Wondering what to get the little tykes for Christmas? Want to help them fit into the wider society and still maintain their ethnic pride? Feeling a need to prove to those Transformer-loving kiddies that, yes, the megamillion dollar US toy industry HAS heard of the little yam-between-two-boulders that mummy and daddy hold so dear?

Yes ... he's here, he's real, and he can be yours for only Something 99! (OK, I haven't researched quite ALL of this ad copy yet, but you get the idea.) GURKAHLI AYO!!!! The new GI Joe Action Figure! At fine toy stores today!

Or so I understand from my brother in NYC, who sent me this link. He said it says "NEPAL" on the box and is labeled "GURKHALI AYO!!!" Seriously ...

I saw the toy and have to admit bought one... not to give, but to keep as a freaky souvinior. And you never know, it might become a collector's item someday (think I have been watching too much Roadshow!)

But truely, it is atrocious. Anyhow though, the Ayo gorkhali toy says "11th Indian Army battalion" or somethign to the effect.T e guy's face is all contorted and almost demonic. Can't imagine who would want to give such a thing to their child to play with!! There is also another toy out this season which is also interesting and more fun...it'she GI Je mountineer in his organce climbing parka adn goggles duking it out with the YETI!! I wanted to get that too, but didn't for some reason.

Where the heck do you (and my bro) go looking for toys??? I must be hanging out at too many p.c. toy stores with educational toys made of sustainably harvested wood products.

(I just read my post and have to say I could barely make sense of what I wrote!!)

Anyhow, its at Toys R Us that I saw the toy. I hate the place. It makes me want to throw up... all those ailes and ailes of Barbie and Ken, Robots with extra special guns, Warships, Tanks, TV cartoon characters, those horribly cuties twins, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and more thing, thing and things!!! So where ARE the PC toy stores with educations toys in this town?

Why, in Northwest of course, dahling. Where every child is talented and gifted and headed to Harvard or else forget the trust fund, you atavistic throwback. Along with the chi-chi boutiques, where "sale" sweaters are $170, and where you can find charming little outfits to wear to those $1000-a-plate fundraisers. TV cartoon characters would be terribly declasse in this neighborhood.

But you can't escape Harry Potter anywhere.

The atavistic throwback is the failed non-talented and gifted spawn, of course--the Wormwood on the Family Tree--NOT Surya!!!
