Sajhabasis,
Please find attached a significant news development in the Himalayan kingdom. If the government really pursues the multibillion Dhamija and Lauda scandals, it could have far reaching consequences for Nepali politics. The news may also partly explain Girija Babu's Quixiotic outbursts...he seemed to have anticipated this move. So, marta kya nahi karta, as they say in Beneras. Let us see, how the chips fall now on.

In Peace!

Tourism Ministry re-opens files of two major air scams

The Ministry of Tourism announced Wednesday that it had initiated steps to resume the probe into the Dhamija and Lauda Air scams that brought losses worth billions of rupees to the Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation.

The Dhamija Air scam was carried out at the time when Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala was the Prime Minister. Similarly the Lauda Air scam took place at the time when Tarrani Dutta Chataut was the Tourim Minister.

According to the Tourism Ministry, the files on the two air scams have been re-opened and a comprehensive probe would be carried out. The government has formed a six member study team to probe the irregularities that dogged the Corporation, plug the leakages and make the Corporation more efficient and self sustainable. nepalnews.com am Jan 9

A good step, hope they get to the bottom of it all......if found to have done wrong even GP must pay.....although I wonder why the irregularities carried out during the panchayat era (by D. Bohora and friends) isnt going to be investigated. If memory serves me right RNAC started being used as a cash cow by the Panches.....WILL THE PANCHES BE EVER TARGETTED, JUST WONDERING.......

With KANTIPUR taking a U-turn after SIROHIYA episode, I doubt a full-committed support from the press in the fight against corruption. Now, SP Upadhyaya himself is facing corruption charge and the case may get heat with Kantipur taking the lead against him. Unfortunately, GP will be spared!!

Kantipur, under Yubaraj Ghimire, has become a disgraceful newspaper day by day.
