We have read the statement made by Dr Ashok Baskota in your paper last week in response to the case filed against him and B & B Hospital. According to him our father Narottam Adhikary had suffered from serious injuries during an accident in Nawalparasi. But we would like to remind him that our father had only three fractures in his left leg and gashes in the groin region, according to numerous tests and diagnosis made by a doctors’ team at B & B Hospital on our father’s arrival there. Either they lied to us then, or they are lying now. Dr Baskota admits that our father died because of septicemia, but we would like to ask him and the so-called esteemed doctors that despite our father being on a continuous dose of antibiotics, how he developed septicemia on the 6th day of his stay in the hospital? Dr Baskota very confidently states that they made our uncle sign a document which proves that our family was well aware of the risks involved in the surgery, but everyone has to sign that document—be it minor or major surgery. Moreover, our father lost his life not during the surgery but due to septicemia, which is a clear indication of the recklessness with which he was given treatment in a top class hospital.

We would like to ask Dr Baskota and other doctors: Can their conscience let them sleep at night because they also know that it is because of their sheer negligence that we have lost our father?

Can medicose in Nepal be sued for Malpractice? I 've been hearing a lot of cases that people died because of negligence in doctor's part. I know we just have one doctor per 20k population. NO doubt they are prized assests to our country. Certainly we cannot have rules such as in US where frivolous law suits are rampant. That may create fearful environment for the doctors. Doctors are not god. They can make honest mistakes. For that they should not be penalized for. But if they make blantant mistake and gross negligence, they should be held liable...
