I hope Boston_Dude does not mind if I continue from 2003 onwards (someone can fill in between 1972 and 2002): 2003 March: A series of talks held between the govt and the Maoists; all in vain. The same year, the UML ousts MaKuNe from the post of secretary-general. K P Oli becomes the President of the party. 2003 April: The Maoists form an alliance with the UML (which will, by then, be renamed to CPN) and other communist groups in Nepal to oust the monarchy. NCs join in. Meanwhile, the Supreme court decides to put NC leaders Khadka, Joshi, Wagle, and Gupta 15 years behind bars. Girija Prasad Koirala arrested by CIAA. 2003 December: Girija Prasad Koirala dies. Taranath Ranabhat becomes the party president. The same month, a massive march starts in Kathmandu against the monarchy. 2004 January: "Prachanda found dead" as per Paschim's prediction. The same month, Mr. "lonely" marries as per my prediction :) 2004 February: A compromise is reached between Gyanendra and the alliance to declare Nepal a republic; Gyanendra becomes a President. A condition is set for the election for the next President to be held in 2010. In the same year, a constituent assembly is formed. 2004 March: Army introduces quota system for all castes, religions and geographic groups. Paramendra Kumar Bhagat's "Vision for Nepal" comes into effect. Federal governance is introduced. 2004 March to 2005 April: Elections are held. CPN, presently called the UML, wins a majority. Modnath becomes the education minister. A massive change is introduced in the education system. The so-called National Anthem is changed. 2005 May: The CPN government under the premiership of K P Oli introduces programs for the rahabilation of victims of the Maoist war. State takes over all the schools in the country. Politics is banned until the tenth grade. A consensus is reached to reduce the number of national holidays to a maximum of 20 (excluding Saturdays). 2005 June: M.P. graduates from college and goes to Arghakhanchi; Starts teaching in a local school. 2006 April: M.P. completes his book titled "Behind the Veils: Nepali Politics and the Unheard Mass". Saja prakashan publishes it. 2006 September: Narayanhity palace is turned into a national library and research center, named "Pragatisil Pustakaalaya tathaa Anusandhan Kendra". M.P. applies for the post of chief librarian but fails to win. M.P. goes back to Arghakhanchi and opens a chiyaa pasal in Mareng VDC waiting for the 2010 local and Presidential elections.
