Apparently, Prince Gyanendra was safe since he was in Sauraha. I suppose he's the next heir.

Dear friends: It is sad news. Who knows who did that heinous crime? In these twelve years of democracy, king Birendra showed us a good path that we people are the one who should rule our country. Despite the call from opporunists, he didn't violate the right the constitution gave to him. He proved that he could have been a lot better leader than the leaders we chose ourselves to rule us. Frankly, I want people to rule now. We need some safelanding. Safelanding from this system we have had since hundred years. Now it is time that we rule our nation. We,our leaders and our military should be more mature now. We , Nepalese people, are what we say Nepal.

Guys, it is a very sad news indeed for everyone but the most the important thing now is how to stabalize the condition in Nepal. In time like this, there are no such things as Bahun, Cheetri, Newar, Congress, Communist and Maoist but all are Nepali. I have full respect for the King and the Royal family and may God rest their rest there souls in peace. I hate to say this but maybe time like this brings all the Nepali together regardless of our differences. I believe, this incident will bring all the Nepali together and the country will benefit on the long run.

Sad part of this is that the Royals have themselves given power to the Maoist. This is exactly what they wanted. I think such an event like this was entirely predictable.
