Source: rediff.com King's son-in-law is still alive Sheela Bhatt in New Delhi The political situation in Nepal is slowly becoming clearer, but what exactly happened at the royal family dinner on the night of June 1 remains a mystery. According to sources in the Nepalese government, though Princess Shruti, daughter of King Birendra, was killed in the incident, her husband, Gorakh Shamsher Jung Bahadur Rana, who was also injured, has survived. "If he lives, he will be the only one who will be able to tell us what transpired on that tragic night," said a senior Nepalese journalist. Princess Shruti and Gorakh Shamsher Rana have two children aged 7 years and 3 months, respectively. The sources also said there was a strong possibility that after the shooting, when Crown Prince Dipendra exited the room, he was shot by the slain king's outraged aide-de-camp.

How can Gorakh and Sruthi have 7 yrs old child? Didn't they get married like 2-3 years back ??? Also, most news say shruti's age as 25. If she has a 7 yr old child, it means that she was 18 when she gave birth....we all know that's not true.

That would be 3 years old and 7 months, I think. There are lots of inaccurate and conflicting news reports around. I've heard Gorakh has now died. Does anyone else have new details?

Got it from a friend in KTM who has some good sources ... but of course, it could just be rumor. Anyway, this is grotesque, but he also said Prince Niranjan's head was blown off, and the speculation is he was trying to save the king. I don't know how reliable this all is, I'm just wondering if anyone can confirm it from their own sources ... This is all too horrible to believe.
