SITARA Posted on 29-Dec-02 09:17 AM

It's a winter's day, as I slowly brew my witch's brew....For I had a bad dream last night!

There is nothing like drinking Nepali Adhuwa Chiya, first thing in the morning......but the chiya has to be drunk at leisure....with all faculties intact, with all senses alert, all memories at hand, all nightmares striding the consciousness!

I feel desperate as I move barefoot into the kitchen... feel like a junky in the need of a fix...my fix: a slow brewed Nepali Adhuwa Chiya and its aroma permeating my agitated senses! It NEVER fails to work!

The art of making tea is NOT in the tea itself but the process of making it....

One and a half cup of water, I watch as I slowly pour into a kettle...exhale, as I hear the trickling sound... For me it is a slow deliberate process..... as I steady my hands to make a smoothe flow, I steady my nerves. The water comes to a slow boil as I put my thoughts into the water! I had a dream last night..... saw my mother, heard her call me home..... What seems to be the matter, I wonder as I watch the water.....

The temperature rises, as I watch the bubbles rise one by one... I see the fleeting glimpses of 2002 pass through my consciousness....some times of indiscipline, moments of carelessness..... those times I wanted to call home but chose not to.... moments when I could not shed a tear for fear of the dam breaking...and those moments tears would not stop....Like a slow, silent movie I watch my thoughts go through a myriad of emotions... those termed weaknesses, those termed bad luck and some simply termed "fated to happen!" REGRETS????? Never a moment of regret....why not? Life is a learning process...ya one of the tritest cliches I have used and guess what, it works! :)
And then, those times of truimphs in my teaching....a space in time encapsuled in a minuscle cell in my memory...a small joy revisited everytime I needed reassurance...!

Such thoughts pouredinto the boiling water, cooked by my ekoro mental energy as I reach for the slices of ginger. The aroma of the spices: ginger, a pinch of fennel seeds and cardemom waft around my personal space.....invading, suffusing and saturating my senses as the steam rises. Aroma therapy works.....!!!! As the two teaspoonfuls of Darjeeling tea leaves emerse into the steamy water, I watch in fascination the crumpled leaves unfurl... toss, turn and scald..... The scene, a picture of my mind...stormy, fiery and temptestuous. I take a sadistic pleasure in watching the chiya range seep out into the frothing water.... like my fears of the unknown thrashed out of my rational mind! The irrational nightmares coerced into submission of the logical. Mesmerized, I watch....a state of being...my version of zen meditation!

As I let the tea shimmer, I close my eyes and inhale the peace, the smell of the ginger, the comfort of Adhuwa Chiya which reminds me of my home; my mother,....I can almost hear her voice that calls " Chorri, chiya khana aaoo!"

Then I smile, as I pour in my warm sentiments: my friends who have smiled at my antics and chided at my fears; my exuberance at meeting those I care about; X number of books I have read this year; times I have felt amazing grace of being in the right place at the right time.....and life itself....as it seeps up my toes to the top of my head...knowing what it is, to be alive!

Having purged my year into my witch's brew.... I deliberately pour my concoction into a cup and inhale the ambrosic aroma before I relish the first sip of Adhuwa Chiya!

And, this is when I know kitchen sorcery works for me when I purge my nightmares/past and brew them into a dream, for the coming year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish all Sajhaites A Nuclear Hot cup of ADHUWA CHIYA and positive energies for 2003!!!

:)
Vision Posted on 29-Dec-02 10:19 AM

Dear Sitara Ji,
I've read many of your postings, and I must say you write extremly well and you are undoubtedly a sheer talent. And all due respect- what is this chiya and ginger thing? Not only I find this absolutely pointless...but just plain silly.

have I failed to see your point? Please enlighten me...
SITARA Posted on 29-Dec-02 10:27 AM

He! he! vision ji...

If you understand the concept of "Chicken Soup for the Soul"...I won't have to explain!

Thanks for your comments on my pointlessness.... Life is pointless if one cannot anchor it to the mundane details of everyday living!

Wish you well hajur! :)
PremPujari Posted on 29-Dec-02 10:37 AM

Sitara Jyu,

Are you planning to become some Screen Writer for the movie or some kind of Story Teller in the future? Because, After I get some time off from my DMO job, I am planning to direct a movie (hmmm) and I could visualize that whole scene in slow motion.... that scene is perfect in slow motion... with the perpetual flashback of hazur ko mummy calling you "chori chiya khaana aau"... the flashback should be in black&white and your kitchen should look something like champagne colored and straight out of future... and your mothers kitchen should look like old fashioned "Lord of the rings" kitchen kyaa, CONTRAST... hey we should make a Short MOVIE. Like 15 mins... the whole thing in SLOW MOTION... what say... (I am going to think about CAMERA ANGLE)...

You should produce the tablets, something like Alka Seltzer tablets, with Aduwa chiya EFFECT and positve energies!!! Nevertheless, My little bit left over positive energies to YOU and all the other sajha-puri.

Say CHEEESE!!
Vision Posted on 29-Dec-02 10:57 AM

Prem Ji...LOL

I guess Sitara Ji and Quentin Tarantino has something in common....stupid me!

Wish you all a Happy New Year!
vivid Posted on 29-Dec-02 11:12 AM

Sitara ji,
Do you really practice witchcraft?
Your spell drove me crazy. The tantalizing aroma of brewed aduwa chiya( darjeelinge!) escaping out of the screen dissolved the resistance inside me- not to drink tea after 5 pm as the price I have to pay is enormous, sleepless night.
To trigger more, the weather outside is challenging, wet and cold!
So, here I am sipping tea with cinnamom.

Tonight,
With every tossing,
I will be cursing!!!

:)
P/S: Have to generate negative energies to balance the positive ones.
SITARA Posted on 29-Dec-02 01:19 PM

Prem Pujari ji

Yours is the talent I talk about... having the knack for romanticizing the pointless!! hehe

Sure go ahead....make it a film :)

Vision ji

Stupid you???? Nah!!!!!!! better yet, let us find similarities between you, Tarantino and Sitara.... homo sapien sapiens!!! :P
SITARA Posted on 29-Dec-02 01:25 PM

Vivid ji

What use is mind magic if it cannot magically convert the concrete into abstract????????

Lau na... Sure, I will do the snow dance and cause a storm (so I don't have to work on Jan 2!!) and you can drink your tea to your heart's content and write poetry!

Ye hajur, what say you?

Tonight!
With every cursing,
you will be dreaming of my witch's brew!

Yep, definitely kitchen sorcery and the pet pujari!
:)
vivid Posted on 29-Dec-02 02:51 PM

Sitara ji,

Have you heard about witches dancing all night carrying pipal trees? Tomorrow morning I will be be scrutinizing my views far and wide to see if there are any pipal trees with an unproper dip, just in case you don't fininsh your snow dance in time to plant it properly.:))))).
Is it the secret(aduwa chiya?) that poetry comes so graciously to your highness, my dear?

With a magic broom at hand,
Snap, snap!
Wish I'd be gone,
To join you dance,
Cause a blizzard,
For you a Holiday,
Me just content,
With your witch's brew!

bharkhar pet puja bho hajur, kyarnu pachaunai paryo, :P
krishna Posted on 29-Dec-02 05:37 PM

dirk Posted on 29-Dec-02 09:13 PM

Quite an ode to the fine art of brewing a purr-fect cuppa tea. Sitara, you should try some Oolong, Jasmine and Green tea as well.

Tea tastes good, it quenches the thirst, indeed it is so beloved that it's the most popular beverage on earth. It is also a positively healthy drink: it aids in the digestion of food. Tea lowers hypertension and calms the nerves--it calms the stomach after drinking alcohol and freshens the breathe. It's even good for your teeth!

Tea is also loved for its psychological and spiritual benefits--as it relaxes you and calms the nerves, it brings out the true essence of wisdom and hospitality--it brings out the virtues so honored in the Eastern tradition.

Here's a tribute to the "Witchy Woman" of Sajha. This is from the Old Blue Eyes himself.

Witchcraft
Frank Sinatra

Those fingers in my hair
That sly come-hither stare
That strips my conscience bare
It's witchcraft

And I've got no defense for it
The heat is too intense for it
What good would common sense for it do?

'cause it's witchcraft, wicked witchcraft
And although I know it's strictly taboo
When you arouse the need in me
My heart says "Yes, indeed" in me
"Proceed with what you're leadin' me to"

It's such an ancient pitch
But one I wouldn't switch
'cause there's no nicer witch than you

'cause it's witchcraft, that crazy witchcraft
And although I know it's strictly taboo
When you arouse the need in me
My heart says "Yes, indeed" in me
"Proceed with what you're leadin' me to"

It's such an ancient pitch
But one I'd never switch
'cause there's no nicer witch than you
surya Posted on 29-Dec-02 11:00 PM

Sitara:
Hey, even a hard core coffee drinker like myself felt that some Aduwa chia would be nice right about now!! Sounds totally relaxing and yet intoxicating. Ke ho, what's brewing," for it has to be something interesting that deserves such a strong brew? :)
Ramro lagyo malai ta. Lau, here is that Eagles song.

"Witchy Woman"

Raven hair and ruby lips
sparks fly from her finger tips
Echoed voices in the night
she's a restless spirit on an endless flight
wooo hooo witchy woman, see how
high she flies
woo hoo witchy woman she got
the moon in her eye
She held me spellbound in the night
dancing shadows and firelight
crazy laughter in another
room and she drove herself to madness
with a silver spoon
woo hoo witchy woman see how high she flies
woo hoo witchy woman she got the moon in her eye
Well I know you want a lover,
let me tell your brother, she's been sleeping
in the Devil's bed.
And there's some rumors going round
someone's underground
she can rock you in the nighttime
'til your skin turns red
woo hoo witchy woman
see how high she flies
woo hoo witchy woman
she got the moon in her eye

A new year's toast, whatever your brew, folks: Here is to magic, miracles and dreams!!

And now, ZZZZ........

Hope you decoded it correctly.

SITARA Posted on 30-Dec-02 08:02 AM

Vivid ji,

Which witch is which?
one with the broom?
or one with the pen?
So pray tell,
which witch is which,
you can't break her spell????

I have been drinking adhuwa chiya for the longest time I know....esp, those SLC days, when I overdosed on the brew! :)

As for writing poetry...t'is a whim of the mind and mood of the witch! :).

I have never danced,
around the peepal tree;
though I confess,
I've traipsed around Sajha Free!!
SITARA Posted on 30-Dec-02 08:07 AM

Krishna ji, NK and Jayahos ji

Wish you all a Wonderful New year with your loved ones!

Dirk ji...

You nailed my musings right on the head! Tea it is for me too!

And the lyrics of the songs...made my day this early morning, thank you!

Surya...

I like coffee too but it reminds me of my graduate exam, jagaram days. Thank you for the lyrics of "Witchy Woman". My favourite song...I will never get over this one! Infact I was "singing" it in Sajha chat too ! :)

Thank you!

Sitaraaaa... you dont like milk and sugar in ur witch's brew ho?? aduwa chiya brewed with all those spices and thoughts... I still would have liked some milk and sugar!! :D...
SITARA Posted on 30-Dec-02 07:32 PM

Watever,

Thanks for your comments....

Yes, I love milk, a dash of cinnamon and sugar with my brew but they are for mellower moments when the mind is not in a turmoil! However, when I need to exorcize nightmares and bad colds, I drink the brew...straight black, hot and potent! :) Nidra Devi pani bhagchey, t'is then I haunt the threads of sajha with my pointless postings!

I wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

About u mentioning script writing and film directing, if u're serious, we can make Nepali Damon-Afleck Tandem. I am also considering movie direction and script writing. May be after few years I might join NYU for that; serious

Sitara,

Why don' t you call me for a cup of such brewed tea?? I want to know how much compassion and flavor it actually contains. Your illustrations of a tead insights has already made me unbearably tea-ish and I can wait no more.

Vision Posted on 02-Jan-03 01:59 PM

But but Sitara Ji,

what about "two is company, three is crowd" factor?

:)))
SITARA Posted on 02-Jan-03 02:15 PM

Vision ji

Three's a crowd?
Hora???
The More the Merrier!!!
Hoina ra? :)
PremPujari Posted on 02-Jan-03 02:39 PM

Okay, how about this?
Sitarajyu and Poo dai make Tea.
Poo dai also makes chwela (dai ko katti tyalent ho... aru ke ke aaucha bhanihaalnu paryo -- Poo bhauju lai ke ke aaucha kunni? tyo ni patto laaunu paryo... Tama aalu banauna aai halcha hola, chicken, khashi pakaai haalnu huncha hola)
Najar jyu is waitress. (we need 2 more waitresses... How about Girl_interrupted, and onegirl123? Those are the two names on the top of my head)... IsoFreak gonna write the Review for NYtimes, and JH gadget...)

You still need me in a cash-register.

Poo dai, Taking care of cash-register is not as same as reading tyaushi ko meter and collecting money ke. There are so many other things to be taken care of. Like bribing health department, buying stuffs to prepare tea, pay-checks>>> It's not a JOKE.

By the way, Ask oys if he is interested on taking a job of Washie-dishie. I am sure he is the perfect candidate to handle that. We can also have a regualar musical band of "Suna, Soliel, Krishna and Simple girl" in our chiya-store. Hindi geet ma uhaharu POKHTA. We can also ask Punam Ghimire Jyu for occasional Dancing-wanching... "chamma chamma ye chamma chamma" ma.

I am going to buy some decent clothes. One cannot wear jeans in front of the cash register ni, Tie sai laaunu paryo -- dai, dai le bihe garda Tie sie daaijo aa chaina??? Not those purple and pink ties, aru chalcha... cha bhane borrow gari haalum... ehehe...

We can name the chiya shop, "JHjava Tea Place"... where Bharatiya janata parties hang out... Its gonna be superhit for sure... Tyo JH ma Bangali ko 24 hours khulne pashaal sangai euta cassette pashal is "going out of Business". Tyahi kholne ki kyaa ho.. Thau pani THULO cha... 34 and 35 street duitai chuncha!!!

Think about it.. I am trying to learn to be "gambhir" -- I have to work in the FRONT, deal with the customers... ahem!!!

ps: Poo dai what is your NewYear Resolution anyway?? Sajha ma "gambhir" guff garne ta hoina??? Curious!!!

"When shall we three meet again?
In thunder, lightning, or in rain?
When the hurly-burly's done,
When the battle's lost and won."

The Witches, in Macbeth i. 1.

Sitara, did u meet up with your fellow witches over the New Year's Eve to concoct some strange brew to cast a spell on all the unsuspecting Sajhaites with your musings and ruminations? ....."You gotta change evil ways...."
SITARA Posted on 02-Jan-03 10:33 PM

Dirk ji

As always, amazing bits and pieces of interesting collectibles !!! :)

Well, I think I was too witched out (dancing to "luny tunes" ) at a friend's place before I met the sajhaites past the witching hour! :)

kalanidhi Posted on 02-Jan-03 11:36 PM

Najarji, Robert Frostji and Sitaraji,

Could you comment on these lines ? Thanks.

on the loneliest of evenings
may *you* read this, all alone
when the emptiest of emptiness
is dearly called your own ___ ___

Kalanidhi, UCB
SITARA Posted on 03-Jan-03 06:12 AM

Kalanidhi ji

Is your isolation,
of your own choosing?
lonliness, external
is sorely imposing!

You can be,
lonely in a crowd;
crowded,
when alone;
what does it bring you?
peace? tragedy forlorn?????

Emptiest of emptiness,
only in your mind;
it's yours if you own it,
leaving chaos behind!!!!

Ramro cha hajur ko poem Kalanidhi ji!

Happy New Year!
SITARA Posted on 03-Jan-03 06:15 AM

Haven't you been swept, floored and shot yet???????? :P

whine and chij Posted on 03-Jan-03 11:35 AM

i get misty-eyed just remembering how i used to watch my nokarni brew my chiya. watching her sure, purposeful movements as she prepared the brew, i could almost attain the zen mind she must've had to achieve to transcend the misery of doing my dirty work, day in, day out. now, i got a kafi-sahib machine, and bahini never looked so forlorn. ahhhh! muna, muna, munaaaaa chiyaaa! ;)

Kalanidhi jyu, I had been trying to figure out why some people put Harvard, UCB, etc at the end of their postings. Is that supposed to provide more vitamins (taagat) for the postings?

No offense hai pheri.
Robert Frost Posted on 04-Jan-03 03:05 AM

Poonte,

Nyaya chahiye Gorkha jau, keti chahiye DC jau. Kaso?? ;)

Sitara, my friend,

UCB = Unnecessarily Complicated Bullshit

No hard feeling ni feri Kalanidhi jyu, I am also JPT product....
That why I always put JPT in my je paaye tyahi POEMS.

JPT= je paayo tyahi

Jaha gayera, jaslai pani guff hanne? ;)
Vision Posted on 04-Jan-03 05:23 PM

Frost, Sitara

No need to worry on Vision's vision. Vision is sidelined with bad vision indifinitely.

Runway is clear...permission to take off
kalanidhi Posted on 10-Jan-03 11:28 PM

Sitaraji,

"A man loses his sense of direction after four drinks;
A woman loses hers after four kisses.........."

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking
that never takes a chance

and the soul afraid of dying
that never learns to live

Kalanidhi, UCB
SITARA Posted on 11-Jan-03 07:33 AM

Kalanidhi ji

Gullible is she who loses her senses after 4 kisses!

Logic refuses to lose control,
Reason refuses to believe;
Past refuses to let be,
Future's made to disbelieve !
Present's the place to be!

SITARA Posted on 11-Jan-03 07:34 AM

Now's the time for me to drink Adhuwa chiya!

Have a good day! :)
