Junk Language
J.P.T (Je Paye Tyai!)

Conversation is an art and vocabulary the palette. The more colours and shades in it, the more expressive and vivid is the picture. Any language is constantly evolving: on one hand words are phased out while on the other, new ones are introduced. The trick of the conversation game is updating one’s lexis in keeping up with this evolution. It’s said that humour is worth more than wit most of the times and easiness does the trick as a substitute for knowledge. Gone are the days when the ‘thys’, ‘thous’, ‘whences’, ‘shalts’ and ‘art’s’ ruled. In their place, we’ve got the ‘Yos’ and ‘wazzups’ of today. Language is always changing and evolving to the needs of its users, which is good in many ways. If English hadn’t changed, then we might not have had modern words like modems, V.C.D’s, or even Jacuzzis for that matter. Imagine conversing in Shakespearean English in this present time? It would’ve come out something like ‘Hark! Is that thou I hear my son? Do wipe thy feet on the mat ere entering our humble abode.’

Language will always go through the transformation process. Shakespeare contributed to the English language by providing it with over 1600 words and somewhere in one corner of the world, there might just be a modern-day version of him, all set with his list of words to add on. That’s for time to tell. For now, why don’t we check out the language prevalent in our times? It’s neither proper English nor Nepali: Ne-english to be precise but it is a definite advantage to have it as a part of your vocabulary. Read and thy shall stay with the times.
