty Posted on 21-Apr-03 10:53 AM

Shiva,
We have discussed about the Mavs previously, see the whole thread.

I fully agree with AX that the Mavs are 2-3 years away from the title. Yes, they will be defeated by the Kings in the second round. But, they won't be swept this year.

Bravo, Iverson...

are you guys ready 2 watch spurs vs suns game
i think dunkan is still sleeping
go wake him up and tell him to beat the suns
tara kasari sakosh bichara no one can beat sun lai hai
Rusty Posted on 22-Apr-03 06:10 AM

Looks like we need another thread, just for the play-offs.

Khimu, he did it. The Spurs are played at their favorite tempo: all-out aggression. Down the stretch they made many big shots; now I am thinking how they gonna embark upon the Lakers!!

The Kings may not have CWebber for the next game cause of his sprained back. However, the Kings are the only team in NBA, who can survive without its super star players. Now I believe that the Kings are still the same good play-offs team as last year, even though Bibby's play-offs stat has sunk this year.
AX Posted on 22-Apr-03 06:23 AM

Rusty, I thought it was sacramento queens, when did they became KINGS now ;)
Rusty Posted on 22-Apr-03 06:34 AM

The way they played with the Jazz, they have become the Kings now....:p
GUY Posted on 22-Apr-03 06:39 AM

I couldn't see AI play..but he sure has made history with his 55 points in the playoffs..!!!
T-Mac is one helluva scoring machine......He does it.....I couldn't hold him up for the MVP though...
Duncan......his phenomenal plays....are always counted for...!!! Dude..I do wanna see better moves..!!
Kobe......What was it all about in the Second quarter?? He rocked it....His momentum, styles.......Damn!! ain't that something???.......But the third quarter sucked.....when he started missing 7 striaght field goals......
As Rusty said....Sacramento is one of those team...that could survive without the superstars....!!! Sacrmento does not rely on any specific players.....Everyone ( B. Jackson,Stoijkovic, Divac, Bibby, Christie) are great players..... It's hard to beat such teams......Luckily the Lakers could pass through them..!!! Sorry guys......It's the Lakers we are talking of.....They could do anything!!! :-)
YouNgbLOOdz Posted on 22-Apr-03 07:05 AM

SAn antonio WON.. my heart was beating.. when suns were up by 6-7 points at the last 6-7 mins.. but SA did work on their offense n defense both..

now tied.. to 1-1.. n m sure.. they will leave suns with 1 win of the series only..
